The DIPOL's success at SatKrak 2011.
This year's satellite and digital TV trade fair SatKrak in Krakow ended on last Saturday, October 15. DIPOL thanks to everyone who visited our booth and participated in professional courses conducted by our engineers. We are pleased to announce that we won the award for Best Component of SMATV System. The winner is TERRA MMH-3000+ headend.
The likeable DIPOL Singing Robot was a great attraction at the exhibition.
The 802.11ac standard, using 5 GHz band, is the successor of 802.11n (ratified in September 2009). It will also involve application of multiple antennas (MIMO technology - Multiple Input Multiple Output). The channel widths will be 20, 40, 80 or even 160 MHz.
The leading RF chipset producers: Atheros, Qualcomm, Intel, Texas Instruments, Broadcom declared that they will introduce the new models soon, to allow consumer device manufacturers to implement the new standard on the market.
The current devices can transmit data at speeds up to 450 Mb/s.
The new, 802.11ac standard will allow for 1 Gb/s.
The new, 802.11ac standard will allow for 1 Gb/s.
Device manufacturers are convinced that the new standard will be a success comparable to that of 802.11n. The driving force behind the development of wireless transmission means is the constant pressure of users to increase throughput. It arises from the growing volume of multimedia content, especially video, transmitted over the network.
It should be noted that devices based on 802.11n supplanted the older ones working in 802.11g due to threefold increase in speed (up to 150 Mb/s using only one transmission path). The chance for quick implementation of the new standard on the market in a short time is good, since the history of the 802.11n standard was a good lesson for everyone: research institutes, manufacturing companies, and standardization bodies. From the chaos that took place during its introduction, everyone reached the conclusion that the most important goal is fast and successful product launch, because only then the expenditure pays for itself.

It is worth recalling that the first 802.11 wireless standard offered transmission speed of 1 Mb/s and 2 Mb/s, the next 802.11b - of 11 Mb/s, whereas the currently most popular 802.11n has a theoretical speed limit of 600 Mb/s. The new standard will provide gigabit speed.
Cheap and effective hybrid CCTV systems.
Hybrid solutions - combinations of analog CCTV cameras and IP megapixel ones - emerged to meet the needs of the market. They combine the advantages of analog video monitoring systems (popular and cheap cameras, typical installations, local recording) and IP CCTV (possibility of using megapixel cameras, remote access through IP networks). Usually the most effective way to modernize an existing analog CCTV system is to implement a hybrid solution. However, in many cases a hybrid CCTV system is the most appropriate solution also for a new installation. The owner/investor should indicate the key and/or most vulnerable areas of the facility (usually the entrances to the buildings and parking lots, counters etc.), which are predisposed to be monitored by megapixel cameras. The rest of the facility can be successfully covered by analog cameras, sufficient for a general observation.
A hybrid monitoring system for a grocery store
HIKVISION provides a range of comprehensive hybrid surveillance systems. A sample solution for a grocery store is shown in the diagram above. The 4-channel DVR DS-7204HVI-ST/E M71041 records 4CIF video at 12 fps (each channel), recording the behavior of people in the store room. The vandal proof cameras v-cam 500 M10772 provide excellent image quality (in 4CIF resolution) thanks to Sony ExView HAD CCD II image sensor and Sony Effio-E DSP processor, as well as high quality AI varifocal lens.
The entrance to the parking lot and the store, as well as the cash desks are monitored by Hikvision IP cameras. The 2MP resolution of the parking camera (Hikvision DS-2CD8253F-E K1450) is suitable for reading the registration numbers of the vehicles. The cash desks and the entrance to the store are monitored by the 2MP cameras Hikvision DS-2CD853F-E K1443 enabling easy identification of people, goods, and banknotes.

