Ultra-thin solar cells.

Conventional power solutions, including fossil fuels, batteries and other methods of alternative energy generation, have their drawbacks. For example, they are too large and require cables or stationary charging. Ultra-thin and flexible solar cells, made from a new material called "perovskite," are proving to be an efficient and lightweight solution for converting energy over long periods of time.
Researchers at Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria, have unveiled their latest development: ultralight and ultra-thin photovoltaic cells. The perovskite solar cells are less than 2.5 micrometers thick. They offer an impressive 20.1% efficiency while maintaining a high degree of flexibility, meaning they can be bent into almost any shape. A remarkable cell power density of 44 W/g must also be added to the advantages.

The ultralight and flexible module is 20 times thinner than a human hair. It can power virtually any electronic device, of course, wherever there is light. To demonstrate the capabilities of their new technology, the researchers equipped a commercial quadrocopter the size of a palm with ultralight solar cells. Twenty-four cells accounted for just 1/400 of the drone's total weight. The configuration allowed the drone to operate self-sustainably and carry out successive charge-flight-charge cycles, demonstrating the effectiveness of the solution.
The new technology might be applied in search-and-rescue operations, large-scale mapping or solar power generation in space.

Does a good splice “glow”?

Installers who check systems based on fiber optic cabling often use a so-called visual fault locator. This tool allows checking the continuity of the cabling and, among other things, locating areas of excessive fiber bending in couplers, switches, splice boxes, etc.
We are often asked about the splice “glowing”. This is encountered relatively often, but light leakage at the splice of the fiber does not always mean a damaged (broken) splice. Often, it is due to the fact that light-generating devices introduce light across the entire cross-section of the fiber - not only the core, but also the sheath and even the outer coating of the fiber are illuminated. This results in light leakage in places that are not necessarily damaged. It is enough, for example, to gently bend a pigtail or patchcord to see a slight glowing of the sheath. It is no different with splices – glowing in this place can be a consequence of a shift in the fiber sheath, not affecting the parameters of the splice. Moreover, the existence of a splice shield can amplify this effect, as the light escaping from the sheath hits the material with a higher refractive index.
The photo above shows the difference in "glow" on a bad and on a good splice. A cracked splice (as a result of mishandling the sheath immediately after heating) glows intensely and spot-on. A proper splice emits a much less intense and more diffuse light.
The intensity of the light also depends on the power of the visual damage locator. Devices with higher power will allow testing of longer lengths of cable, but the light they generate may leak more clearly in undamaged areas, unnecessarily drawing the installer's attention.

AS07STCA-4K – certified meter for TV systems.

In residential buildings, before the inspector's acceptance, it is necessary to verify the correctness of the completed RF/SAT system – whether the devices have been connected properly and whether no mistakes have been made in the design of the network. These errors can be caused by, among other things, inadequate distances from heat-emitting devices or the system of networks in rooms exposed to high humidity. During the first stage of the inspection, it is determined whether there is any visible mechanical damage. The condition of wires and connections is also checked. All this information should be included in a report prepared before commissioning the system.
Another important element is the measurement of terrestrial and satellite TV signals. For this purpose it is best to use a device that has the appropriate certificate.
DVB-T/T2(HEVC 10 bit)/C/J.83B/ISDB-T and DVB-S/S2 signal meter AS07STCA-4K with spectrum analyzer and calibration certificate
The AS07STCA-4K certified signal meter can measure DVB-S/DVB-S2 (4K) satellite signal, DVB-T/T2 (4K) terrestrial TV signal in HEVC 10 Bit compression and C/J.83B/ISDB-T cable signal.
Each AS07STCA-4K R10206 meter comes with a calibration certificate, which confirms its high quality workmanship and ensures the reliability of the measurements made in TV systems.

Changing the call forwarding time in Hikvision IP video intercom monitors.

In the Hikvision IP video door entry system, it is possible to forward the call of the caller from the external door station, directly to the application installed on the smartphone. For this to be possible, you need to create a Hik-Connect account, add the video door phone to the account, install the Hik-Connect application on your smartphone and log in to the account. Add the video intercom monitor to the account, through which the connection with the door station will be made (if you have a Villa-type single-subscriber station, it is possible to add the door station itself to the Hik-Connect cloud directly). Once the Hik-Connect service is enabled and properly configured, pressing the call button on the door station will trigger a call on both the monitor and the smartphone with the app installed. By default, the call forwarding time on the monitor is set to "0 s", which means that if you press the call button on the door station, the monitor , and the smartphone app will ring at the same time. If this time is changed to, for example, "10 s", if the tenant does not answer the call before the time expires, only then will the call be forwarded to the app. To change time from the iVMS-4200 level, after entering the door station settings, go to the tab: Intercom -> Time Parameters -> Call Forwarding time.

External RACK cabinet.

If you need to install network equipment outside the building, you should use dedicated components for this purpose. One of them is the SIGNAL sealed 5U SH-567/426/369 IP55 R90630 cabinet, made entirely of aluminum, equipped with a door closed with an airtight lock and protected by a rubber seal. The cabinet is designed for both outdoor and indoor use. Thanks to its corrosion resistance and light weight, about 6 kg, it is an ideal alternative to steel cabinets. It is designed for mounting on masts (using the R90610F bracket) and in other cumbersome places.

In most situations, a useful accessory included in the cabinet will be a Keystone patch panel, such as R9120320, on which cabling of various types can be terminated. For each device installed in the cabinet, note that its parameters should allow installation in this type of cabinet (permissible operating temperature).
