Digital terrestrial television on the 5G network.

DVB consortium developing standards for digital television broadcasting (DVB) has approved the publication of DVB-Bluebook C100 which contains the commercial requirements for the DVB-I standard. This standard uses Internet access and streaming techniques to deliver television services over broadband networks. The released documentation contains 70 technical requirements and key elements related to TV transmission over 5G networks. Among the requirements set, there will be information on 5G Broadcast, 5G Media Streaming and LTE-based 5G Broadcast, which would also allow LTE networks to be used to transmit TV services. In addition to the technical requirements, the C100 document explicitly addresses various aspects related to cooperation, which is a key issue for a potentially successful DVB service on a 5G network. Broadcast service providers and 5G network operators must work together to beneficially leverage DVB and 5G TV functionality for the distribution of DVB-I services.
There are numerous advantages of using 5G networks to transmit DVB-T/T2 terrestrial television. First, all the frequencies currently used by terrestrial digital television (470-694 MHz) can be used by mobile telephony greatly increasing its coverage with less transmitter coverage. Another benefit is the possibility of watching TV on mobile devices and, in a way, linking it with the world of the Internet through more frequent and more advanced interactive content. At the same time, it should be remembered that the Internet – even the mobile one – offers much more in terms of bandwidth than traditional broadcasting methods. It means a better quality of broadcast programs. The DVB-I standard using 5G is expected to be fully approved in the third quarter of 2022.

Mounting a TV on the wall.

Today's TVs have screens of increasingly large diagonal, and at the same time they are becoming thinner and sleeker. They are not only a typical utility equipment but also a piece of interior decoration. It is not surprising that many users like to hang them on the wall instead of using dedicated furniture. This solution has many advantages and is not difficult to do.
The choice of a bracket for hanging a TV set on the wall comes down to three main features: load capacity, size and mounting standard. The most important criterion is the load capacity of the wall bracket, since it directly affects the safety of the receiver and the people staying near it.
Example of mounting a 40" tv set using Signal TV bracket – model LPA16-444A. Its successor is now the newer LPA16-444AX 32"-55" E93164 model of similar design.
The table below shows the family of Signal brackets. Each of the brackets presented can be adjusted horizontally. However due to the construction and design solutions used this adjustment may not be permanent. The cheaper solutions will tilt the TV to the left or right. For those who want to adjust the TV position to their needs, e.g. depending on whether it is watched from behind the table or from the sofa, we recommend the LPA16-444AX E93164 and LPA19-442 E93168 brackets. The rigid structure, bushings and adjustable smoothness of movement will satisfy the most demanding customers.

Optical RF/SAT systems – signal measurements in fiber optic cables.

Checking the optical signal level at different points of a fiber optic TV antenna system is essential to eliminate a number of potential problems when starting up the system. A distinctive feature of the systems using optical transmitters with DVB-S/S2 and DVB-T inputs is the existence of two wavelengths in the fiber optic link: 1310 nm and 1550 nm. It has a direct impact on the way the measurements are performed and interpreted by typical signal level meters, such as GRANDWAY FHP2B04 L5822.
TV Optical Transmitter TERRA OT501W (SAT/DVB-T, 6dBm)
Optical transmitter TERRA A9872 OT501W A9872 emits 6 dBm signal at 1310 nm and 1550 nm.
Connecting the meter directly (e.g. via a short patch cable) to the transmitter shown in the picture above, the screen readings close to 9 dBm are obtained regardless of whether the measurement is set at 1310 nm or 1550 nm. This is because typical signal level meters are based on broadband detectors and are not equipped with additional filters. At the same time, of course, they are calibrated in such a way that when a given wavelength is selected in the options, the correct indication is given as far as the light of this wavelength reaches the detector. Such design of the devices has its consequences:
  • in systems where the signal is generated at a single wavelength (e.g. 1310 nm), by setting the meter to measure a different transmission window, such as 1550 nm, the installer will be able to see the measurement result on the screen. However, it will not be correct. The correct one will be obtained only when the meter is set to measure 1310 nm;
    =
  • in systems where two wavelengths are used, setting the meter to measure one of them actually measures both, and the result is the sum of both measurements, both, the correct and incorrect ones. Therefore, in the above example, system with a 6 dBm transmitter, regardless of the chosen wavelength, 9 dBm will be read on the screen, the signal is 2x stronger (or otherwise stronger by 3 dB) than expected.
TERRA optical TV systems have one unique feature. The receivers used in them have WDM diplexers whose connectors are located outside the housing. This allows the installer to properly measure the level of the optical signal at the input of the receiver (only about 0.5 dB attenuation of the diplexer has to be taken into account) for each of the two wavelengths: 1310 nm and 1550 nm.
Optical Receiver TERRA OR501W (QUATRO + DVB-T/DAB/FM)

Firmware update in modular IP video door station, 2-Wire Hikvision with iVMS-4200.

Firmware update in the main module of the video intercom IP and 2-Wire as well as connected extension modules is made possible using the iVMS-4200 (v3). To do so, after activating and adding the main module to the client application, go to the Remote settings->System->System maintenance tab. In the Remote update section, select the module type to be updated and indicate the firmware file dedicated to it. The options are as follows:
  • controller update file (main module),
  • update file for display module,
  • update file for another module (all other modules)

SMD (Smart Motion Detection).

Traditional motion detection was based on changes in the light intensity reaching a pixel (or larger clusters of pixels) of the sensor. Any such change in light triggers detection, so the system catches the movement of objects that are irrelevant to security. It is sensitive to, for example, leaves moved by wind, flying insects, birds, shadows or precipitation.
The new motion detection system SMD can analyze detection events in terms of human or vehicle detection. Thanks to that, alarm notifications are filtered and unnecessary alarms are blocked. In a system with a compatible NVR, the recordings can be filtered in terms of human or vehicle detection. SDM+ is an enhanced version of motion detection that uses deep learning algorithms. The effectiveness of event filtering is over 90%. The SMD function is included in IP cameras WizSense, WizMind and DVR WizSense.
