Is this a breakthrough? Finnish solid-state battery close to series production.

The combination of an ultra-high-performance solid electrolyte battery with an ultralight EV platform for electric vehicles (an EV platform is a structure that forms the frame of electric cars, integrating the battery, drivetrain and chassis to optimise space, cost and performance) could become one of the most important steps in the development of electromobility in recent years. Significantly, that technology has originated in Europe.

Finnish company Donut Lab, which is now wholly owned by Verge Motorcycles, announced at CES 2026 in Las Vegas that its all-solid-state battery, named the 'Donut Battery', is ready for series applications. The manufacturer announces that these batteries will go into all 2026 Verge motorbikes as early as the first quarter of 2026, while also being offered to other vehicle manufacturers. At the same time, Donut Lab is collaborating with WATT Electric Vehicles on the development of an extremely lightweight electric platform with motors located in the wheels.
According to the company, the new solid electrolyte battery achieves an energy density of 400 Wh/kg and has been designed from the outset with direct implementation into mass production in mind. Donut Lab describes it as the first fully solid electrolyte battery that is ready to power serial vehicles.
The manufacturer claims to be able to fully charge the battery in about five minutes, without stopping the process at 80 per cent capacity. The life of the cells is claimed to be up to 100,000 cycles, with very little loss of capacity during use. It is also emphasised that the battery can be regularly discharged to zero without any negative impact on its performance.
According to Donut Lab, the use of a solid electrolyte has eliminated liquid, flammable components and reduced the risk of dendrites and uncontrolled thermal runaway. The company argues that it has removed a major source of fires known to occur with classic lithium-ion batteries, which is expected to significantly improve safety.
The battery is also expected to retain its properties under very harsh thermal conditions. The manufacturer's information shows that it retains more than 99 per cent of its capacity at -30°C and also continues to maintain a similar level of efficiency when heated to above 100°C. Donut Lab does not disclose details of the chemical composition of the cells. The company only states that it uses materials that are widely available, relatively cheap and geopolitically safe, without using rare or strategically sensitive raw materials. At the same time, the claimed production cost of the cells is expected to be lower than traditional lithium-ion batteries.

Optical-copper RTV/SAT installation using professional line of Signal PRO devices for 256 flats.

The Signal PRO system can be used in large buildings where the distance between staircases is more than several tens of meters and the RTV/SAT signal is to be transmitted in a single fiber. Below is a schematic diagram of a hybrid multiswitch installation for 256 outlets.
Installation assumptions:
  • distribution of satellite TV signals (2 satellite positions)
  • distribution of terrestrial TV and FM radio signals
  • whole signal package in 1 fibre optic line
  • division of signal into 4 optical paths (4 staircases)
The TR-901 R69956 SIGNAL PRO optical transmitter enables distribution of radio/DVB-T2 and SAT signals from two satellite positions via a single optical fibre. The built-in LEDs on the housing of the transmitter allow quick verification of the correctness of the connections and ongoing diagnostics of the network. Transmission of signals from two satellite positions is carried out using WDM technology. The 1x4 SC/APC optical splitter SIGNAL PRO A98864 is used to split the optical signal into four independent paths. The signal is then sent to the REC-109 R69958 optical receiver, which converts the signal from fibre to the copper medium. The receiver splits the full bandwidth into eight polarisation/band pairs (VL, HL, VH, HH) - analogous to the operation of two classical QUATRO-type converters - and into a radio/DVB-T2 signal. The optical receivers are followed by standard multiswitch installation based on Signal PRO multiswitches. In the case of a larger number of multiswitches or long copper lines, it is necessary to use the R69900 bus amplifier included in the diagram.

RACK cabinets.

RACK cabinets are a fundamental element of the infrastructure for teletechnical installations such as computer networks, telecommunications systems, monitoring or building automation. Their main advantage is standardisation - they enable the installation of devices with uniform dimensions, which greatly facilitates the design, expansion and servicing of systems.
The use of RACK cabinets allows active and passive devices such as switches, servers, patch panels or emergency power supplies to be arranged in an orderly manner. This improves the legibility of the installation and makes the identification and replacement of individual components quicker and less error-prone.
Another important advantage of RACK cabinets is the protection of equipment. The closed design protects devices from mechanical damage, dust and unauthorised access. In addition, the possibility of installing ventilation and cooling systems promotes the maintenance of proper operating conditions for equipment, which translates into their reliability and longer service life.
RACK cabinets also enable effective cable management. The use of cable guides, organisers and masking panels allows cables to be routed aesthetically and functionally, reducing the risk of interference and facilitating future installation modifications.

Thanks to their modular design, RACK cabinets are a flexible solution that can be easily adapted to changing user needs. The ability to expand with additional devices and accessories makes them a scalable and economical solution for long-term operation. More information about RACK cabinets here.

Fiber optic cable termination in the apartment splice box.

When a fiber optic cable is brought to the apartment splice box its termination is often anything but professional. This is mainly due to three factors: the use of substitute boxes, installers unfamiliar with that type of termination and, finally, savings.
As a professional solution to this problem, DIPOL offers FTTH DIN L5315 fibre optic boxes. They allow the termination of a fibre optic cable with a diameter of up to 12 mm (typical subscriber cables have a diameter of approx. 3 mm) with a maximum of 4 fibres. This will usually be a dual-fibre cable terminated with L34252 pigtails plugged into 2 L42122 adapters. The box is convenient to install and cheap.

The special feature of the L5315 mini FTTH DIN splice box is the integrated handle for mounting on a TS35 / DIN rail. This makes it suitable for use in boxes and cabinets which provide for this mounting method. When used in boxes with a typical mounting plate, the box is an excellent alternative to the splice trays often used in these situations.
