Flexible sensors in medical applications.
Japanese scientists have developed a series of thin and flexible sensors that have a built-in solar cell and can be placed on the body. Their task is to monitor the work of a given organ. The sensor is a combination of a measuring device called an organic electrochemical transistor and a flexible solar cell, developed to power the wearable electronics. The important element of the system is an organic solar cell that provides stable and interference-free supply voltage. The cell is composed of a special layer absorbing solar radiation, made as a polymer nano-grid. The arrangement and appropriate selection of polymers make the cell highly efficient - not much significantly worse than in the case of the much heavier silicon cells and nearly independent from the angle of incidence of sunlight. For light falling below an angle of 60 degrees, the energy conversion efficiency is increased by 45% compared to polymer cells without such a nano-grid.
View of the heart rate sensor placed on a finger
The researchers presented a working heart monitor that is thin, flexible, and transparent. For proper operation, it requires 10,000 lux lighting, which is normal on a bright day in a shady place. The scientists were surprised by the low level of power disturbances, which may result from the lack of electric wires.
The applications of such sensors in medicine, where it is often required to continuously measure parameters of various parts of the body, seem obvious. However, for the device to gain practical use, it is necessary to create flexible batteries that will allow for operation in the absence of lighting. The researchers also hope to improve the data transmission system. The current uses silicon circuitry, so it consumes a lot of energy compared to the rest of the device.
20 years of DIPOL Weekly Review!
Two decades have passed since the first issue of the DIPOL's weekly newsletter. For 20 years we have been introducing readers to issues related to antenna, CCTV, network and multimedia systems, describing new technologies, presenting solutions to problems and practical examples of installations. The online edition of our weekly is translated into 6 languages and sent to 23,000 readers. We thank all our subscribers!TERRA digital HDMI to DVB-T modulator.
Digital modulators can be classified in several ways, beginning with the fact of supporting or not supporting the HDCP protocol, the kind of digitally modulated RF signals (in DVB-T or DVB-C standard), the application of single-channel or multi-channel circuitry, a capability of operation within the whole available frequency range or only in limited bands, and ending with more detailed features, such as various kinds of inputs, housings, mounting methods. Our range of digital modulators have been extended with a compact TERRA MHD001P HDMI-COFDM (DVB-T) modulator supporting HDCP protocol. The device featuring the highest quality characteristic for products of that company is attractively priced, and its small size allows for easy implementation in any installation.

The Signal WS-8901U R86201 and Signal ST-6504 R86804 modulators are dedicated for S/MATV systems. By mounting the devices in RACK cabinets, the installer ensures high levels of aesthetics and physical security. The WS-8901U R86201 model is a single-channel device, the ST-6504 R86804 can convert four HDMI signals into a DVB-T multiplex carrying four corresponding digital RF channels. The both models support HDCP protocol.
Kidde detectors for carbon monoxide and smoke.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a highly toxic, colorless and odorless gas, lighter than air and easily mixing and spreading with it. The gas is produced in the processes of incomplete combustion of natural gas, liquid and solid fuels, due to insufficient amount of oxygen. Such situations may occur in homes and other facilities especially in winter, when the residents/users close tightly windows to prevent heat escape. CO accumulates in the body, which means that long-term inhalation of low concentrations can cause symptoms hazardous to health and life. So, the Kidde detectors, in compliance with EN 50291-1: 2010 standard, monitor both temporary and long-term concentrations of the poisonous gas:- 30 PPM - alarm after 120 minutes
- 50 PPM - alarm between 60-90 minutes
- 100 PPM - alarm between 10-40 minutes
- 300 PPM - alarm within 3 minutes
Kidde detectors have certificates of compliance with EN 50291-1: 2010 for home CO detectors. Some of the detectors are also compliant with EN 50291-2: 2010, so they are suitable for applications in trailers, campers or on boats. The compliance with these standards has been confirmed by an independent research unit - British Standard Institute (BSI).
