Towards the limits of cable capacity - MoCA 2.0.

On June 15, 2010, the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) announced ratification of its own next-generation specification, MoCA 2.0.
This event has driven the U.S. market of complete solutions for the distribution of digital signals in buildings, especially in one-family houses, which will not require the use of new types of cabling (no-new-wires technologies).
In addition to MoCA, the technologies include HomePlug - the distribution of signals over electrical cables, and - approved by the ITU-T in 2009 and winning popularity - G.hn standard describing methods of signal transmission using most types of cabling found in homes (coaxial cables, electrical cables, phone/computer network cables).
Due to the maturity of the MoCA 2.0 standard (the alliance was established in 2004) which is supported by many leading equipment manufacturers, it is expected that it will be implemented even in 90% of U.S. households. This solution is favored by the majority of U.S.cable operators.
Typical configuration of MoCA network integrating multiple services and devices
MoCA is an industry group which develops specifications for home networking over residential coaxial cables.
MoCA enables simultaneous distribution of several HD video streams (including 3D) and other data, such as VoIP streams.

Multimedia over Coax Alliance has ratified the third version of the MoCA standard (after 1.0 and 1.1) which implies the possibility of data transmission rates of 400 or 800 Mbit/s, using 500 MHz to 1650 MHz band.
In the case of point-to-point links the latest standard offers the possibility of transmission rates at the level of 1 Gbit/s. It shows a huge progress compared to the previous version of the standard from 2007 (175 Mbit/s).

The standard, approved by DLNA, has become, together with Ethernet and Wi-Fi, the platform to support the transfer of multimedia content between multimedia devices such as TVs, PCs, game consoles, video cameras.
MOCA has over 50 members worldwide. They include such giants as Cisco, Motorola, Panasonic, Samsung, Intel, LG, DirecTV, Verizon. The standard supported and developed by the members is the only "home" technology combining the three segments of pay TV - cable TV, satellite TV, and IPTV.

The number of TV outlets per home in some European countries
Europe is dominated by coaxial cabling. On the basis of the research carried out by IMS, coaxial cable is and will be the most popular transmission medium for video signals with high data rates. In most European countries the number of homes that are not connected to the source of signal or cable operator by a coaxial cable does not exceed 5%. Nearly 60% of households are equipped with two or more outlets.

HD sets in pubs and clubs - a complete solution based on Signal-HD HDMI equipment.

After the holiday break, most European leagues start the new season, including the Champions League. It is the last moment for the owners of pubs and clubs to enrich their offer with the possibility of watching most interesting games in High Definition version.
We present such a solution implemented in a pub. The owner decided to upgrade the TV system. The installation should distribute HD and SD signals to 5 LCD TVs and an HD projector. The sources of the signal should be a satellite TV receiver (pay-TV digital platform) and a multimedia device (Ferguson Ariva HDplayer 110 - A99391 ).

Diagram of the installation based on HDMI equipment
The installation uses high quality HDMI cables of different lengths (up to 15 meters - H1153). The signals from the two sources are connected to the Signal-HD HDMI Switcher-Splitter 2x4 ( H3324 ). To enable connection of more than four televisions/monitors and the multimedia projector, the switcher cooperates with another splitter - H3214. An important requirement for cascade connection of active devices is that the distance between them does not exceed 5 meters. However, the projector is situated about 25 m away from its source of signal, so it was necessary to use other solution - Signal-HD HDMI extender over CAT5e cable - H3601. The device enables the user to connect remote (up to 50 m) source of HD content to an HD-enabled television/monitor using typical CAT5e/6 cable.
The fans have already watched the first matches. The installation met the expectations of the customers and the owner.

Economical solution for wireless video surveillance.

A perfect solution to the infrastructural problems in large CCTV systems is application of Camsat wireless transmission equipment capable of sending video, sound, and data. In the case of transmitting multiple video channels, the most cost-effective choice is the application of CAM5816 multi-channel receiver ( M1561).
The example of the installation that uses the latest products offered by DIPOL is shown below. It enables wireless transmission of video and audio from four analog cameras, allows to control two PTZ cameras and to record the CCTV footage on the DVR. The images from the cameras can be previewed locally on a high-resolution monitor or remotely via a computer network, using IE browser.

