PrintScreen - production of displays as simple as taking screenshots.
The participants of the annual ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology are mainly focused on human interaction with electronic devices. The attention of the participants of the latest, 27th meeting, was especially attracted by the solution for printing... touch screens. The PrintScreen concept, developed by Simon Olberdingam, Michael Wessely and Jürgen Steimle, allows for the creation of thin displays that can be placed on almost any material: paper, wood, stone, metal, and even the leaves of plants and human skin. What's more, they can have virtually any size and resolution adapted to the needs. The screens can be flexible, tactile, and even double-sided. In order to "fabricate" this type of displays, it is enough to use... a home printer.
The "printed screen" is based on well known Thin-Film Electroluminescent (TFEL) technology and is composed of four layers: silver conductor, insulating layer, phosphor layer and transparent conductor. After applying high AC voltage to the conducting layers, the phosphor layer emits light.
The authors presented a few examples of the use of their solutions. Without a doubt, taking into account the simplicity of production and low price of such screens, their system can be used in a huge number of applications.
The winners of the 13th DIPOL's holiday photo contest.
We thank all participants for taking part in our annual contest. The event is year-on-year becoming more popular. This year the number of the works was again record-breaking (330 photos). The entries depict both the antennas in the neighborhoods of the authors and those that are rarely spotted by people. The jury has also noticed that many titles of the works are not only "captions", but have deeper meanings. Below there is a list of the winning (3) and honored (13) images and their authors:- 1st place - Pawel Adamek for the work "Keep in touch".
- 2nd place (Technical Department award) - Dominika Wilk for the picture "A supporting one".
- 3rd place (Technical Department award) - Andrzej Karpinski for the photo "My antenna on the stand in a Portuguese sunset".
The award is also the TP-Link TL-WA701ND Access Point.
- Distinctions: Joanna Kupiś, Joanna Motylska-Komsta, Michał Jung, Wojtek Owczarek, Janusz Bochenek, Jakub Skiba, Tomasz Okoniewski, Agnieszka Pruchnik, Wojciech Domagała, Aleksander Bartel, Paweł Florczyk, Sylwia Duraj, Aneta Synecka
The honored authors will receive DIPOL Magic Mugs.

Transmission of multimedia content to several receivers via LAN.
Signal-HD HDMI to IP converter enables the user to connect remote (up to 100 m) source of HD content to HD-enabled television/monitor, using one CAT5e/6 cable. The set includes transmitter and receiver units, as well as remote control extender for a Blu-ray/DVD player, STB etc. (the commands are transmitted over the same cable). As mentioned, the set consists of the transmitter and receiver. However, the user can buy additional H3607 receivers and connect the corresponding number of televisions/monitors. The IP signal coming from the transmitter may be applied to an Ethernet switch to split it among the multiple receivers. The bit rate of the compressed signal at the output of the transmitter is about 30 Mbps.

Distribution of DVB-T signals via optical fibers.
Many installers of antenna systems do not consider optical fibers as an alternative to copper cables, based on a conviction that optical solutions are expensive and difficult to install. They do not use fiber optics even in situations where the advantages of the transmission medium are quite obvious. The capability of transmission over long distances and the lack of overvoltages are the main benefits of using optical fibers in larger TV distribution systems. The following diagram shows the idea of distributing digital DVB-T signals in a shared antenna system, based on TERRA solutions.

The DVB-T broadcasts are received by the A2670 antenna and provided to the Terra at440 R82511 highly-selective four-channel amplifier. Additionally, the Signal-350 R86350 DVB-T modulator injects video from the M11284 security camera. All the signals are supplied to the input of the TERRA mo418 4D31 R82522 TV optical transmitter.
The composite optical signal from the output of the R82522 transmitter, at the power level of 6 dBm, is provided to the Terra so414 (1x4) R82527 optical splitter dividing it into four optical paths. The four optical links (single-mode fibers) are led to four buildings. The lengths of the links can be measured even in kilometers (the maximum range is 12 km). The optical transmitter, splitter and DIN Rail Power Supply DR-60-12 R82532 are mounted on the R82538 DIN rail.
In each of the four buildings there is the TERRA OD-002 R81726 optical node. The maximum RF output level of 106 dBµV is sufficient for distribution of the signal to tens of R62200 outlets, using only passive distribution network.

Installation of distribution frames/boxes in FTTH systems based on easy access cables.
The installation of an optical distribution frame or box in such a system can take a considerable amount of time due to large number of splices. The work can be done faster with the use of dedicated accessories. One of them is the L3560 single-mode pigtail set with 12 pigtails with 2 meter long fibers in different colors, terminated with SC/APC connectors. An example of using the pigtails in the L5224 optical box. The standardized colors of the fibers correspond with those used in all fiber optic cables. This greatly facilitates the identification of the fibers and the process of splicing.
CCTV in a hotel.
In order to improve the safety of visitors and protect the property, the owner of the newly renovated hotel "Anna" in Tarnobrzeg, Poland, decided to equip it with a video surveillance system. The system has been installed by DIPOL Sandomierz. After the analysis of the facility and potential dangers, the company installed a total of 17 n-cam and Sunell cameras. The n-cam M11271 and Sunell M11271 / M11286 cameras have been installed on the outside of the hotel. Their IP66-rated housings protect the electronics from harsh weather conditions. With high resolution, the cameras provide detailed images. At night, they use the built-in IR illuminators.
The video from the cameras is recorded by the HIKVISION DS-7216HWI-SH/A M72816 DWR. Thanks to WD1 recording resolution (960x576 pixels, the maximum in the case of analog video), the DVR allows for recording the video without a loss of detail.
Digital Satellite Meter TRIMAX TM-8500 HD (DVB-S/S2) R10831 allows for quick setup of satellite dishes. The device is equipped with a clear 2.1" TFT LCD display. Navigation is done using a small keyboard with keys covered with rubber. Clear menu of the device will surely facilitate the work of every installer. |
8-core Signal Cable: YTDY 8X0.5 J8608_100 consists of 8 wires with copper cores of 0.5 mm diameter. The cable is designed for use in alarm and intercom systems.. |
Wireless RGB LED Controller Exta Free RDP-11 F5431 is designed for control of LED light sources powered with 10-14 VDC voltage, composed of RGB LEDs. The control can be performed remotely by dedicated controls/transmitters of the EXTA FREE system and can include adjustment of color, intensity, lighting effects. |
