True wireless charging at last!

Xiaomi, the world-famous Chinese phone manufacturer, has presented a method of charging phones without using cables. Named Mi Air Charge, the charger has 144 antennas which emit beams of millimeter waves. The smartphone has 14 receiving antennas, which transform millimeter waves into electricity, and a beacon antenna that transmits position information in case of low energy consumption. The technology in its current form allows for charging several devices simultaneously from a distance of several meters with a maximum power of 5 W for a single device. According to the manufacturer, physical obstacles do not affect the performance and range of charging. The technology will be available not only for smartphones, but also watches, bands, speakers and other small Xiaomi products. No release date for the system has been revealed yet, and it is not known whether this technology will ever hit the consumer market.

Integration of smart functions of IP cameras with a PTZ camera via an IP recorder.

Hikvision IP cameras, even the economic models (except for the EasyIP Lite series), support smart analysis in the form of a virtual line and the intrusion area. These functions can be turned on and configured after logging in to the camera, using the iVMS-4200 client software or from the Hikvision DVR. The virtual line and intrusion area can be used to detect people, vehicles, and other objects. After crossing the line in a defined direction or after entering the designated area, the user can be notified, start recording, trigger alarm output, send an e-mail, etc. Such events can also be associated with a PTZ dome camera and a preset, patrol or route can be launched.

The diagram below shows a system with 10 Hikvision DS-2CD2023G0-I K17631 compact IP cameras and one DS-2DE4225IW-DE K17912 rotary camera installed. The cameras are connected to the DS-7616NI-K2 K22165 DVR, which is an indispensable part of the system, enabling image recording and integration of smart functions of IP cameras with a rotary camera. The rotary camera is installed at a place allowing for observation of the a housing estate inner area. In compact IP cameras, an intrusion area or a virtual line is defined which, when violated, a specific preset is triggered in a dome camera. It makes it possible to identify the object that triggered the alarm. If several areas are violated at the same time, the first event will be handled. If the parking function is activated in the dome camera then, after the event ceases, the camera will move to a specific position. If nothing is set, the next violation will trigger another preset.

Important recordings stored on hard drives of recorders may require an additional backup. For WD Purple hard drives, a dedicated, free version of the software Acronis True Image WD Edition is available. The program allows you to easily and quickly make a backup (clone) of your hard disk. Twisted-pair cable - marking.

Twisted-pair is a signal cable type used to transmit information over telecommunications links and computer networks. Currently, it is most often used in analog telephony and in Ethernet networks. It is made up of one or more pairs of conductors twisted together. The twist is intended to eliminate the influence of electromagnetic interference and mutual interference, so called crosstalk.

The twisted-pair cable is described by ISO/IEC 11801:2002 standard. According to the information provided, the cable description should follow the xx/yyTP syntax where yy describes a single pair of conductors in the cable, and symbol xx refers to the entire cable.

The xx and yy symbols can be as follows:

• U – unshielded
• F – foiled (screened with foil)
• S – shielded (screened with braid)
• SF – shielded and foiled

• F/UTP – foiled cable
• U/FTP – unscreened cable with foil screened balanced elements.
• F/FTP – foil screened cable with foil screened balanced elements

• SF/FTP – overall braid and foil screened cable with foil screened balanced elements

Compression connectors have little impact on the cost of building a system but are crucial when it comes to signal quality and laboriousness of assembly, whether or not they are used in multiswitch, monitoring or other systems. In particular, the BNC connectors pose problems in CCTV systems. As early as on the system start up, poor quality connectors cause many problems due to the insecure connection. Connectors used outdoors are exposed to corrosion, which in turn can lead to a significant deterioration of the signal quality. Great temperature fluctuations may cause the connector lose its tightness. This is unacceptable, especially in systems of great importance such as bank or city monitoring wiring.

To meet the requirements of modern systems, DIPOL offers BNC compression connectors from MASTER: E8275 for RG-59 cable, E8276 for RG-6 and E8277 for TRISET-113.

Appropriate design and excellent accuracy of MASTER connectors eliminates any problems with installing them on cables. They can be easily screwed on sockets, as well. Properly compressed connections are highly resistant to break, due to dual compression rings that also prevent entering of water from the side of the cables and this way protect the connected devices. The indispensable compression tool is either MASTER E80075 or universal MASTER E80078.

Multimode fiber and 10 Gbps transmission.

Transmission at 10 Gbps is now becoming a standard in office areas, multi-family buildings and even home use. This speed is required not only in the backbone of the network, but also in the direct connection of end stations.

When deciding to use multimode fibers, remember that the ranges for 10 Gbps are limited. The most popular fiber standard MM OM2 enables transmission at a speed of 10 Gbps over a maximum distance of 82 m, i.e. less than copper twisted pair category 6A certified for that speed (100 m according to the 10GBASE-T standard). This is can be really tricky to network designers or contractors who do not pay attention to the fiber standard in the cable used.
