New modulation will improve the data transmission speed in long-range optical cables.

A team of scientists from the American company Infinera conducted an experimental data transfer via the transatlantic fiber optic cable Marea. Originally, the designers of the transatlantic link assumed that the cable could transmit data at rates up to 20 TBps per fiber pair. The researchers have proven that it is possible to send data faster. After applying their own modulation variant, 16 QAM, they achieved a record data transfer rate of 26.2 TBps This speed is already close to the maximum theoretical value for the optical fiber, resulting from the Shannon limit. The use of the new method requires the installation of special superfast light modulators, but the rest of the installation does not change. Such modernization is therefore not very expensive.

The Marea fiber optic cable has been laid at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean at the request of Facebook and Microsoft by Telxius telecommunications company. The purpose is to provide a reliable connection between Europe and the USA. The service was launched in 2018 and so far it provides the fastest transatlantic connection. The cable is composed of eight pairs of optical fibers, which altogether allow for data transfer rate up to 160 TBps. Thanks to the latest Infiniera achievement, the data transfer rate can be exceeded up to 200 TBps.
According to TeleGeography, there are 378 telecommunications cables connecting different continents on the seabed. Their bandwidth is too small in relation to constantly growing needs, especially due to the increased popularity of all types of cloud and video streaming services. The construction of new connections and the increase of capacity of the existing solutions improves the comfort of using various network services.

Satellite and terrestrial TV signals over single coax.

To use two satellite receivers or the function of simultaneous recording and watching two different channels provided by a PVR (Personal Video Recorder), it is necessary to have two independent SAT signals. Individual satellite installations with a SINGLE type LNB installed several or more years ago cannot provide such a functionality.
The adaptation of an older SAT TV installation for the use of two receivers or a PVR requires the change of the SINGLE-type LNB for a TWIN LNB. The additional output of the TWIN LNB has to be connected to the second receiver or the second input of the PVR via another coaxial cable.
It happens that the installation of the second cable could be very troublesome. In this case, a good alternative is the application of the R85261 Johansson multi-band converter kit. The kit combines two independent satellite signals and terrestrial FM/DAB/TV broadcasts into one coaxial cable. It is an ideal solution for everyone who wants to replace their simple SAT receiver with a PVR (with two IF inputs), or use another, independent DVB-S/S2 receiver, without a need of installing another coaxial cable.

Applications for the configuration of Hikvision IP video door phones.

Hikvision IP video door phones/intercoms can be configured with the use of the iVMS-4200 or Batch Configuration application. Before starting the configuration, the devices have to be activated by giving them a password and setting IP addresses. Then, the used should add the devices to one of the applications and go to remote settings. The iVMS-4200 client application also allows for operation of the video door system, including remote preview of the video from the gate/door station, remote opening, sending messages etc. The Batch Configuration is a lightweight and simple app for quick activating, configuring, updating, or resetting the devices.

Network equipment responsible for the transmission of data in companies is usually a major investment. Financial aspects also include any losses that could be caused by the failure of the ICT systems during everyday operations. Special efforts are required to minimize the risk of damage to the servers.

How to protect devices against the effects of overvoltages in large CCTV systems?

In installations with long outdoor sections of copper cables, the greatest hazards are surges/overvoltages arising from atmospheric discharges. They usually occur in the video signal lines (twisted pair or coaxial cables). The CCTV systems can be protected by using specially designed surge protectors.
