The launch of the program has been postponed several times due to public debate and protests by privacy rights advocates. The 12 months to come will show whether introducing monitoring into these areas of privacy is more beneficial, or whether it will prove too invasive to human dignity and simply unethical.

A modern headend – and end-to-end solution for hotels.

When deciding to purchase a TV system, the owner of one of the hotels faced the choice of a suitable headend. A conventional headend distributes TV signals via coaxial cable. Headends converting satellite programs from DVB-S/S2 to DVB-T/ signal are the most popular solutions used in many hotels. Satellite channels can be an addition to the terrestrial television programs or be the only part of the package offered. No need to use more receivers (e.g. satellite receivers) for TVs, which makes this solution particularly attractive for hotels, guesthouses, apartments and hospitals.
One of the hotels in Zlotoryja has been equipped with TERRA compact headend S2C16 R81620 and TTQ-440 R81622 transmodulator. Also, in order to input signals from an external HDMI source to the TV system, the digital modulator MHD003P R86105 has been used. An unquestionable advantage of TERRA system is simple and intuitive web-based configuration and remote management from anywhere in the world.
The S2C16 R81620 has 16 transmodulators, each of which receives the signal from the entire satellite transponder (several programs), and then creates respectively 16 DVB-C multiplexes, enabling the reception of programs on TV sets equipped with a DVB-C head. Channels received from a specific transponder can be filtered as desired. However, the maximum bandwidth at the modulator output may not be exceeded. In practice, it means that with one small device we can provide up to 100 programs to TV sets. Additionally, via the “RF in” input, it is possible to inject the terrestrial digital TV signals (DVB-T/T2) into the system. It should be noted that the TV sets that are to receive the whole package have to be equipped with both, the DVB-C and DVB-T receivers. When the TV sets are unable to create a common channel list for both DVB-C and DVB-T sources, the TTQ-440 R81622 transmodulator should be used, which receives signals from four DVB-T/T2 multiplexes and then creates respectively 4 adjacent DVB-C multiplexes, allowing to receive terrestrial TV in the form of DVB-C signal.
In the system in question, the decision has been made to use uniform DVB-C standard. The TTQ-440 R81622 transmodulator converts DVB-T signal to DVB-C standard, and the MHD003P R86105 modulator with DVB-C output "allows" to transmit to the system the signal from HDMI source – e.g. an advertisement of optional services or a restaurant menu.

Attenuation of a splice made with Signal Fire splicer.

For many installers the value of attenuation of splices is the key issue when choosing a splicer. The market for splicers is broad and the opinions that can be found on the Internet about a particular model of splicer can be extremely varied. In addition to a number of performance issues, the quality of the splices that a particular splicer makes should be the crucial factor in determining whether it is good or bad. The quality of the splice is determined by its durability and attenuation.
The engineers of DIPOL Technical Department have conducted a test of attenuation of splices made with Signal Fire splicers. The so-called transmission method with a reference measurement was used to do so. For the test, special boxes have been designed that contain about 120 m of G.652D standard optical fiber, terminated with SC/APC connectors on one side. The other end of the fiber remains free – it can be freely unwound and repeatedly alternately spliced and broken. In addition, the boxes are equipped with a splice tray.

.
The tests showed an average splice attenuation for a wavelength 1550 nm to be 0.04 to 0.05 dB. The generally accepted standard is to allow splices with attenuation not exceeding 0.1 dB. However, there are factory standards and European standards that allow 0.15 dB or even 0.3 dB of attenuation. For the 1310 nm wavelength, the indications were lower and ranged from 0.00 dB - 0.03 dB.
More photos of the measurement and a detailed description and results of the test procedure are available here.

Manual change of signal type in Hikvision TurboHD DVR.

TurboHD Hikvision DVRs support the HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI and CVBS signals. They are "plug and play", which means that connecting a camera, which provides signal in one of these standards, automatically sets the signal type in the DVR. However, it may happen that, after connecting the camera, the signal is incorrectly detected and the image is shown distorted (often black and white). The solution to this problem is to set the signal type manually. This can be done in the local menu of the DVR. From the main menu go to the camera -> analog camera tab and, in the new window, go to the bottom right corner. When the cursor disappears, double click with the left mouse button to pop up a hidden menu. The input signal can be set manually here.

Video intercom system for an apartment block.

A diagram of the Hikvision IP video intercom system for a 10-story (40 apartments) apartment block is shown below. Two identical sets of gate/door stations are installed at the gate and entrance to the block which include: main module with a camera (DS-KD8003-IME1/EU G73652), Mifare tag reader (DS-KD-M G73662), keyboard to control the first relay in the station (opening ) the wicket gate and calling individual tenants (DS-KD-KP G73668), and a display module indicating the door station status and allowing to choose s subscriber from the list (DS-KD-DIS G73670). The gate station modules in the fence are enclosed in two surface-mounted frames (DS-KD-ACW2 G74354) with rain shields (DS-KABD8003-RS2 G74373). The entrance gate is controlled by the gate station in the fence (the second relay is built into the main module). The modules at the entrance to the block are enclosed in two flush-mounted frames (DS-KD-ACF2 G74343). The DS-KH6320-WTE1/EU G74001 monitors are installed in the apartments. The entire network is made of two TP-Link T1500-28PCT N29962 24-port switches.

This system configuration is very flexible. Any tenant can be called from the gate station. After receiving the call, the tenant hears and sees the person at the gate and can open the wicket or the gate at any time. The monitors support an intercom function supporting internal calls between individual apartments. Furthermore, each monitor supports the Internet via Wi-Fi for remote receiving and making calls and, if necessary, opening the wicket.