An example of wireless video surveillance system/subsystem
The solution is based on high quality radio transmission equipment. The CAM5816m M1561 Multi-Rx receiver installed by the recorder allows to receive images from four cameras simultaneously. It receives analog signals within band divided into 16 channels, in real time, without any delays. By using precise microwave circuits, the receiver ensures high parameters of video and audio transmission. Additional antenna amplifier increases the range of transmission. The CAM5816m-Tx M1562 transmitters are installed inside the building/s, and the cables are routed to the outside through the walls.
PTZ control signals for the outdoor cameras are transmitted from the DVR with the use CD04 M1570 wireless telemetry modules. The DVR is the central unit of the system - the TREND 250 M72508 model is an eight-channel DVR that provides recording capabilities of 4CIF (704 x 576) images at 6 frames per second (in each channel), using efficient H.264 compression. Its VGA output with maximum resolution of 1920x1080 px (Full HD) can cooperate with LCD or CRT monitors. Additional video output (BNC - CVBS) provides the same information with resolution limited by PAL or NTSC standard. The universal DVR can be used in any monitoring system that requires high-resolution recordings, preview in real time and efficient compression standard.
The cameras in the building - Cam-665 Roto M11252 - are color cameras with integrated IR illuminators. They are well prepared for day (good rendering of colors) and night (IR lighting) observations. The PTZ cameras used outside are speed dome cameras C4399/FCB-EX1010P M12291.

VIDEOPROBKI - website showing current road conditions in Ukraine.

The Videoprobki service provides information about car accidents and traffic, visualized on Google maps. Live video feeds of the main roads are captured by ACTi cameras. The information is utilized by local television stations as well as by car drivers equipped with smartphones - using text messages and MMS service.
The Videoprobki website
The video monitoring system employs 100 ACTi cameras - 10 of them are ACM-1231 K1511, the rest (90) are ACM-1431 K1118. Camera images are displayed on the website using Software Development Kit (SDK) provided by ACTi.

Modern camera functions - Sense-Up.

Sensitivity of a CCTV camera can be significantly enhanced by slow shutter speed. Cameras with Sense-Up function can be used in very low light, which is especially useful when operating at night, for example, at 0.25 lx (light intensity of the full moon in a cloudless sky).
Proper performance of that function depends on the kind of environment and the slow-down factor - e.g. x4 will allow for four times more light than normally gets into the camera. However, with fast moving objects close to the camera, it is not recommended to set this parameter above x8 - it would effect in a blurred image. The highest values (there are cameras with the maximum factor of x512) can be used only for static scenes.
So the Sense-Up function cannot eliminate the need for cameras operating with infrared illuminators. In total darkness or in the case of fast-moving objects they are indispensable.
The effect of Sense-Up function (on the right)
Cameras with Sense-Up technology - M1192 and K1502 - can be used in low-light conditions to read car plates (during a mandatory stop), to recognize faces (access control) etc.

Monitoring of water and wooded areas with the use of ULTIAIR equipment and a cellular network.

In such areas it is difficult to install cable systems. It is much easier to use wireless devices, such as from ULTIAIR family. The simplest IP CCTV system can be based on outdoor 1.3 Mpx cameras from ACTi - ACM-1231 K1511.
These megapixel cameras provide much more detail that standard CCTV devices, so each camera can observe a larger area. More sensitive areas can be patrolled by a PTZ camera, e.g. K1215. The surveillance data is transmitted by ULTIAIR 319KC N2310, installed directly at the camera points. The ULTIAIR 319KC access points transmit the images from the cameras to the surveillance post equipped with the ULTIAIR 417KC N2330 access point.
Since the ULTIAIR devices have the ability to connect a 3G cellular modem (using USB interface), some important information - aside from regular recording on a local server (NVR) - can be transmitted via the cellular network to a control center in any remote location.
