First flight of autonomous Airbus taxi.

When in 2016, the Airbus company based in Toulouse announced that it was going to develop an aerial taxi, it sounded like a fantasy. The European aircraft manufacturer has shown that it was not a joke. The Airbus team has successfully conducted flights of an autonomous air taxi called "Alpha One". They took place in a new test center in Pendleton, Oregon. The aerial taxi prototype rose to a height of five meters and remained in the air for 53 seconds. "Alpha One" is 6.2 m wide, 5.7 m long, 2.8 m high, weighs 744 kg and can take one passenger on board.
Alpha One - will taxis look like this in the future?
In the future, drones are to facilitate fast and efficient traveling in congested cities. They will allow users to save time by avoiding street traffic jams. Airbus expects to launch a production-ready version of the "Alpha One" drone by 2020. The aircraft manufacturer is working on a fully autonomous autopilot, which will ensure comfort and safety for passengers during the flights. The software and sensors are created with the thought that in the future there can be many similar air taxis and there may be traffic jams in the air!

Access to Hikvision devices via Hik-Connect service.

Hik-Connect is a network service for Hikvison devices. The service integrates P2P cloud for remote access to cameras via smartphones and tablets, providing a wide range of management and configuration functions: live view (also of multiple channels), PTZ control, digital zoom, audio listening, playback of archives, handling of alarm notifications (zone violation, line crossing etc.).
Main features of Hik-Connect service:
  • requires only basic configuration of the network,
  • no need for external IP address and port forwarding,
  • connectivity via p2p cloud service and client application for Android or iOS devices,
  • data encryption.

Displaying video on monitors in a bus.

Public transport buses are often equipped with monitors intended for displaying some information and commercials. An effective way to distribute the video from a computer or multimedia player to multiple monitors installed in a bus is the application of an HDMI to IP converter/extender.
Signal-HD H3614 HDMI to IP converter is used to connect a source of HD content to HD-enabled television/monitor, using one CAT5e/6 cable. The IP signal coming out from the transmitter is applied to the N29942 Ethernet switch to split it among several H3615 IP receivers. The receivers, located by the monitors, are connected with them via short HDMI cables.

Signal Fire AI-8 fusion splicer - quick software upgrade.

The first step to use the Signal Fire AI-8 L5870 splicer is to download the dedicated application for an Android device from Google Play store, or for an iOS device from AppStore.
The preliminary steps include running the downloaded app, switching on the splicer and selecting "Connect device" option. The connection uses Bluetooth technology. After selecting the splicer from the list of devices visible on the smartphone or tablet, the activation of the connection will be confirmed with an appropriate message in the main application window.
One of the advantages of the solution consisting in the configuration of the splicer using the app running on a mobile device is the ability to quickly and easily verify the availability of newer software versions. The user does not have to remember to check for a new software on the website of the manufacturer or distributor. It is enough to select the "Software update" option in the main window of the app.
In the case of a firmware update, it will be automatically downloaded to the handheld and uploaded to the splicer. This process may take several minutes. It is recommended to periodically check the availability of the new software.

Dynamic motion analysis in Hikvision IP cameras.

Hikvision IP cameras have the option of dynamic motion analysis that allows for:
  • optimizing detection parameters with the help of relevant information displayed in real time,
  • displaying additional bar with motion detection, next to the playback bar of continuous recording,
  • using smart function in the NVR, allowing for quick search of interesting fragments.
Depending on the options activated in the camera, the range of functions includes:
  • Enabling rules: Configuration -> Local -> Rules
  • Switching on Dual-VCA: Configuration -> Video/Audio -> Display Info. on Stream -> Enable Dual-VCA,
  • Switching on Dynamic Analysis for Motion: Configuration -> Event -> Basic Event -> Motion Detection -> Enable Dynamic Analysis for Motion (it is also necessary to enable motion detection and draw a motion detection area).
If all the above-mentioned options are active, then after logging in to the camera via a web browser or from the NVR, the user will see in the real-time video the squares symbolizing places with motion detected in the previously drawn detection area. This allows the user to analyze how motion is being detected at various distances from the camera and to set the required sensitivity of the detection. Below there is an example of how the hand movements are detected at the same distance from the camera, but at detection levels of 20% and 80%.
The green squares mark motion detection points
in the selected area, at different detection levels
In the case of continuous recording set on the NVR, an additional bar appears under the progress bar, with marked motion detection events. The continuous recording mode guarantees complete video coverage, whereas the marked motion detection events allow the user to quickly filter out periods with these specific events. The user can also employ smart search function just by selecting the required detection area. After defining the area, the detection bar will show only recordings that meet this criterion.
Turning off the rules will cause that the squares that symbolize motion detection will not be displayed by a web browser in live view. After disabling Dual-VCA, the additional information will not be added to the video stream, and smart search will not be possible on the NVR. However, with active dynamic motion analysis, the markings of detected motion events will be displayed under the progress bar.

Broadband amplifiers in shared antenna systems.

Building amplifiers are used in shared antenna systems (MATV/CATV) to distribute antenna signals within passive networks. They compensate the attenuation of the distribution networks caused by splitters, taps, cables and antenna outlets. The amplifiers have one input and one output, and often a test output (the level of the test signal is usually decreased by 20 or 30 dB). They also have built-in power supplies and circuits compensating the differences in cable attenuation at various frequencies (slope adjustment). The maximum output level of the amplifiers is usually at least 100 dBμV.

What is the maximum PoC transmission range? PoC, Power over Coax, is a power supply system used to energize HD-TVI cameras over the same coaxial cables that transmit video signals from the cameras to the DVR. This method of remote power supply eliminates the need for additional cables/wires - each camera is connected to the system via a single coax, or optionally, via a pair of wires from (F)/UTP cable (min. cat.5e)... >>>more
