Are you interested in the weather on Mars?
NASA has reported that the unmanned InSight lander sent to Mars landed close to the equator and now is operating under Martian winter conditions (it is the time when storms become more active). The daily weather information from the Elysium Planitia volcanic plain on Mars has been provided since February 11 and it contains data on air temperature, wind speed and atmosphere pressure.To collect all that information, InSight has been equipped with a set of sensors developed by NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Cornell University, and the Spanish Centro de Astrobiología. The entire Auxiliary Payload Subsystem (APSS) consists of several sensors measuring a number of weather parameters. It collects data every second of every Martian day (one Martian day is only a little longer than the Earth's day: 24 hours, 39 minutes and 35 seconds).
The APSS consists of an air pressure sensor located inside the lander, a pair of sensors for measuring temperature and wind called TWINS, located on the opposite sides of the top surface of the lander, and a magnetometer (the first one ever reaching the surface of another planet). One of the TWINS sensors is directed to the east and the second to the west. InSight transmits daily weather reports and scientists hope to investigate seasonal variations of the atmosphere conditions on Mars.
Researchers want to examine what conditions are conducive to the formation of sandstorms and dunes. The APSS system will also help the mission team learn more about dust devils (vortices of low pressure) that have left characteristic streaks on the surface of the planet.
Which DVB-T amplifiers should be used in multiswitch systems with passive terrestrial paths?
The purpose of broadband amplifiers in multiswitch installations is to amplify terrestrial signals so that to compensate the attenuation of the distribution networks caused by splitters, taps, cables and antenna outlets. They have one broadband input or several band inputs with adjustable gain for individual bands. Depending on the model, they are equipped with built-in power supplies or are powered via the coaxial cable that transmits the amplified signals. Usually they can compensate the influence of the frequency characteristics of cable lines on the output signal levels in subscriber outlets. They are characterized by a high maximum output level of over 100 dBμV.Signal MRP multiswitches have passive terrestrial paths, so we recommend to employ antenna preamplifiers or amplifiers that will compensate the attenuation of the paths (12-15 dB) and other passive elements in the distribution networks (cables, connectors, outlets). When selecting a pre/amplifier, it is necessary to take into account signal levels from terrestrial transmitters in the area (depending on their power, distance, obstacles, antenna(s) gain).
The model should be chosen depending on the local needs (required bands or frequency range, gain, output level).

Turbo HD 4.0 DVRs – fully hybrid solutions.
The firmware upgrade V4.x (links available on the product pages) of Hikvision Turbo HD 4.0 (HD-TVI 4.0) analog DVRs provides the possibility to use them in hybrid mode. Each analog channel can be switched off and replaced by IP channel. The maximum number of IP channels depends on the series and model:Series | 71 HQHI | 72 HQHI | 72 HUHI | 73 HQHI | 72 HUHI |
04 | 5 (4 MP) | 5 (4 MP) | 6 (6 MP)

16 | 18 (4 MP) | 18 (4 MP) | 18 (6 MP)
24 | 32 (6 MP) | 6 (6 MP) | |||
32 | 40 (6 MP) | 6 (6 MP) |
The hybrid functionality is available in all TurboHD 4.0 DVRs, also those with PoC ports. The PoC solution allows for connecting each PoE IP camera via single UTP cable. A mixed monitoring system with analog and IP cameras (powered from PoC ports of the DVR and PoE ports of the network switch) is shown in the diagram below.

- optimizing detection parameters with the help of relevant information displayed in real time,
- displaying additional bar with motion detection, next to the playback bar of continuous recording,
- using smart function in the NVR, allowing for quick search of interesting fragments.
Depending on the options activated in the camera, the range of functions includes:
- Enabling rules: Configuration -> Local -> Rules
- Switching on Dual-VCA: Configuration -> Video/Audio -> Display Info. on Stream -> Enable Dual-VCA,
- Switching on Dynamic Analysis for Motion: Configuration -> Event -> Basic Event -> Motion Detection -> Enable Dynamic Analysis for Motion (it is also necessary to enable motion detection and draw a motion detection area).
If all the above-mentioned options are active, then after logging in to the camera via a web browser or from the NVR, the user will see in the real-time video the squares symbolizing places with motion detected in the previously drawn detection area. This allows the user to analyze how motion is being detected at various distances from the camera and to set the required sensitivity of the detection. Below there is an example of how the hand movements are detected at the same distance from the camera, but at detection levels of 20% and 80%.
The green squares mark motion detection points
in the selected area, at different detection levels
In the case of continuous recording set on the NVR, an additional bar appears under the progress bar, with marked motion detection events. The continuous recording mode guarantees complete video coverage, whereas the marked motion detection events allow the user to quickly filter out periods with these specific events. The user can also employ smart search function just by selecting the required detection area. After defining the area, the detection bar will show only recordings that meet this criterion.
Turning off the rules will cause that the squares that symbolize motion detection will not be displayed by a web browser in live view. After disabling Dual-VCA, the additional information will not be added to the video stream, and smart search will not be possible on the NVR. However, with active dynamic motion analysis, the markings of detected motion events will be displayed under the progress bar.
10 Gbps in one optical fiber.
Internet service providers building their networks in larger areas or leasing the infrastructure of larger operators have to use the available fibers as effectively as possible. SFP modules using one fiber for two-way communication are a good choice for such applications.Single-mode SFP+ Ultimode 10 Gbps 20 km BiDi (WDM) modules
The 10 Gbps data transfer rate has become a standard for backbone connections even in the case of smaller operators. The Ultimode L1430 and L1432 SFP+ modules are used to create such single-mode links via single optical fibers. The modules operate at 1270 nm and 1330 nm wavelengths, i.e. in the second transmission window that is safest in terms of any installation imperfections (poor quality splices, fiber bends, etc.).
