Samsung files patent for completely wireless TV.

The Korean Samsung company is constantly expanding its range of televisions. The new models of TVs are getting thinner and sleeker, however, until now there has been a problem with cables. They could be hidden in walls, which is often troublesome, or masked in other way. The Ethernet cable can be easily eliminated by using a Wi-Fi connection, but the power cable seems to be indispensable.

Samsung has filed a patent for a television that does not have any connecting cables. From the patent application that appeared in the web, it can be concluded that it is an inductive charging, as in the case of smartphones, but modified so that the energy can be transmitted over a longer distance. The TV set would be equipped with a special station connected to the AC power network, mounted, for example, on the wall. The energy would be transmitted through magnetic field to the television equipped with coils and suitable magnetic elements. The idea is certainly interesting, but currently it is only a patent. We should certainly wait for some time for a solution of this type, if it goes into mass production at all.

We know the World Champion in crimping MASTER connectors!

During the International Trade Show of Electric Fittings and Security Systems ELECTRICITY 2019 in Warsaw, DIPOL company organized a 3-day Championship in Crimping MASTER Connectors. The participants had to prepare the Triset-113 cable and terminate it with the BNC compression connector in the shortest time possible, using professional Master tools. Although every contender who had performed the task below a certain time limit received a prize, the winner could only be one. From among a hundred of the interested professional and amateur installers from around the world, the best and outstanding result of 14.15 second was achieved by Mr. Piotr from Jupima.pl. During the award ceremony, the winner received the DIPOL World Cup and a set of Master tools. Congratulations to the Champion and all participants of the tournament! We assure all installers that this is just the beginning of the competition!

Codec optimized for video surveillance systems: H.265+.

H.265+ is the most eficient video compression method implemented in Hikvision devices. The method is based on adaptive image encoding with excellent performance while maintaining high image quality. On average, the generated data is only half of that provided by the H.265 standard. The result has been achieved by the use of special techniques:
  • motion prediction: different encoding used for moving objects isolated from a static background;
  • decrease of encoding noise: the background is encoded with other parameters than the moving objects, which reduces noise and bit rate;
  • long-term planning of the bitrate: the codec "learns" the monitored scene and adjusts the instantaneous coding parameters to the current changes in the image - in the case of highly dynamic scenes, the momentary bit rate increases significantly (the bit rate of H.265+ encoding is given as an average value, not a maximum, so the temporary fluctuations can be very large).
Bit rate in H.265 (limited by Max. Bitrate) and H.265+ systems
In the case of H.265+, the optimization concerns the average value in a longer period of time

Injecting signals from IP cameras into shared antenna/(S)MATV systems.

IP cameras do not generate video signals but data streams. The information cannot be distributed to televisions with the use of typical modulation methods employed in the case of analog cameras. The injection of the video information from IP CCTV cameras into an RF distribution network (a private or shared antenna system, (S)MATV/CATV network etc.) requires application of intermediate devices.
So far, the most popular solution has been based on digital HDMI - DVB-T modulators. The HDMI signal carrying the video information from one or a number of IP cameras is available on the monitor output of the IP NVR in the IP CCTV system. In the case of one HDMI signal, it is sufficient to use a single-channel DVB-T modulator. In systems with up to four IP cameras providing video and sound information, installers can use multi-channel modulators. However, when the investor wants to have separate images from the cameras, the number of the channels is limited by the number of independent HDMI outputs in the NVR(s). And what about the situation when the number of the IP cameras that should independently provide the video and sound information is much higher, e.g. 12?
In such a case, DIPOL offers IP (100/1000 Mbps) to 4x DVB-T transmodulator mix-440 R81611. The device can convert the RTSP streams from IP cameras to DVB-T COFDM standard. This functionality enables the addition of information from IP cameras, encoded in H.264 or H.265 standard, into TV distribution systems, without a need for other devices (NVRs and DVB-T modulators).

A multiswitch SMATV system distributing satellite, terrestrial and IP CCTV signals
The SMATV system shown above distributes signals from one satellite (Hotbird 13.0E), DVB-T broadcasts in the VHF and UHF bands, FM radio stations, and images from IP CCTV cameras. The antenna array consists of 80 cm sat dish TRIAX 80 TD A9642 with quatro LNB A98257, DIPOL 19/21-60 DVB-T UHF antenna A1911, DIPOL 7/5-12 TV antenna A0710, FM antenna A0221. The levels of the DVB-T multiplexes received in the UHF band are equalized by the at440 R82511 channel amplifier. Before combining into the multiswitch system, the DVB-T signals from the VHF and UHF bands and the FM broadcasts are amplified by the ma400 R82520 amplifier. The SMATV system is base on TERRA MV-5xx multiswitches. The 5-cable bus is split into the staircase subnetworks with the use of the SD-5xx taps, and the signals for the end users are provided by the MV-508 R70708 multiswitches.

