Advances in holographic data storage.

Researchers from Northeast Normal University w Changchun have developed a new type of data carrier based on nanoparticles allowing holographic writing and reading of data. The carrier with a size of a DVD disc can store a thousand times more data. The data can be read twenty times faster than today's flash memory. The new carrier has a porous surface and is made of titanium oxide and silver nanoparticles. The data is written and read with a laser. The recording consists in changing the charge of silver nanoparticles, which additionally under the influence of different lengths of laser light have different properties, which provides another dimension that can also be used for very dense data packing.

To increase the stability of the written data and the resistance to external UV radiation, the Chinese scientists have added a thin layer (one to two nanometers) of molecules that should capture excess electrons released by UV light before they reach the next layer. In tests, this solution proved to be better than expected. Despite of the presence of UV light, not only was the data effectively saved, but also the read speed unexpectedly increased. Thanks to additional paths created by the new layer, the data could be read at 1 GBps rate.

Easy to use reset option in Hikvision NVRs/DVRs - GUID and security questions.

Hikvision devices have the ability to generate a special GUID file containing encrypted login data for the administrator account. If you forget your login details, this file allows you to reset the password yourself (without contacting the manufacturer which is needed in the case of password reset by SADP). The GUID file can be stored on a computer or a memory stick. Please note that every time you change your administrator password, you must create a new GUID file. The GUID file should be securely stored by the installer or system administrator.

Restoring access to a Hikvision device through GUID verification
An alternative way to access a Hikvision device is to give proper answers to security questions. When configuring this security setting, select 3 security questions from the drop-down list and enter the answers. Correct answers during logging to the device will allow you to reset the password.

Vimtag IP Wi-Fi cameras can be used for the care of young children.

DIPOL offers new IP Wi-Fi cameras from Vimtag, K1561 (PTZ) and K1552 (fixed), supported by a cloud service and dedicated for a variety of home applications. They make an ideal solution for everyone requiring many functions performed by a single device. The functions include an electronic nanny, helper in the care of elderly parents, a pet minder, or just a simple home monitoring system. The cameras have the option of motion detection and can send Push notifications via mobile applications as the responses to such events. This functionality and the applications are ideal for monitoring of sleeping children. When a child wakes up and moves, the motion detection function notifies the parent(s) on the phone(s).

The both cameras can be accessed and operated via Vimtag applications, with Android and iOS devices, as well from PCs. The connections with the cameras are also possible via internet browsers. To access their devices, the users should simply log in to the previously created accounts. In the local network, it is possible by entering the IP address of the device. The process of setting up and adding a camera to the account is extremely simple and does not require port forwarding to connect from an external network.

Measurements of digital DVB-T signals - MER parameter.

The majority of commercially available meters of digital television signals allows only signal level measurements expressed in dBμV and an approximate estimate of their quality (usually as a percentage). Usually, it does not allow for precise positioning of the antenna. An important parameter that should be taken into account when measuring DVB-T signals is MER. MER can be treated as a measure of the distance of the received signal to the digital cliff. Without knowing this parameter, the antenna installer cannot guarantee stable reception in adverse weather conditions or other situations when the signal can fluctuate (e.g. interfered by a passing truck).
Appropriate safety margin (sufficiently large distance from the "digital cliff") confirmed by MER measurement allows the installer to avoid this type of situations. The recommended and minimum values of MER required for proper reception depend on the modulation technique. In the case of 64-QAM modulation, they are 31 dB and 26 dB respectively.

Transmission of HDMI and USB signals over distances above 100 meters.

Signal-HD HDMI to IP converter H3613 enables the user to connect remote (up to 100 m) source of HD content to HD-enabled television/monitor, using one CAT5e/6 cable. USB ports of the units located on both ends of the link also allow for remote control of e.g. a DVR/NVR, with a mouse or keyboard. With such a solution, the recorder can be placed in a secure room and operated from any other room, with only the monitor and mouse on the desk. So far, a similar solution required the application of a PC and the recorder had to be connected to the LAN.
HDMI & USB to IP converter/extender
Transmission of HDMI signal from DVR to monitor and USB data from mouse/keyboard to DVR via UTP cable
Normally the maximum length of the UTP cable in an Ethernet network cannot exceed 100 meters. The same applies to the presented solution. However, there are simple methods that help overcome this barrier. The first method is the use of a device operating in the second network layer, e.g. a switch. With this solution, the maximum distance can be increased to 200 m.

The application of a switch can extend the transmission distance of HDMI and USB signals to 200 m
Another and the most flexible method involves fiber optic technology, i.e. the change of the transmission medium. For example, using the pair of TP-Link MC110CS L11223 Ethernet media converters, the range can be extended up to 20 km.

LAN in two buildings located at a distance of 200 m.

The best way to create one LAN network in two buildings located at a distance of 200 meters is the application of fiber optic cable. The use of twisted pair cable over such a distance would not comply with applicable standards and would result in a significant reduction of the throughput of the LAN.
In a situation where the buildings are already equipped with switches without SFP slots, the best and universal solution is the use of optical media converters. In each building the suitable media converter is connected to one of the ports of the switch and changes the electrical signals into optical form and vice versa. Choosing a media converter, the user should consider the following parameters:
  • data transfer rate - there are 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps models,
  • fiber type - designed for multimode or single-mode fibers,
  • maximum transmission distance - we offer models with range of 550 m, 2000 m, 15 km or 20 km,
  • communication method - there are models operating with two fibers or with one fiber (WDM).

WiFi network in a small school. Wireless network in a small school differs from similar installations in larger facilities mainly in the number of access points necessary for proper coverage of the whole school building. The best practice for this type of wireless network is also to create several completely independent SSIDs (Service Set Identifiers), so that individual user groups connect to their specific WiFi networks (separate for students, teachers, administrative staff, guests after classes)... >>>more
