Better lithium-ion batteries thanks to graphene.

The Australian company Graphene Manufacturing Group (GMG) has unveiled a breakthrough blend of liquid graphene ("Super G") to improve the performance of standard lithium-ion batteries. The graphene is derived from a manufacturing system developed by GMG. At their pilot plant, it goes through a series of stages so that it is eventually transformed into liquid graphene that can be added to the cathode or anode of a customer's lithium-ion battery. GMG has developed the slurry over the past three years for its own graphene-aluminum-ion battery that has unique properties such as high electrical conductivity, low charge transfer resistance and high density compared to other carbon additives and materials used in lithium-ion batteries. GMG is reportedly engaged in discussions with a number of battery manufacturers and industry representatives to explore the possibility of testing and supplying Super G technology. According to a recent study by the University of Oxford, Super G exhibits 2.5 times lower average ionic resistivity compared to standard graphite. The lower ionic resistivity of the pores will improve battery performance, charging and discharging rates. Super G technology also features a multimodal particle distribution that increases energy density, resulting in higher power output and longer battery life. Furthermore, unlike conventional materials, Super G maintains its integrity during calendering (compressing the battery film), ensuring that the bonding layer is not significantly damaged.
Similar research is being conducted by scientists at the California Institute of Technology, who have developed a method for coating the cathodes of lithium-ion batteries with graphene, which will extend the life and performance of these commonly used batteries. Moreover, it will make their production independent of cobalt, which is impossible to obtain in an environmentally neutral way. Dry coating of the cathode with graphene composite has proven effective in the lab. The graphene coating has doubled the life cycle of batteries and allowed batteries to operate over a slightly wider temperature range than was previously possible. Since graphene is a form of carbon, it is widely available and environmentally friendly. This method has additional benefits for the battery industry. Since battery factories are very expensive, it is important that the improved battery technology be scalable and fit into the production processes of existing batteries.

Antennas for DVB-T2 terrestrial TV.

SMART HORIZON COMBO A2270 and SMART CITY COMBO A2050 are advanced antennas designed for digital terrestrial TV reception that meet the requirements of modern TV systems, including the DVB-T2 standard. These antennas are recommended both, for individual systems and for multi-family buildings. With their ability to operate in the UHF and VHF bands, they are compatible with digital signals available on the European market. Both antennas are distinguished by their aesthetic appearance and ability to be installed in urban and suburban spaces. They offer users a stable signal and ease of setup. Thanks to the aluminum and high-quality plastic design, the antenna is lightweight, durable and resistant to harsh weather conditions. The built-in LTE 700 filter eliminates interference associated with cell phone transmissions in the band above 700 MHz.
The H/V polarized DVB-T2 DIPOL SMART HORIZON COMBO antenna (28 elements) with built-in antenna amplifier with a bypass
is designed to receive DVB-T2 digital terrestrial television in the VHF and UHF bands.
The H/V polarized DVB-T2 DIPOL SMART CITY COMBO antenna (13 elements), with built-in antenna amplifier with a bypass,
is designed to receive DVB-T2 digital terrestrial television in the VHF and UHF bands.
Despite their small size, SMART antennas offer high quality reception due to their thoughtful design. Made of aluminum and galvanized steel elements ensure durability. The antennas have the ability to operate in vertical and horizontal polarization. The lightweight design makes it easy to install even on towers up to 60 mm in diameter.

Powering the camera directly from a fiber optic media converter.

Fiber optic cables are the core of the cabling of many surveillance systems. They are usually chosen in cases where camera points remain a considerable distance from the monitoring center.
In a situation where the camera point includes 1 camera, its implementation usually takes into account the use of a sealed box, in which the media converter is placed together with the power supply, PoE power supply and a box/housing protecting the place of fiber optic splicing introduced into the box.
DIPOL offers ULTIMODE L1302 media converter equipped with PoE power supply function connected from the RJ45 interface side of the device. This saves space in the sealed box and simplifies cabling. The media converter is compatible with 802.3af and 802.3at standards. It will successfully power any IP surveillance camera available on the market.
Universal fiber L76004 terminated with L34372 pigtails plugged into L42233 adapter is fed to the pole box. The fiber supply and splice are secured in the L5302 subscriber box recommended for this type of installation due to its small size. The connection of the SFP 1415 insert installed in the L1302 media converter to the fiber, is made with a 0.5 meter LC duplex patchcord L3223372_05. The short patchcord saves space and avoids troublesome excess cabling inside the box.

How to find out on which wires power is sent to IP cameras?

In 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet networks, standardized power to cameras is usually implemented according to the 802.3af or 802.3at standard. The way the power is to be distributed is determined by the PoE switch. It can deliver power in two ways:
  • option A – power sent together with data on pairs 1/2 (+) and 3/6 (-)
  • option B – power is sent over free pairs 4/5 (+) and 7/8 (-)
A powered device can provide both, or only one, of the power modes while remaining compliant with the standard. The powered device must therefore support both modes, but as it turns out in practice, not all end devices are fully compliant with the standard. This may be the reason for incompatibility with some power devices.
To check which wire pairs are used for power transmission, you can use the Alpsat AS33-IPCX M3214 meter, which has a function to identify (by measuring voltage) the wire pairs used for PoE (PSE application). Connect the equipment as shown in the diagram below:
Example results:
Power supply according to option A – power transmitted
including data on pairs 1/2 (+) and 3/6 (-)
Power supply according to option B power sent
is through free pairs 4/5 (+) and 7/8 (-)
