Data stored in glass.

The collection and storage of huge amounts of information must be 100 percent reliable. Photos, videos and documents stored on conventional DVDs can be completely lost after 25 years. Traditional memory sticks that are used only once to write the data can store it a little longer, but still no one can rely on them 100%.
A successor of the media can be 5D glass disc. The first mention of the 5D discs already appeared in 2013, when the size of the recorded text file was only 300 kb. The researchers at the Optoelectronics Research Centre at Southampton University have recently developed a new 5D disc, brought to the stage where it can be presented outside laboratories, also to industry partners that could be interested in commercializing this project.

The new optical medium is a 2.5 cm disc made of nano-structured glass. The data is recorded inside the disc with femtosecond (1E-15 s) laser pulses. The glass can withstand temperatures up to 1000 degrees Celsius, and the medium stored at room temperature has virtually infinite durability.
The write and read operations are much more complicated than in the case of CD or DVD discs with two-dimensional structures on one of the flat surfaces, in the form of pits (binary value of 0 due to lack of reflection when read by a laser beam) and lands (binary value of 1 due to a reflection when read by a laser beam). In the 5D disc, the refracted light is a combination of information (size, orientation and position in three axes: X, Y, Z). Thus the 5D name, referring to the five "dimensions". The capacity of such discs can be up to 360 TB!

IP cameras powered with PoE from the NVR - the simplest solution.

The most convenient way to connect IP cameras into a video surveillance system is the use of PoE technology. It considerably simplifies the installation process (the same cable for transmission of power and data). Hikvision provides NVRs with built-in PoE switches. This solution is best suited for small systems with simple architecture. The biggest advantages are:
  • simple installation,
  • one cable to each camera,
  • automated configuration of Hikvision cameras in the IP network ("Plug and Play"),
  • direct camera links up to 100 m.

The cameras are powered directly from the PoE switch built into the K22042 NVR.
The cameras connected to the PoE NVR create an internal, isolated network. The Hikvision NVRs have a special feature called Virtual Host, enabling direct connection between a camera and another network device. The NVR becomes a kind of network node, and the user gains access to both the live image from the camera, as well as to its configuration options. Hikvision engineers have set up a two-step access to the configuration options of IP cameras with PoE NVRs: the end-user runs Plug and Play setup with recording and basic functions, the installer and/or administrator can connect themselves to the camera via Virtual Host to gain access to advanced features.

Configuration of saving path in Hikvision iVMS 4200 app.

The operator of the system can manually save video footage, screenshots, configuration files etc on a local PC. To configure the saving paths, the operator should perform the following steps:
  • launch the iVMS 4200 application and enter "System Configuration" menu,
  • click on the "File" button,
  • click on the browse button and select a local path for saving the files of this type,
  • change the default paths for saving video files, images, and configuration files,
  • save the changes.

Compressing F connectors on TRISET-11 cable.

Installers of large SMATV or cable TV systems well know the problems with terminating thick coaxial cables (diameters above 10 mm, such as TRISET-11 PE E1025) with F connectors. Due to a dense braid, the installation of connectors with inner tubes was cumbersome and required the use of considerable force. The application of the renowned MASTER E80362 connectors eliminates the problem, guaranteeing an easy installation. The first step is to strip the jacket with MASTER insulation stripper E8010. After putting on the connector on the cable end, the next and final step is performed with the use of the all-in-one compression tool MASTER E80075. All the operations take only ten or so seconds.

The perfect design and excellent precision of MASTER connectors make them very popular among installers. Compression connectors ensure high mechanical strength, integrity and stability over time.

RF connectors for cellular and 5 GHz networks.

DIPOL offers RF connectors designed for operation up to 6 GHz, dedicated for installation on Tri-Lan 240 E1171 cable. The main parameters important for smooth RF signal transmission via cable connections include:
  • Voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) that determines how much energy of the incident signal is reflected back to the transmitter. Typical values should not exceed 1.5, which is the equivalent to the reflection of ca. 4% signal power. The offered connectors have WFS = 1.3.
  • Impedance matching, measured in decibels, which decides how much of the signal power is transmitted by the connector-cable set. The greater its value, the better transmission quality. It should be not lower than 15 dB. In the case of using the connectors with Tri-Lan cable, the value is at least 18 dB.
N-plug for Tri-Lan 240/H-155 cable (6 GHz)
N-plug for Tri-Lan 240/H-155 cable (6 GHz) E84130
The connectors of this series are used both in installations operating in GSM, 3G, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. This range of connectors fills the gap between cheap, low quality no-name products and very expensive ones from the top manufacturers.

  • N male connector up to 6 GHz for Tri-Lan 240/H-155 cable - E84130,
  • N female connector up to 6 GHz for Tri-Lan 240/H-155 cable - E84135,
  • SMA/RP male connector up to 6 GHz for Tri-Lan 240/H-155 cable - E84150,
  • SMA/RP female connector up to 6 GHz for Tri-Lan 240/H-155 cable - E84155.

Ultimode quick assembly connectors.

ULTIMODE ILB-2SM-A L7102 duplex cable composed of two single-mode 250 μm G.657A2 fibers is one of the most popular FTTH cables on the market. The popularity of the indoor cable is the result of low price, high mechanical resistance, and a special construction with rectangular cross-section of the jacket plus built-in FRP reinforcing rods naturally limiting the bending capability in one plane to a safe bending radius range.
Quick Assembly Connector ULTIMODE FAST-02SC L5711 on Ultimode L7102 cable
The cable can be terminated with pigtails connected via mechanical splices (e.g. ULTIMODE L5550), fusion splices (made e.g. with EasySplicer L5810), or using quick assembly connectors ULTIMODE L5711 or L5712. The latter option is possible thanks to small dimensions of the cable, ideally suited to the size of the connectors. The convenient and cheap solution can be recommended for LAN and CCTV systems based on optical fibers. It can also be used in the interim period during the installation process of FTTH systems, before performing final fusion splices.

DVB-S/S2 (8PSK, QPSK) - DVB-T (COFDM) Transmodulator TERRA TDX410C
DVB-S/S2 (8PSK, QPSK) - DVB-T (COFDM) Transmodulator TERRA TDX410C R81617 is used for reception of DVB-S/S2 (8PSK/QPSK) signals, selection of desired channels from a transponder, and retransmission of them in COFDM format in chosen channel in VHF/UHF frequency range. Built-in CI interface for conditional access modules enables the transmodulator to operate with scrambled services. In multiplexing mode, one panel receives a whole multiplex (up to 10 or so channels) and converts it to DVB-T multiplex with up to 5 services (max 31 PIDs) with max throughput of 31.66 Mbps. When a higher throughput is required, the system will need next TDX-410C R81617 module(s). The output DVB-T COFDM multiplex is usually distributed to users by a passive network composed of RF splitters/taps. Such a solution is especially convenient in modern hotel TV systems distributing a variety of satellite channels, including HD broadcasts.