The whole system is on a LAN, managed by a PC running free iVMS4000 + NVR Server software. The software allows for control of DVRs and IP cameras, and for recording and playing back the surveillance video. With external IP addresses, the devices are available from anywhere in the world, even via mobile phones. Password protection and hierarchical access rights ensure high security level.
The simplicity and high efficiency of solutions from Hikvision debunks common myths about the lack of compatibility of IP equipment, difficult configuration, the need for expensive managing and recording software.
Antenna system for areas within a 20-40 km distance from the transmitter, with signal distribution to 4 televisions.
The installation uses the directional Yagi antenna A1911 and the amplifier Terra HA-024 R82292 compensating the loss of signal connected with its splitting to several receivers. In the case of low power transmitters or a place on the fringes of the coverage area, a preamplifier should be installed instead of the balun in the antenna box. In this situation the R82292 amplifier should be replaced by Terra HS-013 R82010 with power supply for the preamplifier.Everyone should keep in mind that antenna preamplifiers in such systems must be chosen very carefully, not to overdrive the amplifier. Usually the optimum ones are models with low or medium gain (e.g. LNA series, B4007 and B4008 respectively). The high-gain preamplifier LNA-177 B4009 should be used only in exceptional cases, when the signal level is very low. Generally, application of preamplifiers and/or amplifiers with excessive gain can lead to signal distortion and big problems with reception of any channels.
The DVB-T signal is split by Signal R60104 and distributed to four TV outlets. When a larger number of outlets is needed, there is a whole range of Signal splitters.
Connecting different types of TVs.
- In the diagram above, the both televisions have built-in MPEG-2/ H.264 MPEG-4 tuners, so they are directly conneted to the antenna system.
- The third television is equipped with HDMI input, but it does not have H.264 MPEG-4 tuner indispensable in the location. So, it cooperates with the external DVB-T H.264 MPEG-4 receiver connected via HDMI cable.
- The older, analog TV has been connected to the external DVB-T receiver via its SCART socket.
The both receivers offer the same functionality - beside the reception of DVB-T (MPEG-2/MPEG-4) channels they can record the programs onto external storage devices (flash drive, hard disk - PVR-ready function) and play a wide range of media: pictures, music and movies. The A99250 model is ideal for users having little space for anything else other than the TV, or wishing to hide the receiver behind the TV (the receiver can be inserted directly to the TV SCART socket). The A99252 item is a typical set-top-box equipped with display, for users who prefer more traditional solutions.
Video monitoring system for specialized medical centers.
Hospitals, clinics etc. use specialized equipment to monitor the condition of patients, so it is recommended to avoid wireless transmission means, which generate electromagnetic field. In addition, modern hospital complexes occupy large areas and consist of multiple buildings. Therefore, the distance from the monitoring center to the cameras would far exceed 100 m, regarded as the limit for links based on the twisted pair cable. The best solution is the application of a fiber optic transmission medium, due to its electromagnetic neutrality, high capacity and ability to transmit information over long distances. The special features of easy access cable allow for quick and easy installation. The optical cable can be run from the monitoring center along the corridor/hallway, with branches to the camera points located in rooms. The branches are made just by pulling out the fibers through windows cut in the sheath.
Video surveillance based on fiber optics in a medical facility
Each of the 2MP IP cameras HikVision DS-2CD853F-E K1443 is connected to the system with a separate single-mode fiber taken out of the easy access cable, via ULTIMODE M-207M L11521 Ethernet media converter. The cable with the other ends of all fibers enters the monitoring center, where the appropriate fibers are plugged into ULTIMODE media converters located in the L5215 adapter for 19" rack cabinet. The Ethernet outputs of the converters are connected to NUUO NV-4160S NVR K4116.
Networks based on easy access cable allow for flexible reconfiguration or expansion, just by cutting out windows anywhere in the cable's jacket and pulling out spare fibers to next camera points. It is also important that the monitoring center can be connected via the optical fiber with any other place in the facility for a minimal cost.

Powering cameras with high power consumption over long distances.
The current consumption of compact cameras depends on the type (power) of the on-board infrared illuminators. It typically ranges from about 400 mA to 1A. Box cameras placed in external housings equipped with heaters and fans also require a large current, up to 1A.Assuming that the minimum allowable supply voltage at a camera is 11 V and the camera (e.g. M11275) draws 650 mA, using a 12 V power supply and cable with 0.5 mm2 wires, the maximum distance between the camera and the power source is only 23 m. However, using a special power supply, such as the M18283, which has 6 outputs with a capacity of 1 A, divided into three separate sections (channels) with independent voltage regulation within the range of 12-15 V, we can compensate for voltage drop at the maximum distance increased to 92 m.
Another way to increase the maximum distance is to use a cable with a larger cross section. The change is proportional, so when we power the camera via the M18283 cable with 1 mm2 wires, the distance can reach 184 m.

Remote access to IP CCTV system via mobile phones.
NUUO NVRs from the NVRmini series ( K4108, K4116 ) and the NUUO software packages ( K3104, K3108, K3116, K3132, K3164 ) allow for remote access to the IP CCTV systems from 3G mobile phones and PDAs. This function allows the users or various services to monitor the protected areas at any moment and from any place within the range of 3G network, e.g. in order to oversee emergency actions, identify people etc.The applications installed on mobile phones allow for:
- live monitoring of the cameras,
- capturing screenshots and saving them in the phone's memory,
- performing PTZ control via touch screen or keys,
- remote control of motorized barriers, gates, doors etc. (through alarm interfaces).
NUUO software and applications for mobile phones/PDAs are vailable here. After installing a PDA Client/iViewer, it is necessary to input in the configuration wizard the server name, IP address, port, user name and password to access the server/NVR. From now on, the user can access all the features offered by the applications.
Transmission of high-definition signals from several sources with a single HDMI cable.
Signal-HD HDMI switchers enable the user to connect up to three ( H3131 ) sources of high-definition signals to a modern TV set equipped with HDMI input. The amplified output signal can be transmitted via HDMI 1.3b cable over distance up to 15 m. The choice of the device from which the signal is connected at a moment to the TV is performed with the included remote control. The devices are ideal for connecting satellite receiver, DVD player, PC or game console to a television equipped with a small amount of HDMI inputs. Even when the TV has sufficient number of HDMI inputs, it may be more elegant to connect only one HDMI cable for easy installation on a wall with the use of LCD/plasma mount. It really improves the appearance of the TV suspended on the wall.Application diagram
