No. 22/2022 (May 30, 2022)

China, the 5G leader.

May 17 is World Telecommunications and Information Society Day. Referring to this international holiday, China announced that it has succeeded in building the world's largest mobile service broadband network with 5G technology and fiber optic network dominating in it. At the same time, it was communicated that the quality of services provided in the above-mentioned networks reached the highest global standards.
The percentage of users who can benefit from fiber-based connections has increased from less than 10% in 2012 to a value of 94.3% in 2021. The Chinese government has recently supported the construction of fiber optic networks in more than 130,000 major towns and villages and the construction of 5G base stations in 60,000 rural areas, increasing broadband coverage in these areas from less than 70% to 100%. Moreover, the 5G network has become a key technology in China's industrial Internet and is widely used in 45 major sectors of the national economy, including R&D, design, manufacturing, marketing and other services.
China has built nearly 1.6 million 5G base stations across the country, accounting for more than 60% of the overall number of them.
China's investment in 5G technology development in 2021 reached 184.9 billion yuan or about US$29 billion. This accounts for as much as 45.6% of the total investment in the telecommunications industry. The number of 5G users is estimated to exceed 560 million by 2023. Every 10,000 people in the country will be served by more than 18 5G base stations.

DVB-S/S2 signal distribution via fiber optics.

An owner of a large hotel complex ordered the installation of terrestrial TV providing signals in the new DVB-T2 standard and DVB-S/S2 satellite signals. The installation was to cover 5 facilities. The TV system would distribute signals in the new DVB-T2 standard from a local transmitter, and 15 FTA satellite programs in the form of digital DVB-T signals. For that purpose, a solution based on TERRA equipment has been chosen.

Diagram of the optical and copper system for 5 hotel facilities with DVB-T2 signal distribution (4 digital terrestrial TV multiplexes and 8 multiplexes from the tdx-480 R81621 transmodulator). Part of the source signal was allocated to the local subnet (the building with the service room). Single-mode optical fibers were connected to the remaining buildings.
To ensure the distribution of terrestrial TV signals of the best possible quality and to equalize the signal levels at the input of the system, the contractor has decided to use programmable multi-band amplifier PROFINO Revolution 6711 R89062. Reception and distribution of satellite programs is possible with the use of tdx-480 R81621 transmodulator. The configuration of the panels shown in the diagram allows to receive 16 satellite programs in Full HD quality from 8 transponders.
The DVB-T/T2 signal prepared for distribution is transmitted to other buildings via single-mode optical fiber. The mo418 4D31 R82522 optical transmitter with a laser power of 6 dBm was used to for that purpose. Moreover, the so414 R82527 optical splitter is mounted on the same DIN R82538 rail to divide the signal into four optical paths. The transmitter is powered by the DR-60-12 12V/4.5A R82532 power supply. The inverse conversion of the signal from the optical medium to copper wire is performed in hotel buildings by TERRA OD-005P R81760 optical nodes. The maximum signal level at the output of the node is 107 dBµV which allows the TV signal to be distributed to several dozen R62120 sockets without the need of additional amplifiers. In such a configuration of optical fiber devices, the DVB-T/T2 signal can be transmitted to a distance of up to 12 km.

Double verification of access rights to recordings.

A monitoring system operator can usually access a DVR through an account with limited access rights. It usually allows for a preview of current images from cameras, while viewing archives requires logging in to an account with higher privileges.
Hikvision has introduced the function of double verification of access for a temporary extension of access rights. If the operator wants to access the recordings, additional credentials (specially created for this purpose) are required. He remains logged in to his account, but gains temporary access to view the recordings.
The double verification function works for both local and remote access (via a browser and iVMS-4200). It supports viewing and archiving recordings.

Sample image from the from ColorVu camera.

The DS-2CD2087G2-L K03195 is an EasyIP 4.0 Series compact IP camera from Hikvision that combines two key technologies ColorVu and AcuSense. The AcuSense technology increases the effectiveness of the surveillance system by eliminating false and nuisance alarms through human/vehicle object filtering. With ColorVu technology, the camera can capture color images round the clock while retaining important identification details. The camera has an F1.0 aperture lens which delivers 4 times more light to the sensor compared to a conventional camera with an F2 aperture lens. Combined with a large 1/1.2" sensor, it provides bright and colorful images in almost any conditions. It is also equipped with an LED white light illuminator which can switch on automatically in very dark scenes. Below an image from the camera recorded during the day and at night is shown.

Replacement of electrodes and cleaning of lenses in SignalFire splicers.

Electrodes in fiber optic splicers require periodic replacement. Typically, the replacement intervals depend on the number of splicing cycles and calibrations performed. For Signal Fire L5870 and L5875 splicers, the estimated lifetime of electrodes is 3,000 splices. The installer receives an extra set of electrodes with the splicer.
Occasionally, the electrodes will wear out sooner. You will know that this is the case when splicing cannot be performed correctly despite arc calibration: the junction is narrowed, or the fibers fail to connect at all. Importantly, the tips of worn electrodes are rounded, as opposed to new ones, which have a pointed tip.
SignalFire electrodes are extremely easy to replace; the operation does not need to be performed at a specialized service center. Simply remove the casing, unscrew the two screws, and replace old electrodes with new components. Electrodes are inserted into plastic brackets to ensure their correct position in the splicer. There is no risk of mistakes.
The replacement of electrodes in the splicer is an excellent opportunity to clean the device, especially the camera lenses under the electrodes. You can use IPA alcohol, cotton buds, and dust-free wipes for cleaning. The picture shows a view of dirty lens after a year of using the splicer (2,700 splices).
After replacing the electrodes with new ones, remember to activate them using the SignalFire2 app. You will need the code given on the packaging to activate. The activation is essential to use the splicer. This guarantees that the installers use only dedicated electrodes, instead of substitutes that may cause problems both during replacement (non-matching plastic covers), and during operation (different life span).

Lossless transmission of HDMI signal via twisted-pair cable.

Most HDMI converters compress the signal, causing loss of quality of the received signal on the receiver's side. DIPOL offers H3644 converter using ipcolor standard, which ensures almost lossless video quality.
When using H3644 converters, there is no (video and sound) signal delay at the input and output of the kit. This is particularly important when you want to use remote control of devices through the built-in USB extension cable.
Key features:
  • Transmission via a single Cat. 5/5e/6 6/6A/7 cable,
  • Transmission speed up to 18 Gbps,
  • Image type 4K x 2K 60Hz,
  • No delays,
  • Support for DTS, Dolby,
  • Support for Audio Return Channel (ARC) and S/PDIF,
  • USB extension cable.

Building a house? Think of fiber optic. When designing or building a house, a lot is said about proper planning of cabling for low-current systems. However, laying the right cables outside the house at an early stage is often forgotten. Usually, apart from power cables, these include twisted-pair cables (e.g. for video intercom, surveillance cameras, intelligent house system elements etc.)...>>>more
