Artificial intelligence in Google Translate.

Google announces the Google Neural Machine Translation system (GNMT) that should reduce by 55% - 85% translation errors in Google Translate service. The system should revolutionize machine translations by replacing the current algorithms. The project has matured into implementation on the tenth anniversary of the launch of Google Translate. The Research Scientists from Google Brain Team have noticed that: "Since then, rapid advances in machine intelligence have improved our speech recognition and image recognition capabilities, but improving machine translation remains a challenging goal."
Comparison of the quality of translations with the use of different algorithms,
in a 0-6 scale, with reference to human and "perfect" levels
Comparison of the quality of translation based on the current and the new method -
there is a huge difference in accuracy
The current solution is based on Phrase-Based Machine Translation (PBMT), which translates sequences of words or phrases. It is known from many incorrect and illogical results. The algorithm divides sentences into words and phases and finds their equivalents in the target language. The new system will take into account whole sentences and their overall meaning. The GNMT project has been developed for several years. The scientist have been looking for methods ensuring both quick translation of a large content and high degree of accuracy. The future electronic translations will be based on machine intelligence provided by Recurrent Neural Networks and training techniques for the mapping between an input sequence to an output sequence. By using several channels, the system will perform simultaneous analysis of the whole sentence, as well as of its individual parts. Tests show that "GNMT has reduced translation errors by 60% compared to phrase-based system on many pairs of languages: English <-> French, English <-> Spanish, and English <-> Chinese." The Google Neural Machine Translation system has already been launched in the online translator from Chinese to English, with 18 million translations a day. Translations between other languages with the use of the new technology should be available in the next few months.

SAT IF amplifiers.

Problems with low level of satellite signals in an individual installation are rather rare, on the condition that the dish and LNB have been properly positioned and adjusted. They can occur in radial SMATV systems with long transmission lines (100 meters or more) and passive components that also attenuate the signals. Most multiswitches, including TERRA and Signal devices, are equipped with active satellite paths with maximum output levels of 85 dBμV or so. However, such an output level can be too low in the case of the long cable runs. The problem can be solved by the application of the R85101 sat line amplifiers (used before a multiswitch) and R82320 amplifiers, installed after the multiswitch.
Sat Line Amplifier: Terra SA-001 (20 dB)
Terrestrial & SAT TV Amplifier (w. return path): Terra HSA-001R6
Sat Line Amplifier Terra SA-001 (20 dB)

Terr. & SAT TV Amplifier Terra HSA-001R6
R82320
The application of TERRA SA-001 R85101 amplifiers is the ideal solution for SMATV systems based on radial multiswitches - the devices powered from the inputs of the multiswitches increase the signal level by ca. 20 dB, up to the maximum level of 104 dBμV. Due to the small size, they can be placed together with the multiswitch in the same installation box.
The HSA001R6 R82320 device is a dual band amplifier (terrestrial TV and SAT IF) with passive return path (65 MHz). It is therefore a universal device for strengthening terrestrial, cable, and satellite signals. Since the frequency range of the amplifier encompasses 87-862 MHz and 950-2400 MHz bands, it is an ideal device for any multiswitch system where the cable connecting a multiswitch output with an end outlet is very long.

Redbeam IR illuminators.

Infrared illuminators light the monitored area in the dark, using infrared light which is not visible to the human eye, but is perfectly captured by CCTV cameras. The advantage of the Redbeam series is the application of specially designed LED arrays (instead of conventional sets of diodes) which, together with optical lens/es, ensure desired operational angles and distances.
Readbeam LED arrays provide output power between 1000 and 2500 mW. To obtain a similar output power, say 1500 mW, a traditional IR illuminator should be composed e.g. of a hundred of popular 15 mW IR LEDs, which would mean a considerably larger size of the illuminator and probably some problems with getting the required characteristics.

Transmission of HD video (HDMI) from a DVR/NVR over a long distance.

The DVR/NVR that records the video surveillance data is often located in a safe place, distant from the surveillance room with the monitor(s). This implies the need to send the video signal (most frequently HDMI) from the video recorder over the long distance, of tens and sometimes even hundreds of meters.
In the latter case, a perfect solution is provided by the application of fiber-optic cable and Signal-HD HDMI to fiber optic converter H3608. The converter allows for long-range transmission of HDMI signal via a single-mode fiber. Simultaneously, it ensures remote control of the DVR/NVR by converting and transmitting commands from its IR remote control (switching between channels etc).

OptimaGSM alarm panel - control via RopamOptima application.

Ropam Elektronik launched new application, RopamOptima, designed for connections with OptimaGSM (-PS) panel equipped with AP-IP module, using TCP/IP protocol.
The application transforms a smartphone or tablet into a command center allowing the user to control home automation functions from any place in the world. Currently, the app is available for Android and iOS mobile devices.
View of the main menu of the RopamOptima app
After logging on to the application, the user sees main window with the status bar and icons for system configuration and control. The status bar can have different colors: red (system in armed/standby mode), orange (system in service mode), gray (normal operation, no alarm). The application allows for switching on/off the standby mode, night arming, checking current panel status, checking/control of outputs, preview/downloading images from IP cameras, preview of system events and failures. Thanks to the functions, the user has convenient access to information about the system and alarm situations, as well as the ability to control it from any location.
The application ensures very high data safety standards. The connections through the application are carried out in a safe manner using TCP/IP protocol. After running the application, the user should add a controlled facility by clicking on (+) symbol and typing the name of the facility (up to 30 characters), 16-character TCP/IP password necessary to log in to the AP-IP module, IP address and number of communication port. Additionally, in order to control the alarm panel through the web/SMSes, the user must enter 4-digit user code. The safety can be further improved by setting a master password to the application and, of course, to the smartphone.
OptimaGSM (-PS) is a modern intruder alarm control panel that can combine the functionality of alarm system and home automation. The control panel has a large amount of resources and functions, such as digital and analog inputs, digital outputs, two-way audio communication, GSM/GPRS communication, temperature measurement and recording, logical functions I/O and O/O. In addition, the functionality can be significantly increased by using expansion modules, such as the FGR-4 for sending MMS/EMAIL, VAR-1 gateway for integration with video intercom, or APm-Aero supporting wireless two-way communication e.g. with sensors. This makes it an ideal platform for the protection of property and the creation of intelligent home based on the already existing electrical wiring.

Inteligent searching and playing back recordings in HD-TVI DVRs. Hikvision DVRs allow users to search for recordings in many ways. In addition to the standard, continuous play, the user can play the recorded material by events (motion detection, alarm input activation, VCA), markers, and DVR logs. The most advanced option is provided by intelligent search for recordings (marked as "smart"), allowing for easy skipping of less important fragments. The intelligent playback system performs analysis of the recorded video in search for pieces that contain information on motion or VCA, and then marks them with green color on the playback progress bar... >>>more
