No. 7/2023 (February 13, 2023)

Aptera's solar-powered vehicle will arrive as early as 2023.

Aptera plans to launch a three-wheeled, two-seater solar-powered vehicle with all-wheel drive this year. The vehicle will have a range of about 640 kilometers and will accelerate to 100 km/h in 4 seconds to reach a top speed of 162 km/h. Although the vehicle has been designed to draw energy from the sun, it will also be able to be charged using 120-volt mains voltage. In Southern California, an average American driver covering an average distance of 46 kilometers per day would never need to plug into the grid system to recharge the car. In a place with average sunshine such as New York, drivers would need to plug in about three times a year.

However, things are not as easy as it seems, there are still some issues the vehicle may encounter when it hits the market. The technology is almost ready, but weight disparities and the relative lightness of the design could pose problems. Solar technology also needs further development before it can be used to power a vehicle that looks like a conventional car. Photovoltaic cells have peak performance at a fairly narrow angle of sunlight. At a higher tilt, they generate very little energy. Typically, the vehicle does not have many flat surfaces, the cells are positioned at different angles and the vehicle itself can move in different positions relative to the sun. The vehicle also has a relatively small footprint for solar cells. Solar cells will therefore probably be most useful for auxiliary power to reduce the load on the battery. Time will tell how this type of solution will take hold in the market.
+++TERRA's innovative fiber optic system for RF/SAT systems. Fiber optic systems play an increasingly important role in the transmission of RF/SAT signals. They guarantee low signal loss and very high immunity to interference. DIPOL offers new TERRA solution for SMATV systems based on optical fibers. The new system for distribution of RF/SAT signals is distinguished by its high quality and competitive price. Key features of the system:
  • compact size of the devices allowing convenient installation together with other elements of the installation in RF cabinets
  • wide range of devices for systems based on traditional and/or dSCR/Unicable multiswitches
  • possibility to distribute 2x SAT+ DVB-T2 signals ___in a single fiber optic fiber
  • LEDs on the devices greatly facilitating diagnostics of possible signal problems.
Below is an example of TERRA's optical-copper RF/SAT system solution.

The use of Terra optical transmitters allows distribution of signals: DVB-T/T2 and SAT from two positions, via 1 fiber. LEDs on the housing allow for immediate verification of the correctness of connections and network diagnostics. The signal from the two satellite positions is transmitted separately at two wavelengths: 1310 nm and 1550 nm. A WDM 1x2 L383521 coupler was then used to transmit the signals in a single fiber. The FOS 102 E A98882 optical splicer allows splitting the optical signal into 2 paths. The next step is to use the WDM 1x2 L383521 coupler again for each of the two optical paths to separate the signal into 2 wavelengths and feed the signal to the ORQ302 E A3133 optical receiver, which performs light-to-copper conversion and splits the entire band into four polarization/band pairs (VL-HL-VH-HH) - just like for a classic QUATRO type converter and DVB-T2, DAB, FM signals.

Hikvision IP video door monitors with Android operating system.

Two Hikvision IP video intercom system monitors equipped with Android operating system are available from Dipol. The DS-KH9310-WTE1(B) G74009 monitor has a 7" TFT LCD touchscreen, while the DS-KH9510-WTE1(B) G74011 monitor has a 10" IPS touchscreen. The monitors with the B designation have Android operating system version 10. The monitors can display video from IP cameras added directly or through Hikvision DVRs. Compared to previous generations of monitors (which could decode 720 p/H.264 video), the current ones have the ability to decode video from IP cameras with resolutions up to 1080p and H.265 compression. If the resolution of the connected camera is higher an auxiliary stream is decoded. An undoubted advantage of these monitors is the ability to install up to two external applications to integrate them with other systems, such as alarm or smart home.

How to limit "live" video viewing privileges in Hikvision DVRs?

In surveillance systems, you can create multiple users and assign them various privileges. Among other things, you can allow certain users to view only some of the cameras. What if the user logs out? Hikvision DVRs allow you to specify which cameras can be viewed without logging in. The function is useful when automatic logout after a certain period of time is enabled, and surveillance of cameras is to be continuous. Similarly, in case the DVR restarts due to power failure. The next restart of the DVR, despite the failure to log in, can start viewing from the cameras.
The function can be configured via a web browser under Configuration->User Management->Live View Permissions with the screen lock.

Which optical power meter to choose?

Dipol offers 3 models of optical power meters designed to perform transmission measurements and verify the absolute power available at the outputs of active devices.
Which one should the installer choose?
The TM103N L5815 meter is the cheapest and at the same time the most popular measuring device on the market in this price range. The meter is based on a proven circuit, ensuring stable operation and correct measurement. The meter has a plastic housing without reinforcement. For some, the advantage of the meter may be the fact that it is equipped with an SC-type connector (socket) so that there is no problem with the ferrule slipping out of the socket during the measurement.
The Ultimode OPM-2 L5818 meter is a novelty based on a new, cheaper chip. Tests have shown that the results of measurements made with this meter do not differ from other, more expensive ones. At the same time, the meter has a robust housing and several extremely useful additional functions: a VFL visualizer, RJ45 connector tester and LED flashlight. It is equipped with a 2.5 mm universal connector, which, on the one hand, is convenient because it allows the connection of all types of connectors with a 2.5 mm ferrule (SC. FC, ST) and, on the other hand, it requires the installer to take care of the correct positioning of the plug in the socket, so that it does not accidentally slip out and disturb the measurement result.
The Grandway FHP2B04 L5822 meter is the most expensive meter in the group of described devices. The choice of this device should be considered by those who care about a really solid housing made of high-quality plastic and the function of storing measurement results in memory. The meter is equipped with an FC connector and a replaceable SC adapter included. Grandway is a brand that is recognized in the fiber optic installation market, which may not be insignificant for some contractors.

Compact IP Camera: Hikvision Hikvision DS-2CD2043G2-I (4 MP, 4mm, 0,005lx, IR up to 40, WDR, H.265/ H.264, AcuSense)
+++The Hikvision DS-2CD2043G2-I++ K03208 compact IP camera is part of the EasyIP 2.0 Plus Series, which implements AcuSense technology based on the Deep Learning algorithm. Therefore, in case of motion detection events and VCA analysis (crossing a virtual line, detection of intrusion) there is a filter that allows you to classify objects of the human/vehicle type and filter out all other alarms that do not meet the criterion (rain, walking animals, moving trees, falling leaves, etc.).

Single-mode PC-523S SC/APC-FC/UPC patchcord, duplex G.657A1 1m L3423 with a length of 1 meter and a diameter of 3 millimeters, manufactured from single-mode duplex fiber optic cable terminated with SC/APC connector on one side and FC/UPC connector on the other side.

1/2 FC/UPC FOS102 E TERRA optical splitter
1/2 FC/UPC optical splitter FOS102 E TERRA A98882 is a component used to split an optical signal into 2 paths. The splitter can be used in any PON applications, especially in TV distribution systems based on TERRA equipment. The FOS-type splitter housing allows easy installation in typical TV boxes. The FC/PC sockets are directly fed with fiber optic fibers terminated with connectors. It is not required to use switches or fiber optic adapters.
