Google gains an advantage in the Smart Home race.
Google announced that Google Assistant, the artificial intelligence software embedded in Android phones, and the intelligent WiFi Google Home speaker system with built-in access to Google supports more than 5,000 smart devices. This very sharp growth (in January it was 1500 devices) shows how large resources are involved in the development of this project. Integrating the Assistant with other devices, Google creates a concept of a smart home which seems to be far more advanced than conventional solutions. Artificial intelligence significantly broadens the scope of applications and increases the potential of such a system.Google's smart home platform is growing exponentially since its launch in autumn 2016, and covers virtually all types of devices: from cameras and security systems, through door bells, locks and lighting, to dryers, dishwashers and refrigerators. Google supports devices from all known manufacturers, and the list is still growing. Some examples can be the IKEA light system and Deutsche Telekom products, which will be supported soon.

A strong competitor for Google is Amazon, which at the beginning of this year announced the integration of voice assistant Alex with 4000 devices. Since then, the number has not been updated, but it is certain that both companies are leading in SmartHome systems and are ahead of other platforms, such as Apple's HomeKit and SmartThings from Samsung.
How to solve the problem of voltage drop on a long power line?
The PSCU04344SEP M1833 power supply has been specially designed for low-voltage systems with long power runs. The power supply provides increased voltage (30...35 VDC, current capacity 4 x 1 A), reduced by DCDC10H M1834 DC/DC converters located by the receivers (cameras). The converters with stable 12 VDC output voltage have current capacity of 0.8 A. The four independent outputs of the M1833 power supply are galvanically isolated and protected with fuses.

Digital DVB-T/C modulators for distribution of Full HD content in cable RF networks.
Digital modulators can be classified in several ways, beginning with the fact of supporting or not supporting the HDCP protocol, the kind of digitally modulated RF signals (in DVB-T or DVB-C standard), the application of single-channel or multi-channel circuitry, a capability of operation within the whole available frequency range or only in limited bands, and ending with more detailed features, such as various kinds of inputs.Johansson 8202 R86901 and Signal-400 R86700 belong to the single-channel group of digital modulators, with HDMI input accepting HD signal up to Full HD (1920x1080) format and producing its equivalent DVB-T multiplex (in the case of Johansson 8202 R86901, the user can also choose DVB-C (QAM), DMB-T or ATSC standard).
Multi-channel DVB-T modulators WS-7992 R86702 and WS-7990 R86704 enable users to connect two (the former) or four (the latter) sources of HDMI or A/V signals. Aside from the HDMI and A/V (RCA) inputs, they have RF input for combining the output RF signals with other signals distributed in the RF network.
All the devices mentioned above, available in DIPOL eStore, fully support HDCP protocol, so that they allow users to distribute in antenna-type installations any kinds of signals from HDMI sources. The sources can be media players, Blu-ray players, decoders/STBs, DVRs, PCs.
Easy IP 3.0 - Hikvision H.265/H.265+ cameras.
Easy IP 3.0 cameras are characterized by very good image quality any have many advanced functions. With Dark Fighter technology increasing their sensitivity in low-light environments, they provide outstanding results is such difficult lighting conditions. Along with basic video analytics (virtual line crossing, detection of intrusion into an area), they offer additional features: face detection and detection of new objects (e.g. left luggage) or of a change in the arrangement of existing objects (moving or taking an object). Such a functionality allows for using the cameras in advanced video surveillance projects.Comparison of video bit rates for various scenes and H.264, H.265, H.265+ compression algorithms
(source of the data: Hikvision):
No. | Scene description | Bit rate [kbps] | ||
H.264 | H.265 | H.265+ | ||
1 | Coffee shop, good lighting, many moving objects (people) | 3 481 | 1 843 | 650 |
2 | Coffee shop, good lighting, several moving objects (people) | 2 253 | 1 289 | 340 |
3 | Coffee shop, poor lighting (IR ON), motionless image | 930 | 453 | 108 |
4 | Street, good lighting, many moving objects (people and vehicles) | 4 403 | 2 154 | 970 |
5 | Street, good lighting, several moving objects (people and vehicles) | 4 096 | 1 331 | 518 |
6 | Street, poor lighting, motionless image | 2 662 | 1 946 | 480 |
The series also offers several video compression methods: H.265+/H.265/H.264+/H.264. Compared with H.264, H.265 can reduce by half the data stream, which translates into proportional savings of the disk space or into extended data retention time. H.265+ and H.264+ are Hikvision standards based on the original systems and optimized for CCTV applications. They further minimize the streams in typical video surveillance scenarios.

Before choosing an external antenna, the user should check out parameters of the signal received by the LTE modem. Usually it can be done by running a network diagnostic panel offered by the software of the router or modem. The parameters should be compared with the values shown below.
- RSRP (dBm) - (Reference Signal Receive Power) - measure of the signal strength.
- more than -79 dBm - very good signal strength,
- from -80 dBm to -90 dBm - good signal strength,
- from -91 dBm to -100 dBm - poor signal strength.
Need for an outdoor antenna or finding a better location of the modem - less than -100 dBm - very poor signal strength.
It is necessary to use an outdoor antenna - RSRQ (dB) - (Reference Signal Received Quality) - measure of the signal quality.
- more than -9 dB - very good,
- from -10 dB to -15 dB - good,
- from -16 dB to -20 dB - bad.
Need for an outdoor antenna or finding a better location of the modem - less than -20 dB - very bad
It is necessary to use an outdoor antenna - SINR (dB) - (Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio) - measure of signal quality with respect to interference.
- more than 21 dB - very good,
- from 13 dB to 20 dB - good,
- from 0 dB to 12 dB - bad.
It is necessary to use an outdoor antenna - less than 0 dB - very bad.
It is necessary to use an outdoor antenna - RSSI - Received Signal Strength Indicator
- more than -73 dBm - very good,
- from -75 dBm to -85 dBm - good,
- from -87 dBm to -93 dBm - bad.
Need for an outdoor antenna or finding a better location of the modem - less than -95 dBm - very bad.

In a situation where signal parameters indicate the need to install an external antenna, it is worth to buy, for example, TRANS-DATA LTE KPZ 6/8 MIMO A741022. After connecting the antenna to the modem, the parameters of the signal can be significantly improved, which normally coincides with an increased speed of the Internet connectivity.
An example screenshot with LTE signal parameters shown after connecting the TRANS-DATA LTE KPZ 6/8 MIMO A741022 antenna
Microbending and macrobending in optical fibers.
The optical fiber is a very delicate transmission medium from the mechanical point of view. During the installation of fiber optic systems, the installer has to follow specific rules, in particular, should avoid excessive bending and pulling of optical cables and fibers.Microbending can even occur during the production of fibers, why it is so important to use cables only from renowned manufacturers, which guarantee high quality products. The occurrence of this type of bends can also be a consequence of the large changes in the environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, pressure) at the installation site. Macrobending (diameters above 2 mm) is caused by improper handling of fiber optic cables during installation.

Microbending and macrobending may have a significant effect on the signal attenuation in the fiber. The attenuation can strongly depend on the wavelength of the transmitted signals. It may happen that it is critical for one wavelength and not so important for the second. WDM systems, using several transmission wavelengths, are particularly susceptible to such installation errors.