Image analytics in IP CCTV systems.

Video surveillance systems are developing very dynamically. Several years ago, motion detection was practically the only alarm event used for streamlining the management and operation of CCTV systems. Nowadays, IP cameras offer advanced image analytics to facilitate the recording, classification and searching of important events. The examples include license plate detection/recognition, facial detection, detection of crossing a virtual line and/or intrusion into a defined area, detection of emerging and disappearing objects in a given zone. The use of such solutions makes it unnecessary to spend hours searching a lot of recordings. The advanced functions can minimize the volume of the recordings as well as can make the searching process much easier and quicker.
The diagram below presents a scheme of IP CCTV system based on Hikvision IP cameras of Easy IP 3.0 series and Hikvision DS-7608NI-K2 K22074 NVR with H.265 video compression. A number of intelligent functions available in the cameras and supported by the NVR allow for creating a system where the searching for recordings will be very quick.

The cameras deployed around the building cover the whole area. The recording is triggered by alarm events in the form of motion detection, detection of intrusions into defined areas, detection of crossings of virtual lines. The detection areas have been defined in the cameras directed towards the gateway and gate. In addition, the entire area around the house has been covered with virtual lines. The detected direction of crossing the lines is from the fence towards the house.
The searching for recordings can be focused on the event that the user is interested in. If there is a suspicion that a person has come through the gate or gateway, the search option should use the detection of intrusion into the inner area. If someone could jump over the fence crossing a virtual line, it can be quickly found by searching the recordings using this attribute. The last but always important method is to search for recordings using motion detection. This will allow the user to quickly search for any incidents, with minimized number of false alarms.
The cameras and NVR support ANR function, which ensures video recording on the memory cards inserted into the cameras in the event of network problems, and synchronization of the recordings with the NVR after restoring the communication. Both the cameras and NVR support H.265 video compression, so that the recordings can be stored two times longer than in the case of H.264, with the same disk capacity.

GSM repeater in a single-family home.

There are places where mobile phones can be used without problems outdoors, but the signal strength/quality is insufficient for indoor operation. Such locations include some remote places (long distances to base stations), but more often rooms in old buildings with thick walls or in basements and cellars (e.g. pubs, coffee shops). In the case of a house with such problems, the owner can use the Signal GSM-305 A6765 amplifier/repeater.
The device amplifies and distributes GSM signal inside the house, using the outdoor antenna directed towards the suitable base station and indoor antenna cooperating with the cellular phone.

Optical fiber fault verification/location.

Tests of optical links require a bit more advanced tools than in the case of copper cabling. When the devices on both sides of a link work properly, but the connection fails, it must be a fault in the transmission medium.
There are three methods of testing optical lines:
The first of them is to use an optical time-domain reflectometer. Such an optoelectronic instrument is able to measure practically all parameters of the fiber and precisely indicate the distance to the fault. It is enough to get there, cut and replace the damaged fragment. However, reflectometers are expensive and usually not available for field installers...

Time-domain optical reflectometer GRANDWAY FHO3000-D26 L5828
The second, less accurate way, is to measure the fiber attenuation with an optical power meter and a stable light source - it can confirm a failure, but will not indicate the location of the problem. The method is especially effective in the case of shorter links that can be easily replaced with new ones.
Optical Laser Source GRANDWAY FHS1D02 (1310nm/1550nm)
The third method is based on the application of a visual fault locator. It provides very good results when the technician has physical access to the cable along its entire length. It is easy to locate a fault on the basis of a "leakage" of light. The applicability of this method depends on the thickness of the cable. In the case of fibers with 0.9 mm buffer, the damages are typically visible even through layers of 3 mm thickness. The VFL L5935 locator is designed to test single-mode and multimode fiber-optic cables. The output power is sufficient to check even 5 km long links.

Which DVB-T amplifiers should be used in multiswitch systems with passive terrestrial paths? The purpose of broadband amplifiers in multiswitch installations is to amplify terrestrial signals so that to compensate the attenuation of the distribution networks caused by splitters, taps, cables and antenna outlets. They have one broadband input or several band inputs with adjustable gain for individual bands. Depending on the model, they are equipped with built-in power supplies or are powered via the coaxial cable that transmits the amplified signals. Usually they can compensate the influence of the frequency characteristics of cable lines on the output signal levels in subscriber outlets. They are characterized by a high maximum output level of over 100 dBμV... >>>more
