Japan has legalized the "flying car.”

SkyDrive, a Japanese startup working on the development of the "flying car," announced that its vehicle has received a safety certificate. The certificate has been granted by Japan's Ministry of Infrastructure Transport and Tourism. The document certifies that the design and construction meet the necessary requirements for safety and environmental protection in terms of performance and durability.
The company first revealed its early prototype to the world in 2018. The latest version of the SkyDrive flying car is called SD-03. It uses eight propellers and reaches a top speed of 30 miles per hour (48 km/h) on a trip lasting up to 10 minutes. SkyDrive, intends to launch the SD-03 flying cab service in the Osaka Bay area of Japan as early as 2025.
It is worth mentioning that the SkyDrive model, unlike other nascent solutions, does not have an enclosed cabin, which would make it more suitable to be called a "flying motorcycle" and not, as all promotional and informational materials suggest, a "car". This certainly has a negative impact on safety, although it does not seem to have affected certification procedure with the authorities, who openly state that Japanese transport will have a new face by around 2025.

Redirecting calls from the Villa Hikvision IP door/gate station directly to a smartphone.

1-subscriber Villa Hikvision IP video gate/door stations have the ability to be added directly to the Hikvision cloud and to redirect calls to a smartphone with the Hik-Connect application installed without the need for an additional internal monitor (otherwise a monitor is always required). To use this functionality, connect the gate/door station to the Internet via wired or Wi-Fi link, create an account at www.hik-connect.com, install the Hik-Connect application, and add the device to the account. Once the system is configured, pressing the call button on the door station will set up a connection on the smartphone with the app installed. After answering the call, it will be possible to have a two-way conversation and open the electric door strike or the gate.
In the diagram above, the door station has been connected to the router via a PoE switch that also provides power supply. The electric door strike is controlled by an additional 12 VDC power supply, via the first built-in relay in the door station. The second relay is connected to control the entrance gate. The user can view the image from the door station at any time via the application, even if no-one is calling, and can trigger the relays if necessary.

Application of the digital HDMI-DVB-T modulator with an additional HDMI output.

The conversion of A/V signals into high-frequency RF signals, meaning the introduction of signals from all kinds of signal sources, such as computers, players or surveillance cameras, into a terrestrial TV system, is an operation that requires the use of a so-called modulator. Such device has one or multiple A/V inputs (RCA, HDMI, etc., depending on the type) and an RF output (commonly known as the "antenna output), and it allows you to watch the video and listen to the sound on the selected channel on all TVs connected to the system. For the receiver, the program added to the system is just another terrestrial television channel.
The MHD002P R86104 modulator is a multifunction device which provides input Full HD signal (1920x1080-30p), fed into the HDMI port, modulated in DVB-T COFDM standard. In addition to an HDMI input, the MHD002P R86104 is equipped with an HDMI output allowing to watch the video from the connected source.
Application example of Terra MHD002P R86104 digital modulator. The source signal (Blu-Ray) is modulated and can be viewed on any TV set in the network. It is also made available on the HDMI output for the TV at that location.

Advanced motion detection configuration.

Hikvision IP cameras (except for some design devices) can define 8 independent motion detection zones, where each zone can have different sensitivity and detect objects of different sizes. This can avoid problems which may be caused by moving parts of the scene (e.g. leaves and branches moved by the wind), then the sensitivity in this zone should be reduced. Moreover, detection parameters can be different in each zone for day and night modes. In night mode, cameras often generate noise that can be recognized as motion by analytical algorithms. Therefore, it is recommended to reduce the sensitivity of motion detection in the night mode.
The settings mentioned are available after selecting an advanced configuration option of motion detection.

Reflectometry measurements – case study.

A reflectometer (an OTDR) is a device that can provide a lot of information about the fiber optic line being measured. This type of measurement is also the best method for finding the cause and location of an optical path failure. An example of a reflectogram is shown below. The measurement has been performed in a real network designed for distribution of FM/TV/SAT signals.
An example of a real reflectogram. Measurements performed with Grandway FHO3000 L5828 OTDR.
The pdf file can be downloaded here.
In this particular case, the fiber-optic line consists of:
  • 150 meters (actually 150 meters and 2 x 1.5 meters connection, 153 meters in total) of starter fiber (the value of 161 meters for the first event is due to the presence of dead zone – the distance is counted correctly from the eighth meter),
  • of the event on the 161st meter, which is indicated by the OTDR as a splice with attenuation of 0.26 dB. This is actually the connection between the starter and the measured path. This connection is a very high quality SC/APC connection with an extremely low reflectance. So this connection shows attenuation typical for a connector, while its reflectance is so low that it is not registered as a connector, but just as a splice. It is not uncommon in such situations that, in order to "improve" the reflectogram, that those performing the measurements contaminate the connector on purpose, so that it shows a reflectance character (reflects the light) and becomes visible on the diagram,
  • 172 meters of optical fiber (section from 161 m to 333 m) to a disconnecting connector with attenuation of 0.14 dB and reflectance of 48.36 dB (here the event also includes 1 splice),
  • 30 meters of patchcord (section from 333 m to 363 m) to a disconnecting connector with attenuation of 0.32 dB and reflectance of 47.85 dB (here the event also includes 1 splice),
  • 41 meters of optical fiber, the end of which is the end of the measured optical fiber line.
All the results achieved during the presented measurement are within generally accepted limits. For example, the typical return loss for SC/PC connectors used in the system is 40 dB. The measurement results obtained are around 48 dB. On the other hand, typical attenuation of connectors is assumed to be 0.3 dB. The measured values are 0.14 dB and 0.32 dB. The measurement revealed no macro bending of the fiber. Since the splices made in this connection are located immediately upstream or downstream the connector, it is not possible to measure their attenuation – it is included in the previously mentioned connector attenuation.
The greatest advantage of the method is the wealth of information it can provide. In order to interpret it properly, however, users need relevant knowledge and experience to prepare for the measurement procedure (set up correct device options, depending on the type and length of the tested line), as well as subsequent results analysis. Unfortunately, automatic measurement machines are practically never the solution in this case.
