No. 31/2020 (Oct. 5, 2020)

Back to the moon.

The space agency NASA has released plans for the Artemis program to begin next year. If things go as planned, the final project will be landing of astronauts on the moon in 2024.
Man's return to the moon will cost $28 billion, $16 billion of which is the cost of the lunar lander. The last man, John Young, walked on the moon on April 20, 1972, the first was Neil Armstrong on July 21, 1969. The astronauts will travel in a spacecraft called Orion which will be launched on the Space Launch System - SLS rocket. The lander Orion is being developed in collaboration with Boeing.
The Orion spacecraft will be launched with the SLS under the Artemis I mission.
The operation under the Artemis I program has been scheduled for November 2021, and it will be an unmanned flight to test the SLS carrier system and the spacecraft alone. The Artemis II mission will fly with the crew on board in 2023, and the astronauts will go around the moon. Only in 2024, during the Artemis III mission, will the astronauts land on the Silver Globe and, more precisely, on its South Pole where they will stay for a week.

Camera measuring distance between people.

Keeping a safe distance between people is one of the best practices to avoid COVID-19 infection and to inhibit its spread. In locations where crowds are unavoidable, including supermarket checkouts or ticket kiosks at public transport hubs, managing the distance between queening people is of critical importance. It is a tough challenge that those who manage public space must face.
Hikvision cameras with two lenses, e.g. DS-2CD6825G0/C-IS K01764, allow you to verify compliance with the social distancing rules. They use stereoscopic 3D vision and Deep Learning algorithms, thus achieving extremely high accuracy. The system administrator can set the minimum distances between people. When it shortens below the set limit, an alarm, e.g. in the client software, or a signal at the alarm output will be activated.

Configuration of TERRA digital DVB-T modulators using a mobile app.

TERRA MHD001P R86103 and MHD002P digital modulators R86104 can be configured via the Google Chrome web browser (for Android and Windows) and WebBLE GreenParkSoftware application (for iOS – paid). Pairing and establishing communication between devices (smartphone, tablet, laptop) and the modulator is wireless via Bluetooth. To enable Bluetooth wireless communication of the modulators hold the "+" and "-" buttons simultaneously pressed, on plugging in to the 230 VAC wall outlet, until the green LED starts blinking. Then run the Google Chrome browser and enter the address: mhd.mydtv.live. TERRA modulators can also be configured in a standard way using the "+" and "-" buttons and the display under the enclosure.

HDMI modulators are perfect for hospitals, stores, shopping malls, supermarkets, and electronics stores where content from one or two sources is delivered to multiple TV receivers. The important applications of the devices include also important applications in surveillance systems integrated with SMATV networks; they may be used to transmit DVR signals (more than ten camera-captured images) to all the terminal outlets. Digital modulators that do not support the HDCP protocol are employed, for instance, in surveillance systems to introduce the camera signal into the SMATV system.

Basics of IP addressing – part 2.

In the previous Weekly Review issue the IP address was discussed. Another important parameter is the mask. The subnet mask (for IPv4), as the IP address version 4, is a 32-bit number (for IPv6 it has 128 bits). The mask is used to distinguish the subnet part of the IP address, as well as the part that is the host address of that subnet. The subnet mask has a very specific structure. It begins with a sequence of ones and then turns into a string of zeros – the part with ones is the network part of the mask, while the string of zeros is the so-called host part.
For the IPv4, it is most commonly written in a form of four 8-bit numbers in decimal format and separated by periods (for example 255.255.255.0). The mask value has to be known to all routers and computers in a given subnet. As a result of comparing the address mask (e.g. 255.255.255.0) with a specific IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.122), the router is notified which part of the address identifies the subnet (in this case 192.168.1.), and which refers to the device with that IP address assigned (address ending: .122).
The table below compiles information on the subnet mask size (the number of bits in the network-related part of the address), and the corresponding number of available IP addresses within a given subnet. Note! The number of hosts is lower by 2 than that of the IP addresses allocated to a given subnet (2 addresses are occupied by the so-called network address and the broadcast address for a given network).

The built-in 256 MB memory in each of the monitors allows for recording photos, messages, as well as for leaving information in the absence of residents. The application Hik-Connect is dedicated for a smartphone control. For configuration and operation with a PC, the client application iVMS-4200 is available.

Splicing programs in Signal Fire splicers.

Installers often ask if Signal Fire AI-8C L5870 and AI-9 L5875 splicers are capable of joining fibers of different standards: G.652D, G.657A1, G.657A2, G.657B3 or OM2, OM3, OM4 etc.
Signal Fire fusion splicers offer three splicing programs: SM (single-mode), MM (multi-mode) and Auto (automated). Using a single program, say SM, you can splice single-mode fibers of any standard; practice shows that the splicer works equally well with fibers of the same and of different kinds (e.g. G.652D with G.657A2). Similarly, the MM program allows to join two multi-mode fibers together. This is very convenient; the parameters of the resultant splice may, but to not have to, be poorer.

Fusion Splicer: Signal Fire AI-9 (with toolbox and tools)
Signal Fire AI-8C L5870 and AI-9 L5875 splicers join optical fibers
of different standards. What is important, to connect different types of optical fiber cables (single-mode and multi-mode), incompatibility of the fibers will be signaled.
More expensive models of fiber optic splicers from other manufacturers may have individual programs dedicated to specific fiber standards. However, as the installer’s practice shows, using them does not affect, or has a minimal beneficial effect on, the splicing. For that reason, most users opt for the fast automatic mode anyway.
