Invisible data in visible light.

Researches from Dartmouth College test the first "smart spaces", i.e. rooms enabling wireless data transmission via visible light. Although this transmission technique is known for many years, there have been problems with its efficient use and practical implementations.
One of the problems in the high-tech field of visible light communication (VLC) is the fact that the transmission conditions are very changeable - the light can be blocked by moving people, has different intensity around the room, including deep shadows, may mix with daylight or light from other sources etc. The American scientists have developed a system capable of continuous analysis of the changes in light intensity and the shaded places in the room. Based on this analysis, they are able to control LED lamps so that to ensure effective transmission to the devices located in the room, as well as sense and infer gestures of the users.
The "smart spaces" are created by LED lamps on the ceiling, with light modulated thanks to PLC function (Power Line Communication - data transmission via power network) and light sensors deployed on the floor. The light emitted by the LED is used as a transmission medium for providing information to the devices in the room, such as mobile phones, smart watches or other devices requiring network access. The light sensors on the floor collect and transmit information on the changes of light intensity in the different areas of the room.
One may ask, what are all the efforts for? Is it not enough to use popular WLAN solutions?
With the growing number of wearable devices, the problem of limited Wi-Fi spectrum becomes more and more severe. In the case of LED lamps, the issue of the spectrum crunch does not exist, and the data transmission rates can reach 500 Mbps. It can be a fully satisfactory solution for rooms in buildings. Additionally, the researches propose "integrated Visible Light Communication (iVLC) system, which combines scalable VLC networking and accurate VLC sensing of mobile users".

F connectors in TV antenna systems.

F-type connectors are used for making connections in antenna systems based on coaxial cables with 75 Ω impedance. These are usually terrestrial TV, SAT TV, and CATV installations, and sometimes CCTV systems. Their design and quality have a direct impact on the stability and parameters of the connections - signal loss and impedance matching. There are several types:
  • twist-on F connectors - are cheap and no special tools are needed for the installation (at the expense of a longer time); the connections are not so reliable as in the case of compression connectors;
  • conical compression connectors - ensure more reliable connections, must be compressed with dedicated tool;
  • "Self-Install" compression connectors - they combine high reliability and ease of use. No special tools are needed. They are perfect for people who occasionally install small systems. Installed properly, they are fully integrated with the cable;
  • professional compression connectors - top quality compression connectors of MASTER and Platinum brands guarantee reliable long-term operation in any environment. The prices are very competitive, the installation with the use of suitable compression tool is very simple and quick. They are especially dedicated for installation companies that install medium- and large-size SMATV and CATV systems.

Which antenna for LTE?

Network access services provided by cellular operators are increasingly more popular among Internet users. The growing popularity of the services is due to lower prices and higher data transmission speeds. The leader is LTE (Long Term Evolution), currently the most efficient data transmission technology in cellular networks, with speeds comparable to wired services.
When selecting an external antenna, the user of a modem should make sure whether the device supports MIMO technology (has two antenna connectors). If so, it is necessary to use an antenna that also supports this standard. It is a simple way to achieve the maximum throughput.

HD-TVI - a new quality of CCTV.

High Definition Transport Video Interface (HD-TVI) is a revolutionary technology that allows users to send uncompressed, high-resolution video (currently up to 1080p) over coaxial or twisted-pair cables (using dedicated baluns). The transmitted video signal is in analog form, with bandwidth much greater than in the case of CVBS (SD). As the signal is not compressed, the picture is more natural during live viewing. There is no delay and the configuration of such a system is easier compared to IP CCTV solutions.
Turbo HD is the trade name of HD-TVI products manufactured by Hikvision.
The Turbo HD products are compatible with any HD-TVI devices.
The main advantages of HD-TVI (Turbo HD) systems:
  • lack of time delays characteristic for IP systems,
  • much easier configuration compared to systems based on IP protocol,
  • two-way communication - access to the OSD of a camera and control of PTZ cameras directly from the DVR, via the signal cable,
  • high resistance to electromagnetic interference, through the use of synchronous amplitude modulation QAM and separation of luminance and chrominance signals,
  • popularity of hybrid DVRs supporting HD-TVI, CVBS and IP cameras,
  • possibility of using long transmission lines, up to 300 m ( RG59 cable) or up to 500 m (RG6 cable).
The Turbo HD devices make a very attractive offer for all who want modernize their analog video surveillance systems. With video parameters comparable to more expensive IP CCTV solutions, the implementation of a HD-TVI system is much simpler (the same cabling, no need for complicated configuration).

IP CCTV system on a housing development in Krakow.

Housing association on a housing development in Krakow hired the GKJ-SYSTEM company to design and implement IP CCTV system. After analyzing the requirements of the investor and taking into account the available budget, they chose one of IP CCTV solutions offered by DIPOL. The system has been based on compact outdoor cameras Signal HDC-210P K1815 and indoor cameras Signal HDV-180 K1869. The IP CCTV system is powered by UPS. The LAN network uses NETSET cat. 5e E1408 cable. All the cables concentrate in the SIGNAL R912022 RACK cabinet. The HDC-110P cameras are powered from TP-LINK TL-SG3424P N29961 PoE switch. The HDV-180 cameras are powered from the N9207 PoE adapter.

Breakout units for easy access cables.

Easy access cable is a solution that specifically facilitates the distribution of fibers in multistory buildings such as offices and multifamily houses. Thanks to the unique design of the cables, the individual fibers are easily accessible and can be pulled out from the breakout windows to lengths up to 30 meters. In addition to saving space in vertical cable shafts, the application of easy access cables definitely reduces the installation time compared to conventional installations based on star topology where separate optical fibers go from server/technical room to users' outlets.

The elements necessary for deployment of systems based on easy access cables are dedicated breakout units. They provide adequate protection for the breakout windows cut in the cable tubes, shelter the pulled out fibers and keep them in proper position with permissible bending radius. Finally, they are used to attach the cables to the building structure.
The optical fibers run between the distribution points (breakout units L5351 for four fibers or distribution boxes L5352 for six fibers) and the premises of the subscribers, are to be protected by drop/distribution tube VC-TUB L7211. When a window is cut out, but currently no fiber is led out, the suitable protection for the cable is provided by VertiCasa cover L5350.

Damage to wires in alarm systems. Wherever possible, the cabling of an alarm system should be installed on the stage of construction of the building, before plastering. The recommendation is important both due to aesthetic and safety reasons (hiding the cables from the reach of potential intruders). Other components of the alarm system (such as the G2045 intruder alarm control panel, G3216 motion detectors, G2152 keypads) are usually installed after the completion of the construction work inside the building, in the previously planned and prepared locations... more
