The device developed will be easy to install with no need for permanent fixing. The thermoelectric generator will use the Seebeck effect – a thermoelectric phenomenon which consists in the formation of electromotive force in a circuit containing two metals or semiconductors when their junctions are in environments with different temperatures. The greater this difference, the stronger the electromotive force becomes leading to an increase in the capability of such a generator. The team of researchers has developed a new manufacturing process to produce flexible devices that offer higher power output and efficiency.
A vehicle's exhaust pipe was used in the study. The generator exhibited 150% higher energy density than other such solutions on the market. A smaller version of the 23 cm2 generator was also created and it performed 115% better, achieving an output power level of 56.6 W. The university does not reveal whether it has started talks with commercial entities that could use the newly developed generator.
Community multiswitch system – ready-to-use solution for DVB-T2 standard.
The trunk concept of building multiswitch systems in multi-story buildings is a modern way of distributing TV signals. The cabling work consists in laying and distributing a 9-cable trunk line between individual staircases of the building, and then distributing the signals from the trunk line on each floor with the use of splitters that connect the multiswitches. It allows to build SMATV systems with a wide range of possible extensions.In one of Krakow's housing estates the multiswitch system has been installed based on TERRA equipment.
An antenna mast has been mounted on the flat roof of the building, on which a 120 cm satellite dish is suspended, ensuring reception of signals from two satellite positions: Hotbird 13°E and Astra 19.2°E. For terrestrial DVB-T2 TV in the VHF and UHF bands respectively, antennas used were: DIPOL 4/5-12 A0140 (vertical polarization), DIPOL 44/21-60 Tri Digit A2670 (horizontal polarization), while for FM radio the antenna DIPOL 1RUZ PM B A0221. A set of TERRA amplifiers: at440 R82511 and ma400 R82520 has been used to equalize and increase the level of the DVB-T2 signal in the system for all DVB-T2 multiplexes. The SA-91L R70901 amplifier with eight satellite inputs has been used to amplify and equalize IF signals for 8 polarization-band pairs. The signals were then distributed via SD-904 R70523 splitters to MV-916L R70866 multiswitches, each powered by the SA-91L R70901 bus amplifier. The cast class-A enclosures of the TERRA devices guarantee a high level of shielding.
Implementation of ONVIF protocol in Hikvision IP cameras.
Hikvision IP cameras can operate with Hikvision DVRs or any other DVR using ONVIF protocol (Open Network Video Interface) if Hikvision protocol is not implemented in it. By default, this protocol is disabled in the IP cameras currently on sale. To enable it, log in to the camera and go to Configuration -> Network -> Advanced Settings -> Integration Protocol, Enable Open Network Video Interface. In addition to enabling it, you also need to create an ONVIF user. After the procedure, the camera has to be restarted, only then it will be possible to add it to the DVR.Splicing optical fibers – testing with VFL.
Signal Fire Ai-9 splicers have a built-in visual VFL fault locator. This device generates visible (red) light with a wavelength of 650 nm for preliminary check of a splice. After removing a pigtail from the package, the user connects its plug to the VFL socket, while the free end of the fiber is spliced with that of the cable. After splicing, it is possible to generate visible light with the "650" button on the front of the splicer. The person at the other end of the link checks if the light reaches the other end of the optical path.Interestingly, Signal Fire splicer can splice when the visible light is already propagated through the fiber. Splicing with the VFL on relies on the splicer mechanical system and its software. Some splicers refuse to work if this is the case. This feature can be useful when visible light is introduced into several or more fibers using an optical splitter on one side of the connection (using a dedicated VFL, to avoid switching the light source and being constantly in touch with the splicing person), and splicing is performed on the other side.
Signal Fire Ai-9 L5875 splicer has a built-in VFL module. Therefore, it is possible to connect the pigtail being spliced directly to the module, and then splice and verify the joint.
