Australia connected the largest battery in the world.

At the beginning of this year, Tesla, American company producing electric cars, teamed with French renewable energy firm Neoen for the construction of the world's largest battery to provide a back-up power system for South Australia. During a Twitter conversation with Australian billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes, Elon Musk, co-founder of Tesla Motors, made a promise: "Tesla will get the system installed and working 100 days from contract signature or it is free." The clock started ticking when SA-based electricity transmission company Electranet signed the official agreement to install Tesla's batteries. As reported by the Australian media, the battery was officially launched at the beginning of December, during the annual peak of energy consumption by Australian households, which meant that Musk kept his word.

The PowerWall 100 MW / 129 MWh battery system collects energy generated by a nearby wind farm and can supply electricity to up to 30,000 homes for a little over an hour. The battery has three times higher capacity than the next competitive solution. The new Tesla system is part of the effort to solve problems related to energy supply in South Australia. South Australia is now a global leader in the field of renewable energy.
For one day in September last year, as many as 1.7 million people from this region were deprived of electricity after a big storm. The investigation carried out by the Australian grid operator has blamed for the failure the security mechanism in the wind farms of South Australia. Coupled with the state's newly installed fleet of backup diesel generators, the main task of the new system is to prevent similar problems in the future.

DIPOL introduced to its offer HDMI (Full HD 1080p/60Hz) to DVB-T encoder/modulator R86111. The device is used in CCTV monitoring systems integrated with TV antenna installations, including S/MATV systems. Via the RF network based on coaxial cables it can transmit surveillance video from a DVR or NVR to many televisions. The R86111 device encodes and modulates Full HD (1920x1080-60p) signal provided to its HDMI input to RF signal in accordance with DVB-T standard (COFDM), so it offers an attractive alternative to installations based on HDMI splitters and cables.

The DVB-T (RF) channel is selected with the bank of miniature toggle switches.
The device is a single-channel modulator, which means that the output DVB-T multiplex contains one channel modulated by the source signal. The DVB-T (RF) channel is selected with the 8-position bank of miniature toggle switches.

The R86111 encoder/modulator does not support HDCP. So, it can be used in installations with HDMI signals coming from:
  • DVR or NVR,
  • security camera with HDMI output, e.g. DS-2CD2125FWD-IM K17291, or IP camera and transcoder (e.g. K2005),
  • PC,
  • laptop,
  • older STB without HDCP.
DVB-T modulators that do not support the HDCP protocol are significantly cheaper than these which support it. So, if the source of signal is e.g. a camera with HDMI output or CCTV DVR/NVR, there is no need to buy an expensive modulator.

How to monitor video from devices using Hik-Connect service?

Hik-Connect is a network service that integrates remote access to Hikvision DVRs, NVRs and IP cameras which support Cloud P2P function and the DDNS server. The remote access through the cloud is possible with the use of the following client applications:
  • iVMS-4200
  • The application is used for managing, configuring and live monitoring of Hikvision DVRs (cooperating with analog and IP cameras, which also means support for hybrid systems), NVRs and IP cameras over IP network. The user of the application can manage up to 256 devices on up to 4 monitors. One monitor can display video from up to 64 cameras. In addition to configuring, live viewing and recording, the features of the software include remote browsing and searching of recordings, playback, backup, processing of alarm signals, two-way audio transmission, use of multi-level e-maps.
  • Hik-Connect
  • This is a mobile application, intended for smartphones running Android or iOS operating systems. It can be used for remote live viewing of images from DVRs, NVRs, network cameras via Wi-Fi, 2G or 3G networks, and for playing back recorded video files. The application connects with the devices by IP addresses and/or through the P2P cloud.

As a part of the DDNS server, in addition to client applications, the users can access live view via web browsers (it is necessary to forward the required ports).

A separate cable provided to each camera placed on a pole is the most versatile and the least labor-intensive solution, taking into account the splicing and protecting of optical fibers. However, it involves more effort when laying cables, as the overall length of the cable routes is greater.

In this topology, the structure of the cable is not a significant factor, as there are no branches along the paths. Of course, the cable must meet all the requirements necessary for the proper operation in the environmental conditions. An important parameter is the tensile strength, sufficient for operations connected with pulling in the cable to cable ducts. The most popular types of cables used in installations of this type include:

Regardless of the number of cameras on a pole, the transmission is performed only via two optical fibers. However, we recommend at least the minimum redundancy level - the application of optical cables with 4 fibers.

Ceiling IP Camera Hikvision DS-2CD2125FWD-IM K17291 is dedicated for professional IP CCTV systems. The ceiling camera has been equipped with high quality 2 MP 1/2.8" CMOS sensor providing perfect video coverage even in low-light conditions.
