Smart clothes without electronics.

Scientists from University of Washington have developed a new system of data storing in clothes. They have been able to save small amounts of data by magnetizing "bits" of specially prepared fabric. The data can then be read by magnetometers (e.g. those embedded in smartphones). No electronic circuitry or power supply is required to store the data and the recording consists in a single magnetization of "bits" made of off-the-shelf conductive thread.
It is easy to magnetize a strip made of the suitable fabric.
The data can be read by simple magnetometers built into smartphones.
The method can be used to store e.g. passcodes necessary to enter a zone (instead of magnetic or proximity cards) or other identification data. The researchers also demonstrated the possibility to control a smartphone placed in the user's pocket with gestures of his/her hand wearing a glove with the magnetized conductive fabric sewn into its fingertips.
As the magnetization cease, the stored data is not permanent, but the fabric can be re-magnetized and re-programmed. The tests show that the data can be read for a few weeks. This period also depends on the sensitivity of the reading devices, as a weak residual magnetic field can last for several months. And - without batteries and electronic circuits - the pieces of clothing can be normally washed, dried and ironed.
Smart clothes can be used as contactless proximity cards
There have been developed accessories for clothes using the same method, such as a belt, a wedding band and a necklace. The process of creating the magnetic data carrier and writing out the data is simple and cheap. A competitive technology - RFID - uses radio waves to power special labels and transmit the stored data. It is more expensive to use, due to a high price of the receiving devices (the cost of the labels is comparable with the magnetic ones). In general, the field of wearable devices has a great potential. In each case, the processing of personal data and access codes must comply with legal regulations concerning personal data protection and security aspects.

Distribution of satellite DVB-S/S2 channels in hotels.

Distribution of selected satellite channels after conversion to DVB-T COFDM digital form along with DVB-T broadcasts has become a standard solution used in hotels, motels, lodging houses etc. Satellite channels received by conventional DVB-T televisions can be a complement to terrestrial TV broadcasts or the main or only source of programming in the system. For this purpose, the satellite DVB-S/S2 (8PSK, QPSK) signals have to be converted to the DVB-T standard (COFDM). The main units of such systems are TDX-480 R81621 transmodulators. One TDX-480 R81621 panel can receive channels from eight satellite transponders and convert them into two groups of four neighboring DVB-T multiplexes with maximum throughput of 31.66 Mbps. In practice, each of the eight multiplexes can carry 6 SD channels or 2-3 HD channels.

The distribution of the output DVB-T multiplexes is performed with the use of typical RF taps operating in 5-1000 MHz frequency range. Thanks to the application of the SRM-521 R80521 single-cable dSCR multiswitch using Unicable technology, the whole programming from one satellite is provided to the transmodulator via a single coaxial cable. The multiswitch is conventionally fed by the A98257 quatro LNB via four cables providing SAT IF signals (950...2150 MHz).

Certified RACK cabinets.

Until recently, RACK cabinets have been used mainly in large telecommunications systems and server rooms. Currently, smaller RACK cabinets are used in majority of building installations and even in home systems. RACK cabinets are ideal for installing headends, switches, computers, optical devices. They can also house devices that are not in standard 19" rack housings, for example multiswitches, RF amplifiers, modulators, DVRs, NVRs.
When choosing accessories for rack cabinets, the customer should pay attention to their compatibility with the specific models of the cabinets. Some components may be dedicated to other models, e.g. with greater depth or with a different way of mounting the accessory (e.g. a fan). DIPOL e-Store offers a simple mechanism that provides a list of compatible accessories for the selected RACK cabinet. The user should simply open the site with the required RACK, e.g. R912020, and then click on the "Add accessories" button in the right section.

Hanging RACK cabinets are ideal for building and home systems.

Faster splicing of optical fibers - Signal Fire AI-8.

DIPOL sells now new model of Signal Fire fusion splicer. The AI-8 L5870 machine can splice fibers and protect the splices even faster than AI-7.
The minimum splicing time is only 6 seconds,
and the sleeve heating period is 15 seconds.

DIPOL company is the exclusive distributor of Signal Fire fusion splicers in Poland and gives a 3-year warranty.

Signal Fire is a dynamically developing company specializing in the manufacture of fiber optic splicers. Headquartered in Chengdu, it employs nearly 200 professionals. The devices are built with top-of-the-line components from renown manufacturers (including European ones), and based on technological solutions protected by numerous patents. The characteristic feature of splicing machines from Signal Fire is the use of smartphones for their configuration, archiving of operation data and for diagnostics.

Common features of Signal Fire AI-8 and AI-7 models:
  • 6 motors from Siemens for precision fiber positioning,
  • fully automatic core alignment - normally it is enough to put the fiber ends into the holders,
  • x300 magnification factor in both axes for visual inspection of the splice by the installer,
  • configuration with dedicated smartphone app (Android/iOS),
  • the app can create operation reports (export to xls files),
  • possibility of recording images of unsuccessful splicing operations for diagnostic purposes,
  • long-life electrodes (3000 splices, plus spare set included),
  • high-capacity, easily exchangeable battery (7800 mAh, ca. 200 splicing and heating operations),
  • large set of accessories (it is necessary to buy only Alcohol-soaked Wipes),
  • high quality practical toolbox providing a solid and stable support.

Disk space allocation for individual channels.

Hikvision DVRs/NVRs allow users to activate recording mode with data allocation limits. For each channel, the amount of disk space can be determined independently. Once it's full, the older recordings will be overwritten. Such parameterization is useful for example in systems with several key cameras. By allocation of a larger disk space for their channels, the administrator can either use higher recording parameters or prolong the data retention time.
Storage Mode settings
Configuration of storage mode:
  • right-click on the screen in the DVR/NVR menu (a drop-down menu appears),
  • go to Main Menu > HDD > Advanced settings,
  • specify the Mode (Quota) and the Camera ([channel number], camera) to be adjusted,
  • enter the value in GB in the Max. Record Capacity position,
  • Apply the settings.
In order for the changes to take effect, the DVR/NVR must be restarted.

Hikvision IP cameras - firmware update with face detection function.

The 5.5.0 firmware version of Hikvision IP cameras provides face detection functionality. The new firmware is designed for IP cameras belonging to the R6 hardware platform with CD2XX2(F)WD and DS-2CD2X52(F) type designations, e.g. DS-2CD2142FWD-I K17363, DS-2CD2022WD-I K17638. This function is also supported by EasyIP 3.0 and project cameras. The use of the function allows for faster filtering of interesting recordings by searching for fragments with people within video frames. The latest firmware can be downloaded from the website of each camera.
