Flying taxis in Dubai.

Dubai attracts the attention of the world with innovative and ambitious construction projects, sporting events, conferences and Guinness records in various fields. Currently, the city wants to become famous as the first place in the world with autonomous flying taxis. The Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed tests of EHang 184 flying vehicle in urban conditions. Dubai authorities believe that such means of transport in the city could be a reality in the near future.
EHang 184 resembles a massive quadcopter drone and can carry one passenger. The machine is equipped with eight motors and can move at speeds of up to 160 km/h, reaching average cruising speed of 60 km/h for a maximum of 23 minutes, at an altitude of 300 to 500 meters. The charging time can vary from 4 h for slow charge to 1 h for fast charge. Users will be able to select the destination with a touch screen, and the flying taxi will autonomously take off, fly and land in the indicated place. The tests have shown that the small "helicopter" can operate in almost any conditions - in hot weather, rain and fog, but not during a storm. With these machines, Dubai hopes to add variety to the public transport.

New password reset option in Hikvision NVRs/DVRs.

Hikvision has introduced the possibility of resetting the administrator's password in IP NVRs and HD-TVI 3.0 DVRs with the use of special GUID file. The functionality is available for users after updating the firmware of IP NVRs from the -E/-K/-I series above the 3.4.90 version and of HD-TVI 3.0 DVRs above the 3.4.80 version. After assigning an administrator password during the first logging on, the GUID file can be exported directly from the device or through a web browser. In the case when the password is forgotten, the file will enable the user to assign a new administrator password. This will be possible without a contact with technical support. The GUID file should be securely stored by the installer or system administrator.
If the file is not exported during assigning the administrator password, it can be generated later. To do it through a web browser, the user should log on to the NVR/DVR using the administrator password and go to the "Configuration -> System -> User Management" menu. To export the GUID file, the user has to give the current security password and save the file in any suitable location. From this moment on, in the case of a problem with logging, the choice of the Forgot Password option will enable the user to re-assign the password, just by indicating the path to the GUID file. Of course, if in the meantime the administrator password has been changed, the file must be generated again.

Modular transmodulators of DVB-S/S2 satellite signals.

DIPOL has extended its offer with devices allowing for management and distribution of satellite channels in SMATV systems, TDX-420 R81618 and TDX-420C R81619. The devices distributing satellite channels after conversion to DVB-T COFDM digital form are popular solutions used in many hotels. Satellite channels can be a complement to terrestrial TV broadcasts or be the main or only source of programming in the system. Thanks to the conversion of DVB-S/S2 signals into DVB-T COFDM standard, the satellite programming can be received by regular televisions, similarly to normal DVB-T broadcasts. The converted satellite channels can be easily distributed to TV outlets via typical TV installations based on coaxial cabling, splitters and taps.
IPTV Streamer: TERRA sdi 480 (DVB-S/S2 to IP, USB port)
Terra TDX-420C R81619 DVB-S/S2 to DVB-T transmodulator is used for reception of DVB-S/S2 (8PSK/QPSK) signals, selection of desired channels and retransmission of them in COFDM format in chosen RF channels in VHF/UHF frequency range. The device allows the user to receive and manage a range of free to air and encrypted satellite channels (CI/CAM compatibility). One TDX-420C R81619 panel can receive channels from two satellite transponders and convert them into two neighboring DVB-T multiplexes with maximum throughput of 31.66 Mbps (no PID filtering). In practice, each multiplex can carry 6 SD channels or 2-3 HD channels. The administrator of the system selects the required channels from the satellite streams and forms two DVB-T multiplexes. Alternatively, one DVB-T multiplex can be programmed from channels coming from two different satellite transponders, including pay-TV channels that can be decrypted by suitable conditional access modules (CAM) with dedicated smart cards. In the case of receiving and distributing only free-to-air satellite channels, the recommended model is TDX-420 R81618.

VGA to IP converter/extender (transmission via UTP cable).

VGA extender Signal HD H3618 allows for connecting a monitor or television with VGA input to a remote (up to 100 m) source of signal with VGA output. The video signal converted into IP stream and transmitted via cat. 5e or cat. 6 twisted pair cable can be applied to an Ethernet switch to split it among multiple receivers. The bit rate of the compressed signal at the output of the transmitter operating in multicast mode is about 20 Mbps. The output signal can be properly decoded only by the dedicated receivers - it cannot be done by a PC equipped with a network card.
Distinguishing features:
  • Transmission via a single Cat. 5e/6 cable
  • UDP/IP protocol (multicast)
  • Transmission of stereo sound
  • Possibility of point-to-multipoint topology
  • Supported resolutions: 1920x1080@60Hz, 1680x1050@60Hz, 1440x900@60Hz, 1360x768@60Hz, 1280x1024@60Hz, 1280x960@60Hz, 1280x720@60Hz, 1024x768@60Hz, 800x600@60Hz
  • Maximum length of transmission cable: 100 meters

Flat optical cables inside buildings.

Implementations of FTTH installations based on fiber optic subscriber lines arranged in a star topology are currently the most popular way of deploying fiber optics in multi-family buildings. The main advantages of the solution include a relatively low cost and a simple installation. The reasons of the low cost:
  • application of cheap distribution cables – the most popular indoor distribution cable Ultimode L7102 is nearly two times cheaper than good quality Cat 5 UTP cable
  • no need for additional installation activities such as splicing fibers in some intermediate boxes, making breakout windows, pulling out fibers, installation of breakout units (necessary in the case of breakout/easy access cables)
A disadvantage of this solution can be problems with holding multiple cables in proper arrangement in the distribution frame (to preserve the minimum bending radius for each cable/fiber). In some cases, the solution requires the application of additional distribution frame(s) for getting more space, despite the fact that the number of connections would be sufficient.
Fiber Optic Box: ULTIMODE MT-524 (19Indoor Cable: ULTIMODE ILB-2SM-A (2xG.657A1, limited bending radius)
The most popular cable used in these applications is ULTIMODE ILB-2SM-A L7102. A special construction of the cable with rectangular cross-section of the jacket plus built-in FRP reinforcing rods naturally limit the bending capability in one plane to a safe bending radius range. Thanks to reduced minimum bending radius of the G.657.A single-mode fibers, the cable and individual fibers can be formed into tight coils (the minimum bending radius is only 7.5 mm).

Some Hikvision HD-TVI DVRs support 4 MP IP cameras.

Analog Hikvision DVRs of DS-72xx series can support megapixel IP cameras. These can be both Hikvision cameras and other cameras compliant with Onvif standard, for example Sunell and Signal models. As the IP channels of the DVRs are independent from the analog channels, the use of IP cameras does not limit the maximum number of analog cameras.
Most Hikvision HD-TVI DVRs support IP cameras with a resolution up to 1080p. However, the DS-72xxHUHI-F series can operate with cameras up to 4 MP. In the case of models from this series, the maximum numbers of cameras are as follows:
  • M75305 - 4 analog channels up to 3 MP + 2 IP channels up to 4 MP,
  • M75309 - 8 analog channels up to 3 MP + 2 IP channels up to 4 MP,
  • M75317 - 16 analog channels up to 3 MP + 2 IP channels up to 4 MP.

Video surveillance of a house, based on 4-channel HD-TVI DVR M75305,
four 2 MP HD-TVI M7505 cameras, and two 4 MP IP K1787 cameras
The analog DVRs having the characteristics of hybrid devices are ideal in situations where some IP cameras have already been installed, but in view of further expansion, new solutions based on modern analog equipment are more attractively priced.
