Robots will gain a new way to grasp objects.
If you have been in an arcade and tried to grab and hold an object with an automatic gripper, you know how difficult it is. Such a task would be much more stressful if, instead of a soft plush toy, one had to pick up a delicate piece of endangered coral or valuable cargo from a sunken ship. Most current robotic grippers use operator skill, embedded sensors, complex feedback loops or state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to grasp delicate and irregular objects. However, researchers at Harvard University's SEAS school of engineering have proven that there is a simpler method.Drawing inspiration from nature, the researchers created a new type of soft robotic gripper that uses a network of thin tentacles to wrap around and grasp an object, much like jellyfish do. The individual fibers by themselves are not very strong, but when used as a group, they are able to firmly grasp and hold objects of different shapes and sizes. Additionally, the gripper does not require sensing, planning or feedback control to wrap an object. The gripper's strength and adaptability come from its ability to entangle with the object it is trying to grasp. The foot-long fibers are rubber tubes. One side of the tube has thicker rubber than the other, so when the tube is pressurized, it curls up like a braid; in its absence, it straightens out like hair on a rainy day. The tubes bind and entangle with each other and the object, and each entanglement increases the strength of the grip. While the collective grip is strong, each contact is weak individually and will not damage even the most delicate object. To free the object, the fibers are simply stretched out. The researchers used simulations and experiments to test the gripper's effectiveness by lifting a range of objects, including various potted plants and toys.
The gripper can be used in real-world applications to grasp soft fruits and vegetables, delicate tissue in medical facilities, and even irregularly shaped objects in warehouses like glass. This new approach to robotic grasping complements the existing solutions by replacing simple, traditional grippers that require complex control strategies with extremely flexible and complex fibers that can operate with very simple control.
Twisted-pair cable categories.
Defining the requirements for specific categories or classes of structured cabling (including maintaining their compatibility) is handled by Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The EIA/TIA standard and the European standard EN50173 define copper cables in several groups, in which their suitability for information transmission is determined. The following categories or classes of cabling are distinguished, ensuring the functioning of applications in different networks and giving backward compatibility with existing solutions.- Category 1 (class A by EN 50173)
- Telephone voice services with band up to 100 kHz.
- Category 2 (class B by EN 50173)
- Voice services and older terminal systems with band up to 1 MHz.
- Category 3 (class C by EN 50173)
- Telephone services with band up to 16 MHz.
- Category 5/5e (class D according to EN 50173)
This is the most common class of twisted-pair cable used for local area networks, and covers applications using frequency bands up to 100 MHz. It is used in both local Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps speed) and Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps) applications.

- Category 6 (class E by EN 50173)
- Applications requiring frequency band up to 250 MHz, data transfer rates up to 1 Gbps.
CAT 6 Cable NETSET U/UTP 6 (indoor) E1608
- Category 6A (class EA by EN 50173)
- Applications requiring frequency band up to 500 MHz. Ideal for multimedia transmissions; U/FTP, F/FTP versions.
NETSET U/FTP 6A twisted-pair cable, indoor use E1617_500
- Category 7 (class F by EN 50173)
- Category 7 cables allow for applications requiring frequency band up to 600 MHz. Compared with the lower categories, each pair of the S/FTP cables is individually screened and all the pairs are wrapped up in another shielding layer. The connectors for the cables are shielded as well.
NETSET U/UTP cat. 7 E1626
- Category 7A (class FA by EN 50173)
- Applications requiring frequency band up to 1000 MHz. Allows for data transfer rates up to 100 Gbps over distances up to 15 m or 40 Gbps over distances up to 100 m.
Ultimode G-10G/SFP+ - 10 Gbps media converter.
While the telecomm market registers the first commercial deployments of the 400 Gbps Ethernet standard, local networks in hotels, schools, offices, etc. increasingly require devices that implement connections at the 10 Gbps level. A new model of media converter has appeared in Dipol's offer: Ultimode G-10G/SFP+ L1307, in which SFP+ inserts can be installed: duplex: L1425, L1428 and BiDi: L1430, L1432.Media converter Ultimode 10 Gbps L1307 and SFP+ BiDi L1430 insert. LEDs allow you to verify the correct operation of the device. The 10G LED indicates 10 Gbps speed negotiation for a connection on a copper interface (twisted-pair cable). The L1307 behaves differently from the lower-speed Ultimode models in terms of LED operation. Here, when a media converter is connected to another device (a second media converter or switch) via fiber optic cable, the SD (Signal Detected) LED is lit, but the Link ACT LED is off. This one lights up only when the copper interfaces are connected to the correct devices (the Link LED also lights up in parallel).
Coaxial cable in B2ca flammability class.
From July 1, 2017 in the EU, all installation cables in buildings are considered to be construction products subject to applicable regulations. The CPR Directive requires manufacturers to develop and make available the Declaration of Performance (DoP), as well as to mark products covered by the relevant CE mark. The EN50575 specifies the requirements for: performance in fire conditions, test and evaluation methods for power, control and telecommunications cables used in buildings with a specific fire resistance class. With the introduction of pan-European fire response classes, designers and architects have clear regulations specifying the rules for selecting cables. To achieve increased fire safety levels, the regulations recommend the use of B2CA cables in special buildings that must meet very tight safety requirements (e.g. in hospitals, nurseries, high-rise buildings, office buildings and nursing homes). The TriSAT B2CA E1022_500 complies with the flammability classes. It has the LSZH-FR (low smoke zero halogen flame retardant) sheath – halogen-free insulation. In the event of a fire, the cable does not spread flame, smoke emission is very low and the released gases are not corrosive. Its low attenuation and A+ shielding class make it ideal for use within fire escape routes. The cable is offered in 500 m lengths on an ABS spool packaged in a cardboard box for significantly easier transport.
What distinguishes the second generation of cameras with active deterrence (TiOC 2.0)?
The TiOC (Three in One Camera ) cameras combine 3 modern monitoring functions: color night vision, intelligent image analysis and active deterrence (i.e., optical and acoustic signaling generated at the moment of an incident). The new 2nd generation is distinguished by the following features:- Hybrid illuminator with intelligent switching
The camera has two illuminators – infrared (IR) and white light. With the default settings, the camera automatically switches to IR or white light illuminator mode. In night mode, the camera operates with the IR illuminator, but when an object is detected in the monitored area, the scene is illuminated with white light. This provides greater identification capabilities (the image is in color). In addition, the active deterrence function can be activated, i.e. optical signalling (flashing blue and red LEDs) and acoustic signalling (audible messages).
IR illuminator works at night | The rule turns on the white light | Active deterrence is activated | IR illuminator turns on |
- Better sound quality – double microphone and powerful speaker
The camera has 2 microphones working in an arrangement to improve sound quality and increase the range by about 7 m (compared to the previous generation of TiOC). This is handled by a new specialized chip that handles audio capture and noise reduction. Particular focus has been placed on operation in wind, which negatively affects the quality of recorded sound. Combined with a more powerful speaker, it performs very well in two-way communication (you can talk to the person standing next to the camera).

Cleaning of optical fiber connectors. Attenuation is the main problem of signal transmission over long distances. For optical fibers, the attenuation may depend on various factors, such as splicing accuracy or exceeding the minimum fiber bending radius. It often happens, however, that despite the correct connection and wiring, the attenuation of the optical path is still too high.>>>more
