The fastest flexible transistor.

A group of researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison led by Professor Zhenqiang Ma has made a prototype transistor operating at a frequency of 38 GHz. "A unique 3-dimensional etched-trench-channel configuration was used to allow for TFT fabrication compatible with flexible substrates." Simulations show that it could be able to work even at a frequency of 110 GHz! The transistor can be used in the construction of ultra-fast processors, flexible RF and wearable electronics, flexible displays, identification tags, biomedical sensors.

The researchers replaced the traditional lithographic method, involving the exposure of photosensitive elements, with nanoimprinting lithography (NIL) to imprint the structure of a transistor on a flexible substrate. The key of this technology is fabrication of high-performance flexible Si nanomembrane (NM)-based RF thin-film transistors (TFTs). This method enables the production of NIL patterned deep-submicron-scale channel lengths at a comparatively low cost. This membrane is then used as a mask in the etching process for the layers below, reflecting the extremely precise design. The nanoimprint is created in electron-beam lithography that uses an electron beam about the size of a few nanometers. Thanks to the unique structure of the design, the transistor has very good parameters - consumes less energy and operates more efficiently.

Adding new device to iVMS 4500 app via QR code.

iVMS-4500 is a software application that allows remote viewing of images from Hikvision NVRs and IP cameras on mobile devices running Android, iOS or Windows Phone operating systems.
The user can add a new network device manually entering its IP address or by scanning its QR code. The QR code can be scanned directly from the housing of the device (a camera or NVR) or from the image generated by the device itself (available in the configuration window). This simplifies the configuration of IP CCTV systems and eliminates the need to manually enter IP addresses.

Control of boom barriers with Lightfighter DS-2CD4A25FWD-IZS cameras.

The Lightfighter DS-2CD4A25FWD-IZS K17891 camera can be used for license plate recognition (LPR) and control (via alarm output) of a boom gate or other device. The list of additional automatic functions becomes much longer after connecting the camera to a Hikvision NVR supporting the LPR function.
In the case of autonomous operation (without an NVR), it is necessary to import the "white" and "black" lists of allowed and prohibited license plates/vehicles. The lists are provided as a file with .xls extension. The user can edit the file after logging on to the camera in the Advanced Configuration -> Road Traffic -> Blacklist & Whitelist window, exporting it to the computer (saving it on the hard drive), and entering the suitable data (ordinal number, registration number, white list label label (1) or black list label (0). In the autonomic mode the list can have up to 2048 rows.
To interrelate the detection of some license plate and the state of the alarm output of the camera, the user has to log on to the camera, enter Advanced Configuration -> Alarm Output menu and configure alarm output schedule. The alarm output can be triggered by recognition of a license plate from the white or black list. Additionally, the picture of any vehicle in the field of view of the camera can be saved on an ftp server, independently whether its license plate has been listed or not. A concept of entrance/exit control system with the use of two cameras and boom barriers is shown below.
IP Camera: Hikvision Lightfighter DS-2CD4A25FWD-IZS (2MP, MOTOZOOM 2.8-12mm, 0.005 lx, IR up to 30m, WDR (140dB), IP67, PoE)IP Camera: Hikvision Lightfighter DS-2CD4A25FWD-IZS (2MP, MOTOZOOM 2.8-12mm, 0.005 lx, IR up to 30m, WDR (140dB), IP67, PoE)
Such a simple system with autonomic cameras can be sufficient e.g. at a housing development. Additional functionality can be provided after connecting the cameras to a Hikvision NVR supporting the LPR function. The NVR stores previously imported lists of "white" and "black" car plates (allowed / prohibited) and the recordings of the cars emerging in the field of view of the camera, which can be quickly searched by the license numbers. Depending on which list there is the license plate of the approaching car, the assigned alarm events will control the state of alarm outputs available in the system. For example, if the car is on the "white" list, the signal from the alarm output will open the entrance gate, whereas if the license of the car is contained in the "black" list, the system will alert the security guard.

Distribution of DVB-T channels as IPTV streaming.

IPTV is the most commonly used name of the systems of distribution of TV signals and video files in IP networks. IPTV is based on video streaming and is a method of delivering television content which, instead of the traditional distribution ways based on coaxial cables, employs the transmission technology used in computer networks.
DIPOL has recently introduced DVB-T/T2/C to IP streamer TERRA sti440 R81606 allowing for selection of four multiplexes (with unencrypted channels) from terrestrial (DVB-T/T2) and cable TV (DVB-C) platforms and their distribution via Ethernet (LAN) network based on twisted-pair cabling. The effective throughput of the output IP stream can reach 200 Mbps.

Best cable for LTE antennas.

Wireless network signal strength depends on many factors. One of them is the type and length of the cable connecting the antenna to the modem. To ensure low signal loss, a good choice is to use a cable with low attenuation.
A perfect choice is the Tri-Lan 240 E1171 coaxial cable, featuring:
  • low loss (20% lower than in the case of popular H-155 cable),
  • excellent impedance matching,
  • high screening efficiency (90 dB at 2.4 GHz),
  • resistance to UV radiation thanks to PE jacket made of Borealis LE 8707 material, which allows for outdoor applications.

The important elements of any RF cable links are also RF connectors. One should pay attention to the frequency operation range, loss and impedance matching of the connectors. DIPOL offers high quality RF connectors operating up to 6 GHz. The dimensions of the connectors are ideally suited for the Tri-Lan 240 cable.

PC and APC connectors - are they exchangeable?

Optical connectors are available in two versions, (U)PC and APC. UPC means Ultra Physical Contact, APC is the short for Angled Physical Contact. The difference consists in the polishing of the fiber end face. The end face in a UPC connector is flat, in an APC it is polished at an angle of 8 degrees. The fiber end faces polished at that angle prevent reflection of light from the interface between them, ensuring very low back reflection.
The selection of the suitable connector is easier thanks to different colors of the UPC and APC versions
There are several reasons why UPC and APC connectors should not be mixed :
  • much greater attenuation of such connection - when the flat ferrule contacts the angled ferrule they are not adjacent to each other over the entire surface - the free space (air) critically affects the level of the transmitted signal,
  • risk of contamination - the above-mentioned free space is a potential place for accumulation of dust,
  • risk of damage to the connector - when the angled ferrule touches the flat end face of the (U)PC ferrule there is the risk of scratching the flat face; the problem is particularly important in the case of any connecting/disconnecting operations.

TV Optical Transmitter TERRA OT501W (SAT/DVB-T, 6dBm)
TV Optical Transmitter TERRA OT501W (SAT/DVB-T, 6dBm) A9872 is used for transmission of television signals via optical medium. It converts input satellite signals from a quatro LNB, and DTT (DVB-T) and radio (DAB and FM) signals (the terrestrial signals have to be combined by a triplexer) from a set of terrestrial antennas. The built-in WDM multiplexer transmits the two groups of signals separately, in the II transmission window (1310 nm) and III transmission window (1550 nm), which guarantees exceptional quality of the transmission.
