M2M - talking machines. M2M (Machine to Machine) technologies are gaining more and more popularity in different areas of life. The ability of devices connected to the network for collecting, processing and exchanging information without human intervention is used in scientific, industrial, commercial and consumer applications. So it was a question of time to see the first implementations of M2M solutions in automotive industry.
Indian company Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles has launched on the market an electric car named Mahindra e2o. To improve the ease of use, the manufacturer implemented some telematic solutions. Transmitting data over a cellular network, the vehicle remains in constant contact with the owner, who, using a smartphone with dedicated application, can open and close the doors and windows, turn on the air conditioning, or read self-diagnosis data.
The car is able to plan its charging schedule, including navigation to the nearest charging point. Unfortunately, at present the route must be traveled by the driver, but taking into account the latest news on self-driving vehicles, it is only a matter of time when the driver is not needed any more...

Due to the low price of about 11,000 USD it will be accessible for many people.
Mobile operators experience the fast growth of the M2M market (50% per annum in India, 25% in the world). They expect huge profits due to the rapid development of telematics devices, especially in industry, logistics, various services. An example is Vodafone, very active in the field of ensuring compatibility of its M2M SIM cards with a wide range of devices from different manufacturers. Big cellular operators in other countries also run dedicated services based on M2M and data processing in the cloud. Some of the services are addressed to individual subscribers.
Fiber in the building - it's easier than you think. For years, structured cabling systems in office and residential buildings have been based on copper technology. Now, for economic and technical reasons (first of all much better transmission capabilities) fiber optic solutions are beginning to replace copper wiring. In many EU countries the use of fiber optics in new buildings is mandatory and regulated by the law. However, the deployment of fiber optic systems is still an unknown territory for many installation companies.
Yet, installation of fiber systems in buildings is quite simple...
An ideal solution is provided by Ultimode Building System. The basis for the system is the range of Ultimode BS easy access cables. The tubes of the cables are not filled with gel and are specially designed for making windows to pull out fibers even to the length of 20 meters, eliminating the necessity of splicing fibers at the beginnings of the branches. There are cables with 24 ( L7824), 36 ( L7836), and 48 ( L7848) fibers. ULTIMODE BS easy access cables are dedicated for fiber optic systems in high-rise buildings and multi-dwelling units. Application of the L7824 distribution cable in a multistory building
The equally important components of fiber optic systems are distribution frames, boxes and accessories. Special designs of the components allow for carrying spare lengths of the fibers, protecting the splices and running the desired number of fibers to the destination points. Among the accessories there are those specially dedicated for the use with the Ultimode BS cables - protection cover L5350, breakout unit L5351, drop/distribution tube L7211.

SMATV system in a building with 90 apartments. Below we present the results of implementing SMATV system in a multistory building in Krakow. The system receives and distributes satellite signals from Hotbird 13.0E and four DVB-T multiplexes (three FTA and one encrypted). The installation and configuration was performed by GKJ SYSTEM company.

The building has two staircases and ten floors, each floor in a staircase has four or five apartments (the total number of apartments/outlets is 90). The layout of the apartments and size of the network were the reason for the use of TERRA MSV multiswitches. The design of the distribution network was created and tested with the use of SatNet software.
The topology of the network is connected with the architecture of building - the best choice is 5-cable bus, split into two subnetworks by the SS-504 R70515 splitter (it gets signals from one antenna set). The signals from a DVB-T antenna array are amplifies and equalized by the WWK-1062 R89862 amplifier.

Every odd floor in each staircase has been equipped with SS-520 R70518 SAT/TV tap and MSV-516 R70716 or MSV-524 R70724 multiswitch. All the multiswitches are powered via signal lines from the SA-501 R70501 amplifier located at the input of the system. It reduces the number of devices and cost of the system.
The cabling uses Triset-113 cables. On the roof it is gel-filled E1017 with PE coating resistant to UV radiation. The connections inside the building are made with the E1015 cable in PVC sheath. High quality Cabelcon E80410 connectors with self-compression feature were easy to install, ensuring long-term reliability. Signal surge protectors R48602 installed at the inputs of the distribution system lower the risks connected with lightning discharges.
The signal levels in the system have been verified with the use of Digiair PRO R10510 (DVB-T) and Satlook Micro HD R10740 (DVB-S/S2) meters.
Which antenna for LTE? LTE (Long Term Evolution) is currently the most efficient data transmission technology in cellular networks. The download speed can reach up to 326 Mbps, upload speed up to 86 Mbps (20 MHz channel, 64QAM modulation and MIMO 4x4).

