Hyper-tablet - a revolution or another gadget? Until recently, mobile phones and computers were designed to support different needs. Then came palmtops/PDAs which were small computers not so much larger than phones, with some models combining the both functions. Nowadays we have more choices and dilemmas what to take with us to be connected: smartphone, tablet, ultrabook? Simply, phones have become "smarter", PCs have become more compact, and the development of touch-screen technology has brought the popularity of tablets which often, even in offices, are replacing paper. Which platform will eventually dominate the market? Alexander Graham Bell patented telephone in 1876. For over one hundred years, constantly being improved, it has been used for voice calls. Now, for most people phone a synonym for multimedia device. For many, it is the article of first necessity, the constant companion of life.
Today, the devices mentioned above can generally perform the same functions. Since the functional differences are almost imperceptible, so why have all these stuff? Of course, the idea of ​​tablet integrating laptop and smartphone (2010) was a milestone in the field of mobile devices. However, there are companies that want to go ahead and give us something even more satisfying our hunger for communication and Internet.
One of them is an American company IdealFuture. Their prototype device called IF Convertible is to have the most wanted characteristics of its predecessors: full keyboard ensuring comfortable operation, a large touch widescreen display, and ... pocket size.
If convertible by IdealFuture - will it revolutionize mobile market
Chromebooks, network mini-laptops based on Google concept and dedicated for Internet services, did not win the market. The new device will be different - a folding "hyper-tablet" with two touch screens and high computing power. One of the screens can be dismantled. The platform will be equipped with 4 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory. Wireless communication can be maintained via WiFi and LTE/3G. Standard ports will include HDMI and USB, the battery should allow for 18 hours of continuous operation.
Consumer electronics experts share the optimism of the originator - they generally agree that such a product can be enjoyed by many customers. However, the device is currently still only in the prototype phase, raising funds for further development. The sponsor can be anyone making a donation to the project. For at least $799, the donor is to become the owner of one of the first officially produced devices. The estimated shipping date is July 2014. Will IdealFuture keep this term? Will it really revolutionize the market?

The control room is located in other building, 400 meters away. It is equipped with large-screen monitor that simultaneously displays images from all the cameras. The images are transmitted to the room independently from LAN, using optical link, optical media converters Ultimode M-023M L10021, HDMI to IP converter Signal H3604 (the H3604 set includes transmitter and receiver units).
This solution has several advantages: the images are transmitted to the surveillance room regardless of the LAN conditions, there is no risk of video data loss in the event of a server failure, the video stream does not affect the network traffic. Additionally, the surveillance staff do not have to log into the system and cannot make any configuration changes.
Signal DVB-T modulators. The change of broadcasting from analog TV to digital DVB-T also reflects in SMATV/cable distribution systems in homes, hotels etc. The operators, installers and owners take advantage of COFDM modulation. The distribution of digital signals (instead of analog PAL) ensures uniform quality throughout the networks, and above all, the ability to distribute HD video.
DVB-T modulators are popularly used in the following situations:
  • injection of surveillance video from analog CCTV cameras to television distribution systems
  • injection of surveillance video from DVRs (managing analog cameras) or NVRs (managing IP cameras) to television distribution systems
  • displaying commercials on multiple TVs
  • creation of private, hotel, local etc. TV channels
When choosing a DVB-T modulator for some of the applications, the installer/user should decide whether to employ a cheaper one for SD signals, or more advanced device supporting HD standard.
HDMI/USB DVB-T modulator Signal-450 R86740 is ideal for those who want to distribute their channel with commercials. This model has been equipped with USB port allowing for recording the source material in .ts format and playing back the same or other material prepared in this format. The manufacturer provides the suitable software for converting various content such as pictures, music, videos etc. into .ts files. It means that the device can work independently, generating the output DVB-T signal based on the .ts files played back from a USB drive.

Modernization of analog CCTV system in a factory. In order to maintain efficient operation of CCTV systems, the owners need to consistently upgrade them. New devices available in the market provide better picture quality and more cost-effective archiving methods.

Upgrading or changing the existing system, the owners should exchange both the cameras and DVRs. Modern cameras and DVRs can work with image resolution marked as WD1 or 960H (960x576 pixels). Compared to D1 (720x576), WD1 provides 25% more information in widescreen display mode. The WD1 devices are compatible with older equipment, but the effective resolution is limited by the weakest link i.e. by the device with the lowest parameters.

A CCTV system in a factory
The video surveillance system presented in the example above monitors production processes in a factory. The basic requirement of the investor was to create a distributed system where the recordings are stored locally, and the staff working the surveillance room located in the office building have independent access to images from all the cameras. The requirement is fulfilled by the implementation of Hikvsion/Ultimax DVRs and iVMS 4200 free software.
The system consists of Sunell outdoor cameras with mechanical IR filters (ICR). The IRC59/21AKDN M11289 compact cameras are located outside buildings. The cameras have built-in IR illuminators consisting of 25 Super Flux LEDs, which allows for night operation without additional lighting over distances up to 50 meters.
The vandal-proof IRC59/30ALDN M10782 cameras are placed inside buildings. Thanks to high ingress protection level, IP67, they can work in the industrial environment with increased dust levels.
All the cameras feature integrated 2.8-12 mm varifocal lenses that provide much flexibility in setting the optimal field of view for each camera point.
Each building is equipped with Hikvsion/Ultimax DS-7216HVI-SV M72116 DVR. They record images in WD1 resolution, retaining the original resolution of the 650 TVL (700 TVL B/W) video provided by the cameras, which effects in very good quality of the recorded material. All the DVRs are connected to the LAN and managed with the use of the iVMS 4200 free software.
How to display RTSP stream from ULTIMAX/Hikvision DVR using VLC player. Real Time Streaming Protocol is a protocol used for transmission of multimedia data. Thanks to the fact that manufacturers of DVRs, NVRs, IP cameras implement this protocol in their devices, the users can easily capture the video streams and make them available e.g. on websites. RTSP protocol has been implemented in Ultimax/Hikvision DVRs designed for analog CCTV cameras. This way, the user of the DVR can easily capture and display the video from each camera connected to the device.

The video broadcast by RTSP stream can be played with many commonly available applications or plug-ins installed in web browsers. One of the most popular programs is VLC Media Player. To play the stream in the program, the user should select "Open network stream" in VLC command line and enter the following path in the address field:
rtsp://Login:Password@IP Address:Port/Compression/Channel/Stream/av_stream, where:
  • Login (by default): admin
  • Password (by default): 12345
  • IP address - IP address of the DVR
  • Port (by default): 554
  • Compression: h.264 (or: mpeg4)
  • Channel - camera number: ch1, ch2, ch3 etc.
  • Stream: main (or: sub)

October 29, 2013 - designers of telecommunications systems at training course in DIPOL. It was the first of two workshops planned for the fall, entitled "Designing telecommunications systems in buildings under the Regulation of the Minister of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy." The training course gathered many professionals from design offices who had the opportunity to carefully look at the paragraphs of the Polish regulation and interpret them for practical implementations of fiber optic and SMATV systems in buildings.
