Samsung looks into the future - WiFi 802.11ad just around the corner...
Samsung has developed practical solutions for the use of Wi-Fi 802.11ad standard and is prepared for launching a wide range of products employing these solutions. The new technology will bring huge increase in data transfer rates. Operating in the 60 GHz band, the solutions implemented by Samsung offer data transfer speeds at the level of 4.6 Gbps (575 MB/s). This is five times better result compared to those of the newest and quickest WiFi chipsets implementing the 802.11ac specification. As a result, the transfer of an 1 GB video file between two devices will take less than three seconds, and the devices can stream HD video in real time, without any buffering.Until recently, a commercial use of the 60 GHz band has been associated with serious problems. Millimeter waves poorly penetrate physical objects and are very susceptible to attenuation that reduces signal strength and the efficiency of data transmission. However, Chang Yong Kim, the Head of DMC R & D Center, Samsung Electronics, maintains that "Samsung has successfully overcome the barriers to the commercialization of 60 GHz millimeter-wave band Wi-Fi technology, and looks forward to commercializing this breakthrough technology". The results have been possible by combining sophisticated millimeter-wave circuit design, high performance modem technologies and newly developed wide-coverage beam-forming antennas.

Additionally, Samsung improved the overall signal quality by developing the world’s first micro beam-forming control technology that optimizes the communications module in less than 0.33 millisecond in the case of any changes in the communications environment. The company also developed the world’s first method allowing multiple devices to connect simultaneously to a network. According to representatives of the South Korean electronics giant, first devices compatible with this standard will be launched on the market early next year.
Signal DVB-T modulators - a broader offer.
Digital DVB-T modulators ensure optimal solutions for distribution of digital video signals in hospitals, hotels, supermarkets, shopping malls, electronics stores etc., where the content from one or two sources has to be distributed to multiple televisions/monitors. The devices can also inject video from security cameras into shared antenna systems. In this case, the Signal modulators usually distribute in digital form the video signal from the output of a DVR/NVR (it can be composed from even 16 sub-images from individual cameras) and this way they integrate CCTV networks with antenna systems, providing the surveillance video to the TV outlets of the users. DIPOL has introduced two new models of DVB-T modulators, Signal-352 R86352 and Signal-400 R86700.![]() | ![]() | ![]()

Signal-400 R86700 provides an excellent alternative for HDMI splitters and multiple HDMI cables. Thanks to RF loop, the converted HDMI signal can be combined with other TV signals, from an antenna system or other modulators. The input HDMI signal can come from a media player, DVD/Blu-ray player, PC, STB, DVR etc. So, the modulator can distribute high quality audio-video content in DVB-T standard to multiple televisions/monitors via coaxial cabling in antenna and CCTV systems.
Signal-352 R86352 DVB-T modulator converts signals from two analog sources provided via RCA inputs (video composite signals), S-Video inputs, or RCA inputs of component video signals. Additionally, each path has two RCA inputs for the left and right audio channel. The device multiplexes the audio-video signals from both paths, creating one RF multiplex with two DVB-T channels.
How to improve GSM signal in a singe-family home?
It often happens that phone conversations via mobile phones inside the house are difficult or even impossible - due to low quality, interruptions or connection losses. The problems are caused by the attenuation of cellular signals by walls, windows, and ceilings (especially in the case of basements, cellars, garages). The signal strength can be increased by the use of a GSM amplifier/repeater, which will improve the cellular connectivity, including access to the Internet (GPRS).
The installation in the diagram above employs the following devices:
- Trans-Data GSM/DCS/UMTS antenna KYZ8.2/9.5 A741030. The antenna ensures communication with a cellular base station.
- GSM Amplifier/Repeater SIGNAL GSM-305 A6765. The device amplifies GSM (EGSM) signals, incoming/outgoing from/to the base station.
- Two-way GSM splitter A6812. It distributes GSM signals between two indoor GSM antennas.
- Indoor antennas: Trans-Data GSM/DCS/UMTS DW3-A A741001 and Trans-Data GSM/DCS/UMTS DW3-B A741002. The antennas placed inside the house distribute the amplified incoming signals and receive the signals from cellular phones or modems. The A741001 antenna ensures easy fixing to plasterboard or other suspended ceilings, whereas the A741002 model is designed for mounting on concrete ceilings, with surface-mount cable.
The issue of compatibility between network switches and SFP modules.
The selection of an appropriate SFP module for a given switch determines the proper operation of the installation. If the SFP port of a switch or media converter is marked as "Gigabit", "GbE", "1000 Mb/s", "1 Gbps" etc, the only choice should be a gigabit SFP module, otherwise there can be compatibility problems; when the SFP port is marked "10/100/1000 Mb/s" etc, the choice is broader, according to the needs. The table below will help to check the compatibility of an SFP module with a switch.SFP module
1000 Mbit/s (GbEth) | 100 Mbpss (FEth)
Switch | ULTIPOWER | + | - |
TP-Link TL-SG2xxx | + | + | |
TP-Link TL-SLxxxx | + | - | |
TP-Link TL-SG3xxx | + | - * | |
TP-Link TL-SG5xxx | + | - |

The ULTIMODE SFP-203/5G SC L1416 module can transmit data via a single-mode fiber at rates up to 1.25 Gbps,
over distances up to 20 kilometers
over distances up to 20 kilometers
Despite the same standard, it happens that SFP modules from some manufactures have compatibility problems with switches from other producers. Ultimode SFP modules are compatible with Ultipower and TP-LINK switches.
iVMS-4500 - mobile app for Hikvision NVRs/DVRs.
The iVMS-4500 app is dedicated for use on mobile phones running Android OS ver. 2.3.3 or higher. It can be used for remote viewing of live or recorded video from NVRs, DVRs, or IP cameras, via Wi-Fi, 2G or 3G networks. The application can manage up to 16 devices and provide images from 1 to 4 cameras simultaneously. The software can be downloaded for free from the Google Play store. To get connection to a DVR/NVR, the user has to enter appropriate parameters, i.e. the IP adresses of the DVR/NVR, communication port, user name and password. In the case of using an external network, the communication port of the router (8000 by default) has to be forwarded.
Additionally, depending on needs, the user may configure a number of parameters:
- stream type
- main
- sub
- resolution
- 4CIF 704x576
- VGA 640x480
- CIF 352x288
- QVGA 320x240
- frame rate (up to 30 fps)
- bitrate: 32...8192 kbps
Recording of video from IP cameras on FTP servers.
IP cameras and NVRs can upload screenshots (Hikvision) or video files (Signal, Sunell) directly to FTP servers. The screenshots can be taken at specific time intervals (e.g. every second), so that they can be embedded into websites offering live images. The recording of surveillance video on an FTP server can also be triggered by alarm events, such as motion in the detection area. The configuration of recording on FTP servers is similar for products coming from different manufacturers. The simplest and effective way of the configuration has been implemented in Hikvision cameras.
