The world's first all-optical data encryption technology.
BGN Technologies, a technology transfer company based at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, has developed what it hails as a new technology for the optical encryption of signals transmitted via optical fibers. Today, optical data is encrypted using digital methods, which requires large computing power and creates transmission lags. Even though largely secure, the technique does involve a certain risk of information theft or snooping, and the data can be decrypted with powerful computers. The new technology provides a new method of optical encryption, transmission, and decryption that eliminates that threat. The solution is to use not one, but many wavelengths for optical transmission, which allows to create a number of "weaker" data streams. The technique also employs a phase mask to change the phase of each wavelength. The streams are transmitted in a sequence determined by the encryption key.
The innovative breakthrough of the solution is that once it goes through the encryption device, the data looks like mere noise and cannot be read or stolen by a third party. With traditional encryption methods, it is only a matter of time before the key is broken and the data decrypted. The transmitting party, in a sense, destroys data coherence and integrity, at least from the perspective of third parties.
The Israeli scientists claim that even if the optically encrypted signal is successfully separated from the noise, its decryption could take several years. This means that the method will be ideal for sensitive cloud computing and data center transmission, and is likely to be used primarily for the transmission of financial, military or medical data.
New IP camera series: Hikvision ColorVu.
Commonly used in low-light conditions, IR illuminators strip the image of colors, which is essential for data analysis and the recognition of people and vehicles. To address this problem, Hikvision has introduced a new camera series, ColorVu, which can monitor the scene in color mode around the clock. The series relies on lenses with an aperture of F1.0, which let in four times more light than traditional F2.0 cameras. 4 MP cameras have a 1/1.8" Progressive Scan CMOS sensor, equipped with cutting-edge solutions, such as Backside Illumination (BSI), Dual Conversion Gain (DCG), and WDR to ensure bright, color footage in almost any lighting conditions. The cameras also have a white-light LED illuminator with a color temperature of 3000 K, which can switch on automatically in ultra low-light conditions to ensure good-quality video (the option can be disabled in the menu).
DVB-S/S2 transmodulators.
Transmodulators, which convert DVB-S/S2 signals to DVB-T COFDM are a popular solution used in many hotels. Satellite channels can be used to round out the selection of terrestrial channles or as the only source of TV entertainment. The DVB-T COFDM output signal is typically delivered to terminal devices with the use of splitters / taps.Terra TDX-420C R81619 DVB-S/S2 to DVB-T transmodulator is used for the reception of DVB-S/S2 (8PSK/QPSK) signals, the selection of desired channels, and their retransmission in a COFDM format. The device allows the user to receive and manage a range of free to air and encrypted satellite channels (CI/CAM compatibility). One TDX-420C R81619 panel can receive channels from two satellite transponders and convert them into two neighboring DVB-T multiplexes with the maximum throughput of 31.68 Mbps. In practice, each multiplex can carry 6 SD channels or 2-3 HD channels. The administrator of the system selects the required channels from the satellite streams and forms two DVB-T multiplexes. Alternatively, one DVB-T multiplex can be programmed from channels coming from two different satellite transponders, and then the paid channels can be decoded for the newly created multiplex. For the distribution of unencrypted signals, use the TDX-420 R81618 model.
An example of a TV installation.
An SRM-522 R80522 multiswitch enables the reception of satellite channels from the whole Ku band (11.7 to 12.75 GHz), with a single cable used to feed the signal into the transmodulator.

How to export camera footage to the cloud server?
Hikvision's NVRs can send short videos directly from the camera to the cloud. These are generated in the form of secondary stream recordings when an event is detected, and their length will depend on the preset pre- and post-alarm times. The following events are supported:- motion detection,
- video tampering,
- video loss,
- VCA.
They can be uploaded to popular cloud storage services:
- OneDrive,
- GoogleDrive,
- DropBox.
Cloud storage is not the same as NVR recording, but a way to create an additional back-up of the most important data, which can be easily viewed remotely.
Direct access cables buried in the ground.
DACs, or Direct Access Cables, can be buried in the ground without any extra casing pipes. This will expose them to adverse external factors: the freezing and thawing of the soil, regular shocks caused e.g. by car traffic, the percolation of rainwater into the ground, etc. DACs have a sheath made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which makes them rigid and very resistant to mechanical damage (boasting a crush resistance of 4000 N). Two FRP rods with a diameter of 0.9 mm further additionally reinforce the cables for extra protection against breaking. DACs also have a Water Block (WB) design to block the longitudinal flow of water inside the cable.Read more about this and other fiber optic cable types in our Fiber optic cables guide.
Installing a GSM repeater.
The Signal GSM-1205 A6785 repeater is designed to amplify GSM signals and deliver them indoors. The device is ideal for locations where the GSM signal is too weak to enable cellphone use. These include remote spots (far away from base stations) or buildings with thick walls, basements (e.g. coffeeshops), and modern windows with panes laced with metallic compounds.Installation guide on the example of GSM-1205 A6785:
- find an outdoor location with a good GSM signal (900 MHz),
- mount the outdoor antenna (usually A741030) so that it faces the GSM base station,
- install the repeater so that the indoor antenna is fixed in the central part of the building/hall/room to be covered,
- make sure that the distance between the outdoor and the indoor antenna is greater than 10 m,
- install the Signal GSM-1205 repeater away from sources of heat and ensure natural ventilation,
- make sure that the antennas are connected to the dedicated, marked sockets,
- connect a suitable power supply (N93320) to a 230 VAC power source.
Application of a GSM repeater in a single-family house
AC/DC Adapter: 9 VDC, 3A (2.1/5.5 mm) WT48-0903000-T N93320 is intended for GSM amplifiers/repeaters ( A6765, A6775, A6785). It comes with 1m-long cable with a 2.1/5.5 mm plug ("+" in the midpoint). The housing of the unit is made of high quality plastic. The device has been designed for indoor use only.
CAT 7 S/FTP Shielded Cable: NETSET BOX S/FTP CAT 7 E1626_500 is a high-quality cable designed for professional indoor data transmission systems. Made of braid and foil, the shielding allows to minimize crosstalk and interference with the external environment.
Compact DVB-S/S2 to DVB-C Headend: Terra S3C32WB R81635 is a 32-channel transmodulator with DVB-S/S2 (8PSK/QPSK) input and DVB-C (QAM) output. The device is designed for the distribution of uncoded (FTA) and coded (BISS) channels. Each of its 32 transmodulators receives signals from a whole satellite transponder (more than ten TV channels) and forms the corresponding DVB-C multiplex.
