8K televisions available already this year, but the content for them not earlier than in 2025?
Nowadays, when the 4K resolution in TV sets is not unusual anymore, TV manufacturers start the race in the implementation of even more advanced solutions. Due to practical limitations in terms of bandwidth/compression, the next market goal in this field set by the producers is 8K. TVs with this resolution may be commonly available in some countries by the end of this year. But when will broadcasters transmit 8K programs? Unfortunately, the forecasts call for 2025. The exception can be NHK World, the Japanese public TV and radio broadcaster, which is going to broadcast Olympic Games in Tokyo in 8K. However, it seems more a matter of honor and national pride of the Japanese than a major technological impulse. In addition, this resolution may be reserved for 80-inch and bigger screens. It shows how gigantic screens should be widely available to take full advantage of this technology.
Usually, users watch their TVs from distances of about 2.7 meters. To take full advantage of 4K resolution,
the user should have 84-inch screen and view the image from a distance of 1.6 meters.
In the case of 8K, the distance should be even shorter.

The development of televisions with big screen diagonals and very large resolutions is limited both by technological and economic barriers, as well as by the enormous data streams necessary for transmission of the 8K UHD content. The cost of such a television is only a part of the expenditure on the pleasure of watching images in cinematic quality. The expected high cost of subscription of the content, directly connected with the production and transmission costs, can be another barrier in supplying this kind of services. There is also a need for a successor to the H.265/HEVC video coding format that could provide even higher video compression efficiency. Taking into account all the conditions, the year 2025 seems the most probable time when we will be able to enjoy 8K resolutions in our homes.
Access to security cameras via a wireless link.
In situations where a DVR and the monitoring post are located at a distance eliminating the possibility of direct wired connection between the DVR and monitor(s), the applicable solution is the use of IP network. A wireless bridge between the installation site with the DVR and the monitoring post can be based on TP-LINK CPE510 N2352 access points.
In the diagram above, one of the APs is connected with the network card of the Hikvision DS-7208HQHI-F2/N/A M75209 DVR via Netset E1408 UTP cable. The building is monitored by analog cameras N-CAM 760 M7478 and V-CAM 560 M7429 with integrated IR illuminators. They provide high quality 1080p video. The configuration of the DVR and monitoring of the video from the cameras is possible by the application of free iVMS-4200 software installed and run on a PC located on the other side of the wireless link.
F-type compression connectors in CATV/SMATV systems.
F-type connectors are used for making connections in antenna systems based on coaxial cables with 75 Ω impedance. These are usually terrestrial TV, SAT TV, and CATV installations, and sometimes CCTV systems. The connectors are available in straight and angled versions. Their design and quality have a direct impact on the reliability, stability and performance of the connections - signal loss and impedance matching. The highest quality MASTER compression connectors ensure long-term and reliable operation in even the harshest conditions. F MASTER connectors with double compression rings (on the cable and the O-ring seal on the connector side) fully protect the cables and the connections (also the equipment) against water penetration. The dimensions of the compression elements of the connectors have been specially designed for use on the dedicated cables. The appropriate design and excellent precision ensure easy installation of the MASTER connectors. Precise thread eliminates problems with screwing the connectors on sockets, which can happen with other plugs. The compression method of installation on cables provides high mechanical strength, tightness and stability over time. The straight connectors should be compressed with the E80075 universal compression tool, and the angle connectors with the E80078 tool.
Comparison of images from a Hikvision IP camera with different shutter settings.
The screenshots and videos presented below come from DS-2CD2025FWD-I K17592 camera operating at night with different shutter settings. In the case of the first recording, where the camera operates in color mode, the shutter was set to 1/25 sec. Due to high sensitivity and sufficient light intensity, the camera did not switch to black and white mode. Taking a screenshot, one can notice that the moving object (car) is blurred. In the case of the second recording, the shutter was set to 1/100 s. Due to the smaller amount of light reaching the image sensor, the camera switched to black and white mode. The reduced exposure time has prevented the blur effect of the moving car.Improvement of GSM coverage in a three-story building.
Signal GSM-1205 A6785 repeater amplifies GSM signals to improve communication inside buildings where normally the signals are insufficient for trouble-free operation of mobile phones. Such locations include some remote places (long distances to base stations) as well as rooms in old buildings with thick walls.Installation of the Signal GSM-1205 A6785 repeater:
- find a place outside the building with a good GSM signal (900 MHz) for installing the A741030 outdoor antenna,
- indoor antennas should be installed centrally in the areas they are to cover, preserving the distance from any of them to the location of the outdoor antenna (the necessary isolation):
- above 5 m when between the outdoor and indoor antenna there is a thick wall/ceiling,
- above 10 m in other cases,
- choose a location for installing the GSM-1205 repeater so that to minimize the total length of connections to indoor antennas,
- the final location of the repeater should be away from heaters etc. and should ensure natural ventilation,
- mount the A741030 outdoor antenna so that it is directed towards the appropriate GSM base station,
- connect the outdoor antenna to the dedicated, marked socket of the repeater, using only the necessary (minimum) length of the connecting cable,
- connect the suitable power supply.

LAN in two buildings - distance of 200 m.
The best way to create one LAN network in two buildings located at a distance of 200 meters is the application of fiber optic cable. The use of twisted pair cable over such a distance would not comply with applicable standards and would result in a significant reduction of the throughput of the LAN.In a situation where the buildings are already equipped with switches without SFP slots, the best and universal solution is the use of optical media converters. In each building the suitable media converter is connected to one of the ports of the switch and changes the electrical signals into optical form and vice versa. Choosing a media converter, the user should consider the following parameters:
- data transfer rate - there are 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps models,
- fiber type - designed for multimode or single-mode fibers,
- maximum transmission distance - we offer models with range of 550 m, 2000 m, 15 km or 20 km,
- communication method - there are models operating with two fibers or with one fiber (WDM).
