Energy from space.

Japan's Aerospace Exploration Agency is looking to place a group of small satellites equipped with solar panels in orbit around the Earth. The satellites would collect solar energy and then, using microwaves, transmit it wirelessly to ground receiving stations.
Photovoltaic panels in orbit provide an unlimited source of renewable energy by collecting energy at any time of day with almost no risk (compared to many factors that can damage panels conventionally installed on Earth). Thanks to the use of microwaves, data transmission is not compromised by clouds, for example.
Wireless power transmission.
Japan's space agency JAXA has already been trying for many years to make it possible to transmit solar energy from space to Earth. As early as 2015, it was successful in this field: 1.8 kilowatts (enough power to power an electric kettle) were transmitted wirelessly over a distance of 50 meters.
The potential issues will certainly be the loss of energy during transmission and the cost of the solution itself. The cost of making satellites that would generate 1 GW of energy would be as much as $7 billion. Despite the cost being so high, key tests are scheduled for 2025.

Installation of TERRA headend.

Devices for LAN, multimedia and CCTV systems are made in such a way that their installation is aesthetically pleasing and the devices are protected against accidental mechanical damage. Specially designed CD001 R90001 metal housing with DIN rail BD001 mounted on the rear panel is designed for mounting components of the TERRA headend. Combination of the rail and the sheet metal guarantees a rigid mounting of up to 8 devices on a DIN rail. The ventilation panel, which consists of three fans and a thermostat, provides an adequate level of cooling. The headend is powered by the UP413 12V/4.5A R82533 power supply.
Example of mounting a TERRA headend to a CD001 housing with DIN rail BD001 R90001. Additionally, on the mounting plate ID001 R90003, there are the SRM-522 R80522 multiswitch and Ethernet switch mounted. The whole system has the fan panel with a thermostat FD001 R90002 added.
The headend includes:
  • two TDX-420C modules with dual CI slot R81619 – one TDX-420C R81619 panel receives the entire package of signals from two satellite transponders (encrypted channels) and creates two adjacent DVB-T multiplexes. In practice, this ensures 6 standard definition SD channels or 2-3 high definition HD channels for each of the two DVB-T multiplexes.
  • two TDX-420 FTA R81618 modules – one TDX-420 R81618 panel receives the entire package of signals from two satellite transponders (encrypted channels) and creates two adjacent DVB-T multiplexes. In practice, this ensures 6 standard definition SD channels or 2-3 high definition HD channels for each of the two DVB-T multiplexes.
  • two UP413 R82533 power supplies – the two-device arrangement allows for redundant power supply of TERRA equipment. When two units are used, the failure of one will not affect the operation of the entire system: the power supply will be instantly and automatically switched to the other power source.

IP video surveillance system using bispectral camera.

A bispectral camera is a solution that combines the advantages of traditional video surveillance, allowing identification of people during the day or at night using additional illumination and thermal imaging. A thermal imager does not need additional illumination to work properly. Any object with a temperature above absolute zero (0 K = −273.15°C) emits infrared rays. A thermal imaging camera allows you to see the temperature distribution on the surface of this body and thus detect people and animals without additional lighting at night and in difficult weather conditions. By connecting the bispectral camera to the DVR, the image from the visible light sensor and the thermal image can be added to two separate channels. Moreover, the images can be integrated (superimposed) to obtain a thermal image of better quality. The camera supports also the VCA image analytics that can be used to implement perimeter protection. Below, an example of a monitoring system with the use of bispectral camera is shown. The system has been built with three DS-2CD2043G2-I K03207 cameras and a DS-2TD2628-3/QA K04987 bispectral camera. The video from the cameras is recorded on the DS-7608NXI-K1 K22069 DVR. The recordings from the cameras are stored on a 2 TB M89270 WD drive. Access to the system from the external network is provided by the Mercusys AC12G N2933 router.

Improving LTE signal at home.

The Signal GDW-505 A6777 repeater is used to amplify EGSM, GSM, DCS, WCDMA, and LTE signals and bring them indoors. The device is ideal for places where the signal is so weak that making calls or transmitting data via cellular phone is impossible. An example may be a place located far from the transmitter or a building with thick walls, cellars (coffee shops) or modern windows with panes of covered with metallic compounds.
Installation of the Signal GDW-505 A6777 repeater:
  • choose a place outside the building where the cellular signal is correctly received,
  • mount the outdoor antenna (A741031) so that it faces the GSM base station,
  • choose a location for installing the repeater somewhere inside the building to place the indoor antenna in the central part of the building/hall/room to be covered,
  • check if the distance between the outdoor and indoor antennas is at least 10 m,
  • install the GDW-505 repeater away from heat sources, ensuring proper device cooling,
  • check the correctness of the wire connections between the repeater and the antennas (the external and internal antenna sockets are marked accordingly),
  • plug the power supply into the 230 VAC socket.
The diagram below shows the correct installation of the repeater in a single-family house.

Ultimode OPM-2: a 4-in-1 optical power meter.

Ultimode OPM-2 is a meter designed for measurements in optical fibre networks. The meter has several features that distinguish it from many similar devices on the market. Among these, the most important are:

  • calibration for 10 wavelengths, so it can be used in less common applications such as CWDM networks, etc.
  • "4-in-1" – in addition to the meter function, the OPM-2 combines the functions of a visual fault locator, RJ45/UTP connection tester and a torch.
  • manual calibration of readings – this function, rarely found in devices of this class, allows to correct the meter's readings after comparing them with a reference device.

The OPM-2 enables absolute power measurement as well as reference measurement. It is a must-have piece of equipment for any installer fibre optic cabling systems.

Switches for pole installation. Industrial switches are designed for systems in industrial facilities where adverse conditions such as increased dust, high or low temperature, or high humidity are possible. Installation of industrial switches is also recommended for overhead cabling on poles or in cable chambers, with the use of sealed enclosures. The Ultipower switches have Ethernet ports (Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet depending on the model) for connecting of such devices as IP cameras or PCs. The enclosure meets the IP40 standard (protection against access to hazardous parts, protection against foreign solids over 1 mm in diameter). All ports support PoE (the switch has to be powered with 48 VDC). The switches are equipped with an SFP port to convert the transmission medium to optical fiber...>>>more
