DIPOL Weekly Review – TV and SAT TV, CCTV, WLAN

No. 2/2024 (January 8, 2024)

WRC-23 conference has designated frequencies for 5G and 6G.

On December 15, 2023, the nearly month-long World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) in Dubai concluded, with major decisions on mobile communications. The conference was attended by 3,900 delegates from 163 countries, and the main topic was the future use of radio frequency spectrum and the orbits of geostationary and non-geostationary satellites. Delegates came to a common agreement on new mobile lower-band spectrum (below 1 GHz) and mid-band spectrum in the 3.5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. One of the key decisions was to leave the UHF band in the 470-694 MHz range to be used exclusively for terrestrial TV services. The decision covers Region 1, or Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. This state of affairs is expected to continue for at least another eight years. Another analysis of the need to free up this band for data transmission is scheduled for the WRC-31 conference (2031).
There has been a huge amount of excitement about the future use of the 6 GHz band (6.425-7.125 GHz). The conference decided to use this band for mobile data techniques – 5G-Advanced in Europe, Africa and several countries in different parts of the world. A certain unknown here is the United States, having already decided to allocate this band as unlicensed, for the next generation of WiFi techniques. Further discussions and perhaps ultimately binding decisions for all countries will be made at WRC-27. A decision was made to study the possibility of using the 7 - 8.5 GHz band for 6G technology by the next conference (2027). Plans assume the first deployments for 6G for 2030. Integration of cellular networks with satellites was also addressed and regulations were issued to systematize the issue.

Sunell NVRs – disabling notifications via alarm input.

If the building has other systems besides the surveillance system, e.g. intelligent building system, access control system, or alarm system, it is worth considering the implementation of the DVR disarming function. Activating this function results in disabling notifications generated by alarm events, such as motion detection or crossing a virtual line. The events are normally recorded in the system and a record is kept, but alarm actions can be deactivated, such as o sending an email or sending notifications to the client application.
Activation of an alarm input is accomplished by shorting or opening an alarm contact. For example, deactivating the alarm system (meaning the user is home) can disable notifications, as in this case they are unnecessary.
How to connect the signal from the Satel Integra 32 control panel to an alarm input of the DVR, using a relay.
In the above example, the low-current output OUT3 of the Integra 32 control panel triggers the relay that connects the alarm input 1 of the NVR with the ground. This state is defined in the recorder settings to disable email and push notifications to the owner's phone.

Fiber optic overhead line – LINEO bracket.

Self-supporting fiber optics (ADSS – All Dielectric Self-Supporting) with a diameter of about 3 mm are most often used in the implementation of subscriber connections. Such an optical fiber is fed to the subscriber's house from the nearest pole, and on both sides of the connection the so-called guying bracket is installed. Such optical fibers, due to their low price, simple design and relatively small number of fibers, are also used, for example, in CCTV systems, where part of the cabling is run overhead.

LINEO E857523 guying bracket
The LINEO E857523 bracket is designed for the implementation of overhead lines based on cables up to 3.5 mm in diameter. The unique feature of the bracket that distinguishes it from other similar designs is the ability to pull the cable from the ground, rather than from a ladder at the pole. This means that the length and tension level of the cable span can be adjusted after the cable is system in the holder. This is a very convenient and quicker system. At the same time, the bracket is durable and weatherproof.

DVB-T2 signal measurement in channel amplifier.

Channel amplifiers perform an important function in any SMATV system. They are mounted at the input of the system to amplify and equalize all DVB-T2 multiplexes. The configuration of the channel amplifier itself is simple and quite intuitive. Typically, channel amplifiers are configured using a knob (buttons) located on the front casing of the device or using any mobile device equipped with Android (possibly a Windows computer). The choice of configuration method depends on the manufacturer of the product. A good installation practice first recommends measuring the DVB-T2 terrestrial TV signal measured directly from the antenna, and then measure this signal for each multiplex at the output of the amplifier. Ideally, you should use a certified ALPSAT AS07STCA-4K R10206 TV signal meter.
The above picture shows the measurement of terrestrial digital DVB-T2/HEVC with the ALPSAT AS07STCA-4K R10206 meter at the output of the PROFINO Revolution 6711 R89062 channel amplifier for the example channel 23 in the UHF band. An equivalent measurement should be made for the other MUXes in the system. If this is the case, the best solution is to use a signal spectrum analyzer or the Tilt Limit function, which allows bar measurement of up to 12 MUX of digital terrestrial TV. The amplifier has been set to an RF output level of 90 dBuV for each of the 5 multiplexes. This level of RF signal is completely sufficient for distribution and correct reception to dozens of receivers in the system.

DS-KD-TDM display module for Hikvision IP video intercom.

DS-KD-TDM G73671 is a 4" display module dedicated to work with Hikvision DS-KD8003-IME1(B) G73652 and DS-KD8003Y-IME2 G73646 IP door station main modules. It features an IPS-type touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 480 p. It has a built-in tag reader in the Mifare standard (13.56 MHz), a touch keypad that can be used to call tenants and open the electric door opener using a code, a list of tenants and the ability to display advertising graphics. Its high functionality allows integration and replacement of several modules with a single device. Using the iVMS-4200 application, it is possible to set what will be displayed on the screen when it is awakened. There are four options to choose from:
  • telephone call window (can ring and open with code),
  • contacts window,
  • press button to display call window (contact list),
  • card read window.

ULTIPOWER industrial switches

Industrial switches are dedicated for industrial facilities where unfavorable conditions such as increased dust, high or low temperature or high humidity may occur. Installation of such switches is also recommended for overhead cabling on poles or in cable chambers, with the use of sealed enclosures. The switches have Ethernet ports (Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet depending on the model) for connecting of such devices as IP cameras or PCs. ULTIPOWER industrial switches have IP40 rating (protection against access to hazardous parts, protection against solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 1 mm). All ports support PoE (the switch has to be powered with 48 VDC). The switches are equipped with an SFP port to convert the transmission medium to optical fiber.
The devices also have the following additional functions:
  • Extended function that enables powering devices connected with twisted pair with a length of up to 250 m,
  • PoE Auto Check automatically performs current restart of the connected device in the event of hanging,
  • HiPoE 90 W support for ports 1 and 2 (model N299704 only),
  • PD function allows the switch to be powered via the Ethernet port (model N299707 only).
In the example above, the switches have been installed in sealed boxes on poles. IP cameras have been connected to the switches and powered via PoE (48V 802.3af). Between the poles, optical fiber (single-mode fiber terminated with LC connectors and SFP inserts) cables are laid to create a network consisting of five cameras and an IP camera recorder (NVR). Application of industrial switches increases the reliability of such a system as they are more resistant to surges and harsh weather conditions. Moreover, the fiber optic cable between two poles effectively electrically isolates two locations of camera points.
