Smartwatch and wristband powered by human body movement.
Scientists at the Chinese University of Hong Kong have developed a compact electromagnetic generator that uses human body movements for powering smart watches. Smart watches and wristbands are the easiest way to constantly monitor one’s health. However, a limited battery life reduces the comfort of the device use. Scientists have long been trying to develop an electromagnetic generator. Unfortunately, insufficient physical intensity during routine activities results in relatively low energy efficiency. A solution to this issue is an electromagnetic generator integrating a coaxial motion capture mechanism, a magnetic frequency converter and an energy generating unit. It has resulted in a fourfold increase in input energy and a tenfold increase in power density. The tests show that the device can achieve a maximum power of 1.74 mW and a power density of 346.61 μW/cm3 at an excitation frequency of 0.65 Hz. Compared to previous works, the energy receiver proposed shows tremendous improvement in both, the output power and power density.
Intelligent image analysis (VCA) in TurboHD DVRs.
The TurboHD Hikvision monitoring systems can handle two types of intelligent events (VCA): crossing a virtual line (along with determining the of movement) and detecting an entry to a zone or remaining in it for a specified time. They can be run in selected analog channels, and their availability and number depends on the specific model. The number of VCA channels depending on the DVR model:
If the number of VCA channels is too small a special extended VCA support mode (Enhanced VCA) can be activated. The number of channels in that mode is determined by the model (n being the number of video inputs):
In the Enhanced VCA mode, more processing power of the CPU is allocated to handling intelligent events at the cost of:
- the resolution of the input signal is reduced to 3 MP,
- the resolution of the output signal is reduced to 1080 p,
- the CVBS input is disabled,
- the Enhanced IP function is disabled.
Activating the second relay of the 2nd gen. IP Villa door/gate station.
The IP Villa DS-KV8X13WME1 door/gate stations are equipped with 2 relays, one of which can be used to control the electric strike of the wicket, and the other one to control the entrance gate or barrier at a housing estate. By default, the second relay is denergized and is not visible in the system. It can be activated when logging in to the gate/door station via a web browser or using iVMS-4200(v3). To do this, after logging in to the door station, go to the Configuration -> Intercom -> Input and output tab, and in the Output tab, select Output 2 and, for the corresponding Input tab, select the type of reaction Electric lock. After that, the second output will be activated and it will become visible in the live view window of the connected monitors and client applications.Activating the second relay of the 2nd gen. TRISET B2CA - halogen-free coaxial cable.
From July 1, 2017 in the EU, all installation cables in buildings are considered to be construction products subject to applicable regulations. The CPR Directive requires manufacturers to develop and make available the Declaration of Performance (DoP), as well as to mark products covered by the relevant CE mark. The EN50575 specifies the requirements for: performance in fire conditions, test and evaluation methods for power, control and telecommunications cables used in buildings with a specific fire resistance class. With the introduction of the common European reaction to fire classes, designers and architects have at hand clear regulations regarding the use of the appropriate types of cables. To achieve increased fire safety levels, the regulations recommend the use of B2CA cables in special buildings that must meet very tight safety requirements (e.g. in hospitals, nurseries, high-rise buildings, office buildings and nursing homes).DIPOL offers the TRISET B2CA E1020_500 coaxial cable that meets the legally required standards of fire resistance class. The cable has a LSOH sheath (halogen-free insulation). In the event of a fire, the cable does not spread flame, smoke emission is very low and the released gases are not corrosive.
TRISET B2CA with the LSOH sheath has an inner cooper conductor with a diameter of 1.05 mm and triple shield (Al/PET/SY foil (first) bonded to the dielectric + 82% density braid + Al/PET foil (second) boded to the sheath).
Key features:
- complies with A++ class requirements
- reaction to fire class acc. to CPR - B2ca-s1a,d1,a1
- 1.05 mm copper core
- low loss
- high screening efficiency
- 82% braid coverage
- 5-year warranty
- LSOH cable
Fiber optic CCTV system – serial topology.
One of the questions most frequently asked by installers is the one about the possibility of connecting several camera points (poles) with one fiber optic cable. It is possible, but it should the choice of more experienced installers, equipped with the appropriate tools. The cable that is run through the points has to have an adequate number of fibers - at least 2 fibers for each point. For example, 5 poles will need at least 10 fibers, so the application of a 12J cable (with12 fibers), or, for redundancy, a 16J or 24J cable. However, an excessive redundancy is not recommended as it will cause unnecessary effort.
One of the options to run a multi-fiber cable through the camera point is to cut it on the pole, separate two fibers for connecting the local transmission device and splice the rest of the fibers led to the next pole. This leads to the following conclusions:
- the higher number of redundant fibers, the more extra work is needed, as the installer should splice all the fibers,
- on the first pole, the installer has to splice all fibers,
- on the last pole, the installer has to splice only the fibers connecting the point.
Splicing scheme for 12J cable and five CCTV poles - total of 38 splices
The approach that involves cutting the fibers to splice them may turn out to be pointless, but many installers with fast and professional splicers choose this option as it is independent of the cable structure. The cable is simply cut and the fibers are spliced with no attention to its reinforcement, the central tube diameter and whether it is present at all. Moreover, this allows for the use of most of the fiber optic joint boxes available on the market.
Installers who opt not to cut and splice the fibers can choose a method that requires a little more experience. With the MSAT-5 L5925 tool, it is possible to make an incision in the optical fiber tube, and then take the fibers selected out for a given camera point and splice them with pigtails. The other fibers then remain intact. Note, however, that this method may not work with every type of fiber optic cable. Find out more in our Library.