It is very important to protect homes against the fatal risk, especially in fall and winter. DIPOL offers both carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, as well as combination devices. CO detectors with LCD displays have more diagnostic and information options. The offer includes 5CO G9583 detectors (without display), 5DCO G9985 detectors (with display) powered by three AA 1.5 V batteries and with 7-year lifespan of their sensors from the moment of activation. The 7DCO G9587 detector is also powered by three AA 1.5 V and has the lifespan extended to 10 years. The 10LLDCO G9589 detector with LCD display has built-in battery with service life identical with the lifespan of the sensor (10 years). The offer is complemented by thei9040EU G9591 smoke detector, plus the 10SCO G9995 combination CO and smoke detector, powered from 9 V batteries, with sensor lifespans of 3 and 10 years, respectively. The devices automatically alert users of the need to change the batteries. Each of the detectors has to be replaced by a new one after the end of the operational life of the sensor.
New method of independent password reset in Hikvision devices.
The password reset methods have been extended with a new, user-friendly procedure, which is successively introduced to new versions of the software. If this feature is available, a field with the place for an email address appears. The address, that should be set up during device activation or user management operations, will be used for providing the code resetting the password. The configuration of the function and the process of password recovery are carried out from the local menu or remotely - through the browser. If you have forgotten the password, click "Forgot password" and, in the next window, select verification by email. The next window will display a QR code, which you should scan with a smartphone running the Hik-Connect application (select the "Reset device password" option from the main menu). Before 5 minutes go by, you should receive the password reset code on the setup email address. Keep in mind that the code is valid for 24 hours or until the device is restarted. Enter the code in the window where the QR code popped out. If it is correct, you can set a new login password.
Alternatively, instead of using Hik-Connect, you can send the QR code to pwr_recovery@hikvision.com email address.
The previous methods of password reset are still available:
- generating file or key resetting the password through SADP application - it is necessary to contact the manufacturer,
- generating a special GUID file containing encrypted login data for the administrator account. If you forget your login details, this file allows you to reset the password yourself (without contacting the manufacturer which is needed in the case of password reset by SADP). The GUID file can be stored on a computer or a memory stick,
Restoring access to a Hikvision device through GUID verification
- giving proper answers to security questions. When configuring this security setting, select 3 security questions from the drop-down list and enter the answers. Correct answers during logging to the device will allow you to reset the password.
Main features of PoE technology:
- transmission of power and data via a single cable reduces wiring and installation costs
- range at least of 100 m (with appropriate cabling)
- high security and and reliability - in typical conditions the risk of electric shock is not high (the voltage is below 60 V) and the technology involves auto-testing procedures
- protection of devices not compliant with the standard
- ease of installation
An example of using the ULTIPOWER 0288af N29983 managed PoE switch
The ULTIPOWER 0288af PoE switch is a standalone device that ensures smooth connectivity in 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet networks. It has 8x RJ45 10/100 Mbps PoE ports supporting Auto-Negotiation function, RJ45 1000 Mbps port for connecting to access network and 2x SFP 1000 Mbps ports allowing for integration with optical networks. The 8 PoE ports automatically detect PD devices compliant with IEEE 802.3af standard and provide them with power supply. This feature allows the user to expand the network coverage in areas where there is no access to AC power lines/outlets and to employ access points, IP cameras, IP phones, etc. The SFP ports, after installing SFT modules, allow for long range transmission via optical links.
Fiber optic subscriber lines - installation of a distribution frame/box.
Due to an increased use of RACK cabinets in multi-dwelling units, the distribution frames often have the form of 19" RACK boxes/panels. The example of such an optical distribution frame is ULTIMODE MT-524 L5124. The implementation presented below involves the application of L7102 cables and the popular single-mode pigtails PG-52S2 L35522.The splicing operations have been performed with the use of Signal Fire Fire AI-8 L5870 fusion splicer. Worthy of note is the fact that the L35522 pigtails have loose tube construction. Signal Fire AI-8 has universal holders compatible with any kind of fibers and pigtails. It eliminates the need for changing the holders depending on the type of fiber, which is typical in the case of many cheaper splicers.