LTE technology is flexible, both in terms of frequency and width of the transmission channel. Depending on requirements, LTE networks in Europe operate at frequencies from 800 MHz (in rural areas - broader range) to 2.6 GHz (metropolitan areas - better propagation in buildings). It should be noted that LTE uses MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology, which allows the transmission of signals using multiple antennas or antenna arrays.
When selecting an external antenna, the user of a modem should make sure whether the device supports MIMO technology (has two antenna connectors). If so, it is theoretically possible to use two standard antennas, but it would be rather inconvenient adjust them for best results. From a practical point of view, a much better solution would be to use a single array supporting MIMO technology. It is a simple way to achieve the maximum throughput.
The antenna has to be connected to the modem via a suitable antenna connector.

dramatically improves data transfers in low signal conditions
IP CCTV system in an office and service center. In order to ensure the safety of the staff and customers in the newly built Skarabeusz (Scarab) business center in Mielec, the investor decided to equip it with IP video surveillance system. The purpose of the system is to monitor areas around the entrances, corridors, staircases and underground garage. The installation and configuration of the system was undertaken by Czajen company.

The system employs 19 megapixel IP cameras from Sunell, K1691 (outdoor) and K1695 (indoor). The main advantage of these cameras is high image quality, both day and night, thanks to mechanically switching IR filters and IR illuminators with Super Flux LEDs. The cameras are connected into LAN by structural cat. 5e network.

The surveillance data is recorded on NUUO NVR Titan NT-8040(R) K4804. The free client application included with the NVR is sufficient for live monitoring and playing back archives within the whole LAN network and, after connecting it to the Internet, remotely from any place.
Selecting transmission medium in analog CCTV systems. Video and optionally control and audio signals can be transmitted in several ways. The choice of the designer/installer depends on the field of application, size of the system, environment, budget. Below we present the 3 most popular options.
1. Coaxial cable
Advantages:
  • wave impedance compliant with CCTV devices,
  • good quality cables ensure sufficient resistance to electromagnetic interference.
Disadvantages:
  • risk of surge currents induced by lightning storms;
  • comparatively short transmission range with limited possibilities of using amplifiers/repeaters;
  • interference caused by unwanted currents flowing in the cable as the result of potential differences between connected devices; the interference is usually connected with the AC power network and demonstrates on the screen as still or vertically moving horizontal stripes.
2. UTP cable

Transmission of CCTV signals with the use of active baluns and twisted pair cables allows for longer ranges than in the case of coaxial cables (up to 2400 m) and ensures high resistance to electromagnetic interference (symmetrical transmission lines).
Advantages:
  • possibility to transmit several video or other signals via one UTP cable, there is option of power supplying via the same cable;
  • thinner cable;
  • free pairs of the UTP cable can be used for other purposes (phone, Ethernet, alarm system);
  • high resistance to electromagnetic interference;
  • possibility of galvanic isolation between connected devices (depends on the construction of the baluns).
Disadvantages:
  • wave impedance of 100 Ω - necessary baluns at video outputs and inputs
3. Fiber optic cable

Advantages:
  • medium completely insensitive to electromagnetic interference;
  • low loss - very long range of transmission;
  • no currents between connected devices (full galvanic isolation);
  • high durability;
  • very high throughput - possibility of transmitting many signals over the same fiber.
Disadvantages:
  • higher cost, mainly due to the necessity to use optical video converters;
  • limited range of cameras with built-in video converters and much higher prices of such cameras;
  • necessary some experience in fiber-optic technology, basic tools and measurement devices.
